Definitely part of the fun of cage cleaning I put the bag of hay in the cage, as I use it for bedding. The girls run around it, climb in it, and generally have a great time playing with the hay. I've pulled out clumps of hay with a piggy in it, lol They love it

I am hoping my girls are going to be playful like that Piggles love. They certainly do a lot of running around.

I made this chew toy from a toilet paper roll and some sprigs of dill I cut fromthe garden. I only needed scissors tocut the dill, and something to poke holes in the tp roll. The guinea girls love it I also bought some new fleece. It makes Pigloo City look very happy. I don't think I've bought new fleece since the early 2000s, 2004 maybe, so it's nice to have something cleaner and more colorful. I'm trying to keep them off the screen so I can see how the screen wears, and how the granulated pellets get into the screen. I put an old fleece in the cage, but it wasn't long enough, so they immediately went under it. No way to tell how the screen works when they can't walk on it. They seem to be enjoying the new fleece, though it will be hard to get the hay off it when it's time to wash it. I bought enough to cover the coroplast on the lofts, too. For once, all the parts of the cage match! I'll try to post a picture.

Zoomies in progress. It's been so long since the girls did zoomies, I thought they were getting too old! Temps got down to 30F overnight, so the air is cold and crisp, and the girls did zoomies for about 5 minutes. Then Noodles decided to zoom some more, and Oodles got up on the loft, out of her way They do seem to be more active since returning to their totally cleaned cage. Perhaps being in the small temp cage made them appreciate their big cage more, or not having a winters worth of smells in their cage has renewed their vigor. Either way, they are far more active now, than they've been in a really long time! I also put a small cardboard box in Pigloo City, and they have been hiding in it, tossing it all around the cage, and jumping on it. It's good to see them so active again, after a summer of little activity

I find any changes in the cage make zoomies more likely - it's the excitement of something different, whether it's a smell, a toy or different bedding! It must have been fun to watch the girls gadding about.
It's interesting how temperature can change behaviour. Looks like yours are coming into their favourite season!

They've also started pulling the lofts apart. The lofts are made of two grids, bent and zip tied together. There's a piece of coro over it, and a fleece pad on top of that. It started with them pulling the fleece pad off one of the lofts. I though they were jumping up in such a way that they were kicking it off. No, hubby caught them pulling the fleece off Today they had the fleece and the coro almost off the other loft, and they had pulled the loft out about 3 inches. They are really going to town destroying Pigloo City! They are having fun, though, and are certainly keeping busy. I'm going to swap the fleece pad with the regular fleece I fold around the coro to keep it in place. I will also try to find a way to clip in the lofts, so the girls can't pull them out. Having the plexi, that keeps the cage stuff in the cage, also makes it hard to secure a clip. Spring is in the air!

My babies popcorn a lot and it is just adorable to watch. There are usually a few squeaks though as somebody always gets overexcited.

The girls have stared using all sorts of new sounds for their communications, and it's delightful to listen to them. Zippy was the only pig I've had who had a whole language of sounds. It was much easier to know what Zippy was saying, because he vocalized and used body language so much. With the girls added language, even without body language, it's much easier to tell exactly want they're trying to say. They do a lot of conspiring, to say the least, which is really funny. They'll go into the cardboard box house, or under one of the lofts, and have a long conversation, then pop out and act all innocent while they try to get snacks out of one of us I've always known that the more comfortable piggies get, and the more bonded they are, the more they communicate. Since Zippy talked a blue streak from the moment I got him, and didn't think language was something they developed, but either used or didn't use. Nice surprise

Mine chatter away to which is wonderful to listen Piggles love to but I am a little worried about Pru bullying Demi at the moment. Sometimes Pru will not let her int the igloo and bites her bottom to get her out. There has been no all-out fighting thank goodness just little squabbles but I am keeping my eye on her.

Has Pru drawn any blood on Demi? If so, they probably should spend time away from each other, as Demi just needs so down time when she doesn't have to worry about Pru. Otherwise, Demi should eventually put Pru in her place. It won't stop all of the dominance, but should at least help. Demi can sleep in her pigloo, and leave Pru to her own pigloo. Better to just give in than to push it That's why it's best to have two of everything, food bowl, water bottle, and hidey, so neither can bully the other out of what they really need.

No Piggles darling, is just the odd squeal. If I thought it was serious I would have separated them. Ther are two igloos in there now for them and funnily enough, there never seems to be squabbles over food. It is a race to get it eaten but so far no contretemps. Thanks for your kind advice sweetie.

It's funny how you can have two identical igloos but one will be the one they both want! I've had loads of pigs that will guard the one they want and send the other packing with a peck - especially with girls!
I was watching Rocky eat a bit of cucumber yesterday. There was another one for Josh, but she was still fiercely possessive over the one she'd picked and backed into the corner defensively to eat it. Josh didn't even come close to her while she was eating, but every time she saw him move, she'd back up even more into the corner and puff her fur up up a bit more until she was almost round and her back end was halfway up the side of the cage!

I love it when one of them gets the treat and can't find a place to hide to eat it. It's a panic situation, lol. That was one reason I put hidies at regular intervals, but then they rearrange the hidies so they're all in one section, and do piggy trains through them. Obviously, they're priorities and mine are not the same

They are getting equal shares when food is in there Bean love, so Demi is not really dominated by Prudie as she makes sure she gets her portion. I love throwing random pieces of food in there Piggleslove and seeing them desperately hunt for it as if it is their last meal LOL!

I have a singer! I don't know which girl is singing, and it only started last night, but someone is warbling beautifully! It took us weeks to catch Harlequin singing. She always stopped, when we entered the room or made any noise. So far, whomever is singing, has serenaded me 3 times I have no idea what changed to make her start singing, but I do remember that the girls were very vocal with each other, when Harlequin used to sing.

I would love to hear that Piggles love, it shows that she is a happy little girl. I had to tell Demi off yesterday because she was eating so quickly she was making herself cough. Too eager to get it down in case Prudie pinched it Hugs JO xx

Oh I'm sure she'll be nibbling delicately at her tea tonight after that talking to, Jo haha! They do just panic don't they, that if they don't eat up, the other will get more!
Interesting that you've had a few singing performances, 3piggles! I'm always so curious as to why they suddenly do it, I've never found a pattern to it at all. I had one who used to do it quite a lot - everyone else who's had a pop has just been a very occasional singer. I love it when you can creep in without them noticing and watch them in their little trance!

I'm not sure it's possible to tell which one's singing, as they don't exactly open their mouths and belt out a tune. Piggy cam would at least show what happened leading up to the singing, which might show why a pig would sing. I've never had any reason to think it wasn't a happy sound. I just wonder what makes them happy enough to sing at certain times, and not at others. I cleaned the cage yesterday. The fresh hay came out of the bag in a big flake, so I was pulling it apart, and the girls were running through it and jumping on it It's their favorite pastime

When I've seen them do it, they're just stood absolutely still with their heads raised up. Their pals are usually milling around them as normal, not in any way disturbed by it (which I would be if my husband suddenly started making such an unusual sound while in a trance-like state!). It's a funny one!
