That's true. I'd forgotten about the trancelike state. Vic heard it when he got up at night to go to the bathroom, but from the bathroom, couldn't see who was doing it. I've been on the couch when I heard it, and the couch has a pushbutton to raise or lower the reclining seats, and that makes enough noise to pull the singer out of her trance. We need a quiet way to sneak up on them

Hubby saw Oodles singing, so we know who our singer is, now. Pigloo City is a happy place

My Piggies love cardboard boxes too as does Holly Bunny. The trouble is now the main supermarkets will not let customers take them due to some silly recycling law so he has to go to the smaller shops who very kindly keep them aside. The little monkey gets through a lot as well LOL!

Thank you for these adorable pictures piggles love. Isn't it just lovely when all you see is a little nose?

The girls have been on a mission to move and chew the box until it submits, to what, I'm not sure Anyway, they've started working together on this mission, and while working on it, have started using a much more elaborate language of sounds. We've been turning down the TV volume, and listening to the girls conversations. Hubby never believed that Zippy talked to me, but he did, in his language. He used enough body language for me to understand what his run-together lists of different sounds meant, and now the girls are doing the same thing. Hubby is fascinated by it, as they really do have some very complex groups of sounds. Anyway, it's a lot of fun listening to a series of sounds, then seeing them attack the box a certain way, which was obviously the point to their conversation. The box is putting up a good fight, though, so should be around for a while, yet

Haha! Sounds like they're coordinating efforts to take down the enemy! Mine love boxes too, you really can't beat a box or a paper bag when it comes to guinea pig entertainment!

I wish I knew how to load videos, because that hay is bouncing all over the place. The girls helped me clean Pigloo City, and did their usual celebratory popcorning and running around under the hay. Cleaning day is their favorite day of the week, and they are enjoying it to the fullest. I'll put the cardboard box house back in once they've packed down the hay a bit. For now, they are playing hay monsters under the hay and only sticking their faces out enough to grab treats and disappear back into the hay 🤗

Sounds like fun - that's a jolly good hay pile! I always think it's a good job they get so excited by a cage change as it makes all the labour worthwhile!

When I got the girls, they had a square, wire cage full of hay deep enough for them to hide in it, plus a house. We were so impressed with the fun all the pigs were having in their hay piles, and knew all my former pigs had fabulous times bulldozing hay, pouncing in it, popcorning under it, that we decided to buy bales of hay from local farmers, about $6 a bale, so we could use that as basic bedding. I still have the granulated pellets under the hay, covered by a layer of fiberglass window screen, so cleaning is really easy, and they just love the whole process. I sweep the used hay into a big pile in the center of the cage, and they pounce in it, bulldoze it and run through it. I'd say it's something pigs really love to do I have a piggy toy KJ gave me years ago. It's a plastic egg with a weighted bases that wobbles, and a removable top with holes in it. Put treats inside the top, and let the pigs wonk it all around until the treats fall out. Some have liked it. Some haven't. The girls do short bouts with it, and if a treat falls out into the hay, there's a mad scramble to be the first to dig into the hay to get the treat. It's hilarious That's one of the few store bought toys any of my pigs have ever liked.

I buy in bales too - it's so much nicer than the crud you get from pet shops and certainly a lot cheaper! We don't do it every clean out, but do throw in a whole load every now and then, and it's always one way we mark their birthdays!
I have one of those toys that I used with our foster rabbits (it was a great way to get the chubby ones to work for their daily pellet ration!), but for some reason I've never tried the pigs with it. I think I've still got it, so will have to try them with it sometime.

Since I don't have any Carefresh or fleece bedding, just the granulated pine pellet horse bedding, I only change that about twice a year. The layer of fiberglass screen keeps the majority of debris out of the pellets, which absorb all the odors. So cleaning is more a matter of removing the used hay and poos. It's quick, and would be even quicker, if I didn't play with the girls the whole time I could do the whole cleaning in 5 minutes. I just sweep up the hay and poos into a pile, so the girls can run through it and pounce in it. Then I use a dustpan and brush to sweep it up and dump it in a bucket to go outside to the garden. Then I put in fresh hay, and it's done. The lofts on each end lift up, so it's easy to get a whisk broom under them, and easy to get into the grooves created by the lofts digging into the granulated pellets. So really, the hay is their bedding, and they love it

This is the response every meal, especially once I start prepping food in their bowl. Oodles does her dinner dance standing with her hands on the Plexiglas, while Noodles accompanies her on the cardboard box house 🤗 We get lots of questions about good piggy toys. The pink plastic egg-like toy has a weighted base and a removable top with openings. Remove the top, put pieces of veggie inside, reattach the top, put it in the cage, and let them have a great, and noisy time knocking it all around to get the veggies to fall out 🤗 A Belgian friend sent it to me, so I don't know if they're available in Us stores. Should be available online.

I've never seen a toy like that, but it sounds like a good one!
Cute picture, and a lovely reception for you when you appear with their meal!
I don't think I'll ever be able to look at that side without knowing at least two of mine would be over it in a second, their little brains not thinking about the drop below! Poppy and Cadders are far more sensible and cautious, but having seen Josh jump up onto a footrest and then over to the sofa, and then clearly about to leap a couple of feet back down onto the floor, I know his brain wouldn't compute the drop (and Rocky is never far behind him when they adventure - they'll leap over stuff when they clearly can't see what's at the other side)! I'm not complaining though, I love their numptiness - I just know I need to protect them from themselves too!

I keep my cages elevated slightly on a plastic crate so we're not bending over too much, bu they're still a foot off the floor or so- but both my guys never go beyond standing up at the gate when I deliver snacks. Still, I always keep my eye on them when the gates are open and close them when business is concluded.

Dallas is the only one who ever tried to get out of a cage. He was a jumper but even he didn't try to get over the Plexiglas. Momo kept jumping out of the second level cage at the last house, but I think she was trying to get back with Morty and Mia. Despite Mia literally tossing her over the Plexiglas and out of the cage, she never gave up. I finally caught the girls playing with the toy. They really do enjoy it!

Haha! They want what's inside!
I'd like to pop my Josh in with your girls for a photo as they all look so similar - I don't think they'd take very kindly to him though... If he didn't jump over the side himself, they'd soon flip him out when he became perpetually over-amorous with them!
How do your girls get on these days? Do you still get the odd bit of strumpiness when they're in season (I remember one was stopping the other from passing at some point ages ago) or is all tickety boo these days?
