My guinea pig has not been eating much of her food, only eating small ammounts of veggies, and yesterday evening I filled her water but when I looked today none was gone. I held a string bean and a carrot out but she showed know interest.

sometimes mine go a whole day without drinking so i wouldn't worry about it. remember you have only just got her so she wont be 100% settled yet, she probably doesn't trust you enough yet to eat from your hand. what i do with coffee is i put some food outside the entrance to the igloo and the rest on the opposite side of the cage. toffee, tufty, fudge and snowy eat from the big pile and coffee eats from the little one, i do it so she doesn't have to go out of the igloo, even the water bottle is next to the entrance of it.

So how long have you had her? She may well just be settling in, as Josie says.

what do you mean by that? pigs, well MY pigs, dont really eat much dried food they tend to pick at throughout the day so not much of that is normal. and theres 5 of them and they eat about 1/2 bowlful between them a day. the bowl is quite large though.

She didn't eat the food and nothing was wrong with it so I kept the food in. I have been giving her veggies since she doesn't seem to enjoy her food.

Marg....I think you should try and keep the food you feed her a constant thing....you can give her a tummy ache! Are you actually counting the pellets LOL? It may seem that she isnt eating, but I assure you she may be doing just that, just you are sleeping. Also she hasnt had time to settle in. Not to be harse here, but ever since you brought her home you have been taking pictures and holding her and trying to get her to eat veggies. You have to remember that pet store bought guinea pigs arent used to veggies. I wouldnt expect her to go crazy with them or even like them right away. I know you wont listen when I tell you to let her be. And if you are always checking on her every chance you get, she wont settle in. She will be a little anxious. Introduce a small baby carrot or piece of kale. Put it in the cage and leave it after an hour if she hasnt ate it take it out and try the next day with a fresh piece. She doesnt have to have veggies "every" day. And do this for me...run your finger over the little ball where the water comes out of the spout...does your finger get wet? If not you may need to squeeze some pressure out to make the water start flowing...I have had mine not come out and this worked.

They feed them veggies there and she enjoys them. For one I changed her food because I was told by people from cavycages.com that qoute it was crap. The water works and she is eating just not much is 4 days she hadn't even finshed a bowl.

You need to get a measuring cup and measure by the back of the bag so you know how much she should get..you may be giving her to much. I use Hartz pellets and it is fine! If anything you can get a pellet "mix" and mix this with the Hartz pellets ....but you have to gradually wheen her off the food. I use Hartz pellets and Nutriphase Gold mix and put it in a large screw top container and mix it. I also use a 1/4c measuring cup to measure out the food I give them.
You should give about 1/4 to 1/2 cup full of food per day. The bowl doesnt have to be full.
