Hello, My beautiful guinea pig honey had her first litter this morning. Three babies survived - sadly the 4th was dead when I arrived at their house this morning. The other 3 are happy and running around and even nibbling at grass already. But their Aunty Skippy is being mean. She keeps nipping at the babies. They are separated now - in 2 runs side by side. Skippy looks miserable but I think she might hurt the piglets. I would really appreciate some advice on this. Thanks, Ana

I would keep them seperated. She probably just wants some attention. I know my friends cats were trapped together when one had babies. The one that didn't have the babies was sorta weird and angry and stuff. But my guinea pigs did fine many years ago all together.
By the way this forum is anti-breeding.

Not anti babies though, I hope. I assume by anti -breeding you mean breeding guinea pigs to sell, rather than guinea pigs reproducing and staying together in a herd as they live in the wild. You should probably clarify this for new members...

There is a hole post about it. I love babies and have bred before I just thought i would warn you. I mean breeding as in breeding in your home. Not re-producing in the wild considering thats natural.

It is okay to discuss the pregnancy and the babies. We dont discuss intentional breeding. That goes for I quote "guinea pigs reproducing and staying together in a herd ". Any intentional breeding as discussed here by Administrator Treen: Every guinea pig message board has its own flavour, and Clover and I have decided that we'd like this board to be rescue friendly. We'd therefore appreciate it if you could keep discussions about intentional breeding and/ or showing to other message boards. People who do either are still perfectly welcome here, no heads will be bitten off! And anyone seeking advice on health issues related to either topic will be treated fairly, provided they don't seem to be promoting either activity. Thank you for your cooperation! You can find the rules in each idividual section of the forum located at the top. Here is the link to for the rules that I stated above. wheekers.proboards32.com/index.cgi?board=pigchat

I would keep them separated for now.

Sorry about one of the babies not surviving.
We will be adding to the thread about breeding, so I'm sure it will make things clearer for everyone.
To be on the safe side, I would keep up with the separation for now.

Is Skippy a rabbit or a guinea pig?
