Are there different types of flea? I've always thought that fleas were fleas, but then I don't know lol. If they do have them, then I suppose ivomec might work, but other than that not a clue. Maybe phone a vet and ask?

For lice I bathe them twice with a kitten or puppy flea shampoo, with a pyrethrin level of no more than 0.05% - once to get rid of the lice and again a couple weeks later to kill the hatchlings. I would guess you'd do the same thing for fleas, though I've never had a cavy that had them. I'm not sure if they can get fleas from rabbits, but I wouldn't be surprised since they are so similar.

thanks guys... it wasn't for me... a firend who has a rescue in ireland asked. The rabbits got fleas and she was worried about the guineas. I've since been told piggys don't usually get fleas... thanks for the response though

Cavies can NOT get fleas. They get lice or mites.
I had a rabbit with a bad case of fleas. The vet tech told me to use Advantage for kittens, and it worked!

I',ve not known guinea pigs to catch fleas. Are cat fleas the same as rabbit fleas casper?

I think there was a pig on the CC that got fleas, but it's very rare.

All fleas are pretty much the same. It just matters on the weigh of the animal when treating it, not the type of flea, since there's only one kid; the blood drinking creppy fleas!
And cavies do not get fleas, they get mites instead.

Where did you get your information, Casper?

Cavies can get fleas, it's unusual but fleas are of course non-species specific. Just giving a good scrub-down with soapy water kills fleas - but Advantage or Revolution also repel them for a few days afterwards.

Was going to say the same thing. Virtually anything with hair can get fleas as far as I know. I would say that if the Rabbit has Fleas even in the next cage to your cavies your cavies will have fleas!
