My 5 year old boar Fudge's problem has returned he was doing really well put on 4oz even but now he is back to loosing weight again and off his food even cucumber which is his favourite normally. He is arching his back, doing a little murmur like he is in pain and small strings of poops again. I have checked and he isn't impacted, but he does smell quite bad. His eyes are dull and he sits with his face burried in the cuddle cup. I am really worried that I am going to loose him I have been giving him vitamins and today I am going to syringe feed him some vegetable juice. What else can I do, do you think I should take him to the vets?

I definately think you should take him to the vets. I am not sure what is wrong, but it sounds quite serious to me.

Well we have just got back from the vets. He says he thinks it's either a bladder stone or a growth. They are operating tomorrow so I left him there tonight. He has a 50-60% chance of survival If it's a stone and he survives the anaesthetic he should be ok but if it is a growth they are going to let him go. I hope against hope he will be ok. I will know after 3 pm tomorrow. It's going to be a long night and a hard day tomorrow not knowing. They promised to ring if there were any complications so I suppose no news is good news. Fingers crossed for my little boy

I'm so glad you got him to the vet. Our piggies become part of our families and it is very difficult and emotionally draining when they are ill. I will be thinking of little Fudge. Take Care.

How do they know it's a growth or a stone? Were x-rays or an ultrasound done? If not, why are they operating without doing some type of diagnostic work-up? Is this vet an exotics vet who regularly sees and treats guinea pigs and who has done numerous surgeries on guinea pigs?

It's really bad news Fudge died under the anaesthetic. They put him under and his little heart stopped and they couldn't get it going again We are devastated. We will go pick him up tonight and bury him next to his brother Bobby It sounds as if the lump was very big anyway according to the vet so maybe it is better this way even though it doesn't feel like it. It's very unfair but at least his suffering has stopped I am sure he will be romancing all the gals in heaven right now In loving memory of Fudgy Nibbles Salisbury The best rescued Guinea Pig ever, Fudge Salisbury was three years old when he was bought from a local animal sanctuary along with another Guinea Pig, Bobby (Who died from a stroke in April 2004). Fudge was well loved by everyone who knew him. GOODBYE DEAR FUDGY, you will be remembered forever ! Sadly died from a Bladder Stone on 22nd July 2005, Age 5 years. We will miss you!! oh no! in bed last night i was thinking 'please be okay...' cause i know the heartache of loosing a friend like that. Try to focus on all the good times you had together, and then think of the good times he is having over rainbow bridge.
I have drawn you a little angel fudge and will post it later for you.
Sleep tight little one....

We have all of our pets except one burried under this tree and when my favorite precious guinea pig died we were having a house build next to us and they had lots of extra stones and stuff so I took this big flat rock and made my guinea pig a gravestone usinbg the rock and paintpens. I drew stuff she enjoyed and I like that it gives it a personal touch.
