I'm wondering if it's too much to ask for people to stay on topic in threads, particularly ones that are in the care and medical areas? There seem to be tons of comments lately that are either totally off-topic or make no sense. It makes it difficult for those who are trying to actually follow the threads or need information that is being posted.

I know it's fun to chat ... maybe you can see if they will start a chat area or you can PM people or go on MSN ... I think that's what some of them do.

Staying on topic is generally a good idea, especially on threads where it's related to information about the welfare of an animal. In these areas it makes it much easier for people to reference information for their pets if it stays on topic.
However, we appreciate that as in typical friendly conversations in life, you often go off on a tangent or twenty while you're chatting - it's completely normal and I for one don't want to get rid of that natural flow. The chatter box is the perfect place for general chat and anyone wanting to avoid general chitchat can steer clear of that board. I believe there's already a special thread in there for confusing conversations that go all over the place!
It's also a good idea when going off topic in a chatty thread, to make sure the person whose thread it is is happy about it. For example in the thread I made for Alex in chat, I'm completely and utterly happy for the conversation to go all over the place and for other people to post pictures and stuff, but just make you don't hijack someone's thread who'd like it to stay about the topic they created.
But it's a very good point to ask people to keep things on topic in the medical and care forums, Skipperdoo. We'll make more of an effort to keep an eye on that.

I agree completely Treen. And I'm relieved. We can't have this place turning into a police state and all.

Thanks, Treen. I know that those of us who are wondering and posted about what's happening in the care and medical section will appreciate having the threads more focused. I don't hang around the chat section normally so I really have no idea what's happening there.

Ahem, waves finger at Jemima and Josie No but seriously, I quite agree with you Kathy about staying on the subject in the care and health forums and also the pet parade if a member is having problems with another pet. Your post was so helpful Treen to.

Josie, with those two last posts you're kind of helping strengthen Skipperdoo's case!
When a discussion relates to a feature or working of the forum, it's good to keep the discussion on track or it makes it harder for us to know what people want.
