I'm a newbie here and I was wondering what is the most common problem guinea pigs can get? Also is this easy to treat? Can someone help?

Here's a great care guide for taking good care of your piggers www.guinealynx.info/healthycavy.html. A good diet and environment will help them stay in good health and help avoid some common problems. As with any animal, there are many things that can go wrong with guinea pigs. Some, like mites and respiratory infections are more common than others. How easy they are to treat depends on how severe they are, but one thing's for sure and that's if you have a good vet and seek prompt medical advice, your guinea pig's chances of less suffering and a full recovery are vastly improved. Over the years I've seen respiratory infections, sebaceous cysts, abscesses, eye injuries, dental problems, liver failure, cancer and many more things both minor and severe. Equally I've had guinea pigs who have sailed through life with no major problems. You just can't prepare for what illnesses they might get, but make sure you find a good cavy vet and your pigs will have the best possible chance.

Treen is right. I'd just say to find a good small animal vet in your area. My pigs go to a separete vet than my cat as he doesn't treat small or exotic animals. I am lucky to have a WONDERFUL piggie vet, Jeffrey Werwa!
