Max update ... the vet gave me some more meds last night and she said that he'll need to be on antibiotics for the rest of his life. Swell.

Oh that is a shame, does he cope well on them Kathy or does he need to have probiotics everyday?

So far he's been fine without any probitotic although I gave it to him initially ... I've got two tubes in the refrig. In my area, the vets don't really recommend using it any more since they are not sure that it really helps and, if there is a gut problem, it's too late for the probiotic to be of value. I had thought about giving it to Skipperdoo for his week's run of antibiotics but so far no one has had problems yet.

I wish the vets had just put him down. I went in twice to two different vets. He's not doing any better and he's just fluffed up and having trouble breathing. The last two times I was told that he's a little "stressed" ... the reason? His lungs/chest area are filled with fluid.

Poor thing, I am thinking of him and you (((hugs))) I had pleurisy when I was six...well, it never went away really. Same sort of thing I think...? Not that I'm being very helpful, I really hope he's ok

Oh I'm sorry Kathy, if he's fluffed up, he sounds very depressed dosn't he. Have they given you anymore suggestions? Vedra from CCCT might be able to give you some ideas.

He's been seen at three vet hospitals and by six vets and a radiologist so far.

I'm sorry he's still not right - it must be hard seeing him struggle on. If you've tried everything and you know he isn't having a decent quality of life, will the vets listen to you, or are they quite convinced he's okay?

They are still into "saving a life".

My girl Milano has fluid in her abdomen and is taking Lasix. She has lost 5 ounces of it so far but still has labored breathing. Her vet doesn't want to do any tests as it could be ANYTHING-probably something that will eventually kill her. I know what you are going through and I hope that BOTH of our babies improve. Anyone out there have THIS problem?

Its good the Lasix has helped with the excess fluid Beth. A diuretic was an idea for my Clover, who has excess liquid around her abdomen, but my vet wanted to see if a second week of antibiotic would help. It did and Clover dosn't have as much liquid around her now. But we are still not sure if the excess fluid was to do with her kidneys or a uterine infection.
I'm sorry Milano also has laboured breathing. My passed piggy Molly had laboured breathing, my vet gave her a low dose of steroids which helped. Has Milano been on a course of antibiotics, I'm just asking because my Molly was on a long course of it, before they tried steroids.
I hope she improves, please give her a hug from me.
