I just got Aspen, tried it, and the smell is dreadful! Aspen smells like contaminated wood- seriously! I think once I need new litter, I'll get some fir & pine bedding & mix it with Kiln Dried Pine.

I used to use it, I didn't notice a strong odor, but it had lots of dust and that was making Sally sneeze. I've since changed to carefresh. She really likes the carefresh because it doesn't poke in to her feet everytime she walks.

I don't like CareFRESH, since it cost tons & tons of money, just tons of $$ down the drain, even if you don't smell wood smell. My do perfectly on kiln dried pine. I'm soon going to mix the kiln dried with pine & fir. Right now, I mixed Aspen into the Kiln Dried Pine.
But aspen smells nasty, not strong, just plain old nasty smelling.

I quite like the smell actually Our local pet shop got it in for us as we used to keep them on hay but no shavings, it said reptile bedding We use Snowflake softwood shavings now and they are really good Carefresh is serious ££ apparently and I don't think you can get it in England anyway.

I use aspen shavings for my current critters, and I also plan to use it for the guinea pigs I'll be getting soon. I get the Kaytee brand, and it only has a light scent, which is pleasant, like fresh wood. Maybe it depends on the brand or source, or maybe you got a bad batch. Normally aspen has very little odor, and it shouldn't smell bad.

I also use the kaytee brand of the aspen kiln dried. I love it much more and the bags of carefresh down here are outrageous for a small bag of it its like 20 dollars, i can get two huge bags of the aspen for that.

Aspen can have a strong odor. I use the Kaytee brand in the large bags. Are you familiar with burlap bags? They come from feed and seed stores (farm animal stores) They are also called gunny sacks. I buy these since they are breathable material and usely very cheap. Just take the bedding out of the plastic bag it comes in and put it in the sack and air out the shavings. Also you can use it as a shifter to shift out a lot of the dust. I know alot of bags say they are dust free, but they arent.
