My Guinea pig, hamish, recently had a fight with his friend, Chilli, and Chilli bit Hamish's nose. Hamish bled a bit so i bathed it with salt water twice a day. It's healing now but yeaterday he banged his head quite hard. A yellowy green type substance squirted from his nose. Hamish wiped a lump off with his paw and ate it. I wondered if he needs to go to the vets, is it just some snot, or could it be puss to show his bite's septic?

It's possible that is an infection from the bite wound. A trip to the vet would confirm that or if it is another problem If it's an infection, most likely antibiotics will be needed. Both Pikachu and Skipperdoo were bitten by their cage mate. I put Skip on a preventative dose of antibiotics (with my vet's knowledge) but Pik never was on them. Hope he heals quickly. (Are they housed together ... I'm not familiar with them?)

I'm with Kathy. Sounds like it could be an infection; best be on the safe side and see what the vet thinks.
Kathy I'm pretty sure she has them separated now.

He went to the vets and they said that its just the healing process and to continue bathing it, i did but then the next day I noticed a really big brown scab hanging off his nose. it looked literally like he nose was peeling off. i was quite worried but it was very late evening so I was going to go to the vets again the next day. But the next day it had fallen off and his nose was looking perfectly normal except a small bald patch from where he was bitten. His nose is now a strange shape, kinda pokey and triangular, its been a week since he was bitten and its still like that, do you think it will stay like that forever?? Will he scar??

Can you take a photo or two so we can see it? What did the vet say?

Oh dear I'm sorry to hear this. Please seperate them now as once blood has been drawn they will not get on again and they will just continue to fight and cause serious injury to one another. I know this is so sad to do, but having had to do it myself I know it works out in the end. My seperate bos are perfectly happy living next door to eacher other. Happier in some ways. You can read my thoughts on this on this page on my website specifically about boars and pairings www.susieandpigs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/seperation.htmPlease keep us posted. hope he gets better soon.

They are apart now, in seperate hutches, next door. they were upset at first but now theyre a lot happier alone! Hamish's scab hasnt deformed his nose, its the swelling that has, and his mini bald patch is making his fur go a bit tufty. Hes okay now though. the salt water is REALLY affective. Hes almost back to normal, and a small scar is to be expected. i dont mind though, however he looks hes still my baby Hames!!! *cuddles guinea pig*
Thanks for your advice!!

Aw glad its healing well. Well done to you for seperating them. Allot of people hesitate as it is a real pain to find extra cage space to seperate as I know (now have spare cages incase of an emergency like this since Ray & Hughs fall out came so out of the blue!)... also well done on tending the wounds and not leaving infection to chance. Please keep us updated. Want to see this little fellow when he's all well gain bless him.

As soon as I work out how to send pictures I will!! do you think that they could go back together in the future, if I make sure they don't forget eachother?

Awwww, well they seem ok alone but I'm not sure, what are the symptoms of a lonely guinea pig???

Are they next to each other or near another pig? If so, they won't be lonely and ... the nice thing is that they won't be injured.
