I've started bringing Sally out of floor time and Until she gets used to it she stays in her travel case. Yesterday, she did come out but ran right back in. Any tips to help her get used to floortime.

I have 2 older piggers at about 6 months who never had floor time until I adopted them. I just put them in a little wire pen I bought at a feed store made for small dogs and pets. I left them alone, but supervised for 30 minutes the first time and I did this every day for a week. They sat there like, "Uh, what is this?" After the 3rd week they stayed for an hour and would walk around slowly. This is the time when you can give treats and get them to come to you. I would use baby carrots and hold it out and let them come to it. They still dont move around much..and if they are on the grass they pretty much just act like cows and graze LOL. Now the babies (13 weeks) go nutts..so reallly its a slow process for some pigs and some just run around like crazy.

I'm sure Sally's confidendence will grow cavy. Do you have any cardboard tunnels that you could put in different area's.? You can even make a tunnel out of cardboard boxs. If she sees that she has more than one bolt hole, she will feel safer to venture out further. You could try putting treats in them so she'll associate them as being food treasures. Just a little reminder for members that are new to giving their piggy free range time. Make sure all plants are well out of reach All cables are well out of the way If you have a free roaming pet like a cat or a dog, make sure they can't have access to the room your piggy is using. If piggy can't get back in the cage, leave food (including some hay) and water out. Leave a note on the door for other family members, saying 'watch out! Guinea Pig About! Its just incase a piggy is behind a closed door. Good luck with Sally, she will grow to love having some floor time

Nice message Clover!
Just wanted to add that plenty of hay and little hidey spots will do the trick like what's been mentioned.. I think my piggies do best in a large group.

I don't give floor time in the house. My pigs only come inside for cuddles.

Yeah, I put hay out and her fav. little tube to hide in. The reason I just started was because I still can't pick her up, so I got a travel case to bring her out side everyday for fresh air and to bring her to my aunt's when I went on vacation. So I use that to bring her to the play pen ut she does not want to come out much. Oh yeah last tuesday the 19th was Sally's 4 month birthday with my happy birthday!

no, i'm not, she just runs away even if I show my hands and she's relaxed. I can pet her but once I touch her side or underside she kicks me.

Don't give up... keep trying. try lifting her out of her travel case and letting her explore. If you have any removable hidey houses in the cage bring those as a piece of home. Food always encourages a reluctant piggy too... check out my page on this www.susieandpigs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/excersize.htm which might help a little
