Opie has been having a little problem with scabby feet. When I got him they were slightly swollen and red. I bought some bag balm massaged it in every day. His feet were nearly better, so I slacked off for a few days (I know)...
Anyway, they each have just a little scab on them now. I'm doing the bag balm consistently every day, and though they aren't getting any worse they aren't going away either. They aren't causing him any pain, he doesn't seem to notice them at all. I just want him to have healthy smooth feet. Should I keep using the bag balm or is there something else I should get?

Winston's came like that ... they were kinda dry and crusted. The vitamin E oil did nothing but the bag balm seemed to help but I also slack off and don't do it all of the time. I wasn't sure if he had a fungal infection but the info that I researched about bag balm said that it is an antiseptic, aniti-fungal, and has lanolin in it. Do you think it might be bumblefoot or maybe an allergy to the bedding? Was he also housed on cedar? Can you take a photo of his feet?

How are you getting on with his feet, Merry? Hope they're a bit better and that he's otherwise doing well too.

I'm wondering too if there may be a skin problem here. Can I ask what bedding you use? I know it is an issue of some debate but it is believed that Shavings can contribute to this kind of problem. If you cannot youse chopped soft straw (Russel rabbit), medibed, vetbed, megazorb, or carefresh instead a generous layer of news paper and plenty of hay will do nicely... and the pigs will love it. Also do you bath the piggys? Broken skin as in scabs I'm worried about. Sounds very sore indeed. If this were my pig I would be getting it vetinary attention for that reason. Before I did that I would e-mail my friend Chrissie who runs www.gorgeousguineas.com and is somthing of an expert on piggy skin. well worth a look at her website and dropping her a mail to see what she thinks about the piggys feet. Sure she wouldn;t mind. Feel free to mention Susie (Barmy4Boars) said she thought that you coulf help! My initial thought was a callous or spur or something. They are little scabby cornflake looking things that grow on the feet pads. I do have a page with a pic if you want to look www.susieandpigs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/paws.htmSorry if its a bit vague. Just thinking out lou there in the hope it might help you. Any photos of your piggys paws? These would help.

We have been having a few problems with old threads popping up. I wonder if they didnt know Opie had passed away and was just asking the well being of the pig? This can happen when old threads pop up. We usually forget to look at times and dates.
