10 Little Pigs and I both use a pine pellet bedding called Woody Pet, Equine Pine and some other names, depending on where it's sold. The pellets, when wet, break down to a sawdust that contains urine and odors for a good two months, saving lots of money on bedding and lots of time on cage cleanings. I cover the sawdust with a towel topped by a sheet, and just change the towel and sheet, mixing the sawdust around and reusing it.
I had a lot of aspen bedding left over when i changed to the pellets, and after a couple of months, it was time to change the saw dust, so I decided to use up the aspen shavings and get them out of the room. When I removed the sawdust, the linoleum facing on the base was pristinely clean, like new. With the aspen shavings, even with newspaper over the lino, it had been stained by urine over a couple of years. I always bleached the lino, so I knew it was sanitized, but I never got the stains out. The stains are completely gone. I don't know how the sawdust did it, but all the stains are gone.
Since this worked on linoleum, it probably works on the plastic bases of store bought cages. The bases get stained and ucky looking. One bag of Woody Pet, Equine Pine or whatever is about $5. Since I didn't remove the sawdust for a couple of months, I don't know how quickly it works. It may have been clean by the end of the first week, but I couldn't see the lino.

It sounds very much like the kitty liter I first used when I adopted the kittens from the shelter only I can't remember the name of it or why I didn't buy it again for that matter? lol I bought it from the shelter, so maybe I couldn't find it here where I shop? I do remember thinking that it sure looked uncomfortable for the kittens to stand on while they did their business. It took me a few days to realize that the stuff breaks down into sawdust. Heck I was scooping out Kitty pooh as fast as I could when they would go...their pooh smelled so bad...remember Lee Anne ...you laughed at me! Then by the time I figured out how the stuff worked, I had already tossed most of it in the trash can! Oops! my bad! Guess I should have read the package?

I saw a type of pellet bedding that I thought would be really good but I didn't know that pellets would break down into shavings so I didn't buy it! I think I will try it out when I come across it again! Hey, wait... did you just say you didn't change the bedding for a whole 2 MONTHS?! Wow, it must be really really good! I really am going to try wood pellets out!
