I have the word 'sucker' stamped on my forehead, in case you couldn't guess- Booger- she just turned 7- she's my husband's cat- and an absolute Diva. She was from a litter we fostered- when we fostered YEARS ago. Hermie belongs to my son- she's a walking coma cat- sweet, but completely unaware. Isaac has a way of taming things into oblivion. Not sure if that's good or bad yet. She was a stray kitten. Mouse will be 3 soon- she is a thief, a trouble maker, the white devil- anything bad happens- Mouse started it. She also is a big baby- sleeps nursing on my chin every night- though she really belongs to my daughter. She came from a shelter. Deuce is new. He showed up on the back deck hungry and filthy. After a quarentine and neutering, he has intergrated nicely into the house. He has a funny short tail that he must have lost as a kitten. He also has skin cancer- from too much sun on his white ears. They are stable for now, and the vet hopes if we keep him inside, it won't worsen and he won't have to lose his ears.

Sirius is my daughter's dog- he just turned 5- and is getting fat. He is the only pet that lives outside. We rescued him out of the middle of the highway when he was about 9months old. Until recently he had a pal, Lila, a Rhodesian Ridgeback we rescued, but she died of a stroke suddenly. He is a little sad without her, but we are doting on him even more than usual. Natalie is one of 11 puppies a stray dog had under our house back in December. Mom and the other pups found homes- Natalie stayed. She and Deuce sleep with my daughter- so I guess that makes them hers. The ratties- Owen and Chester belong to my daughter. Owen is blind, but a big sweetie. Chester is bold- likes to ride on the puppy's back, among other things. Harley and Lucas are my son's rats. Harley is hyper and Lucas is a chicken. They are excellent shredders, though- thinking of employing them to make small-animal bedding. Could be lucrative. Ditto was a present to my husband. He is the friendliest, cheekiest rat ever. He is also our ratty ambassador- goes to town on a shoulder all the time. His cagemate died recently, so he is alone for now, but he never notices as he is too busy begging for food.

The hamsters- Grizzly is my son's hamster- the tamest hamster in the world. Isaac puts him somewhere, he stays- so makes for great pic opportunities. He is an umbrous golden. Sullivan is my daughter, Virginia's tiny syrian. He topped out at 97 grams. He's a black-eyed cream extreme dilute satin. Foster is a ragdoll (also Ginia's) Most remarkably, he ingests a great deal of plastic daily and amazxingly has suffered no ill consequences. He is a long-haired black-eyed cream banded. Claudia- also Ginia's- is a BE LH white. She wants out of her cage. And she wants out of her cage. That's about all she thinks about. Possum is MY (shock) red-eyed argente campbells dwarf. She is very unfriendly. She is most often called imPOSSUMable. She will sometimes let me hold her, but she bites without warning. Claudia and Foster recently had 13 babies- 11 survived. The most will be going to new homes next week, but we are keeping 3- Parfait- Ginia's - the only ruby-eyed one in the litter. She has her Daddy's personality- a hamster paperweight Isaac picked the boy that looked like Foster- called Little Foster (LF) that got shortened to Elf. He is gonna be a big boy- show quality, we are hoping. And Rabbit was supposed to be mine, but Ginia has his cage set up in her room and has informed me that he doesn't like me as much as he likess her (and so it goes) He was one of two dom spots in the litter- a trait we hope to develop in months to come. Here at 17 days. The whole litter at 15 days

*sigh* I swear I'm almost done! AND the mice- These girls we took in from a rescue- they are all fat and untamed- but they get plenty of fresh food and a clean cage once a week. What more can they ask for? Eli is a LH golden satin- he is best noted for peeing on everything. He's not very friendly, but has his moments. Bentley is our chocolate satin boy. He lived with Luis for 4 months until Luis turned out to be a Louise. Louise had 11 babies- all black satins. She now lives with her 6 daughters- and her one surviving son has his own bachelor pad. The girls are all named after cereals (Cheerio, Alphabit, etc) and the boy is now called Adolph after he killed all his brothers. Oddly enough, though, he is a very sweet guy. Must get new pictures- but these are some baby ones. Not pictures are Ginia's Betta's- Majesty (F) and X (M) I don't take good fish pictures.

WOW! I don't know where to start! With my name of course I LOVE the pusses! And I like the hammies too. I had the sweetest dwarves but my vet always tried to talk me out of them saying they were usually mean. Mine weren't. Now I just have the one cat and my two piggies, but I'd have a houseful if I could. I had a Mom like you who allowed us to have loads of pets and I was always greatful for that. My husband was raised by a mom who hated animals so it's taken me 30 years to break him in to opening his heart. Is your husband's name Isaac like my son's?! Thanks for sharing your life with all these little fur -angels!

Thanks for all the lovely comments! Very welcoming! Isaac is my son, actually- Steve is the husband. So your son is Isaac? Very neat. My Isaac is 10. Ginia (Virginia) will be 13 this Sunday. Steve loves cats and dogs- the other pets haven't really grown on him. I bought him Ditto- and he loves Ditto- and he makes over Picasso because he knows he has to- but he's really a dog and cat kind of person. He tolerates the rest- but he wouldn't know but a few of their names, I bet. My cats all get on just fine. Booger is very moody, so she is always yowling at someone- mainly the puppy, though- but there are never any scuffles. Deuce fit is just fine when he came- though he and Booger avoided each other. Just two nights ago, I found them curled up together, so I guess the ultimate face-off went well. But- yes- they all get on quite well- even with Natalie- Deuce and Mouse and Natalie are very often taking over the recliner together. They look like a reverse oreo cookie curled up together. Mice are fun to watch- not very many of mine are very tame, though, I admit. The same day we took in the rescue girls, we discovered Louise was not a Luis and was about to pop- so we got overwhelmed quickly with mice and really haven't had the time to spend with them as I would like. That is one thing about mice- you have to spend a LOT of time with them for them to be tame. They may tolerate you- I can pick them all up adn all- but doesn't mean they like you messing with them. Bentley, Louise, and Adolph are quite tame, however- and will climb all over you, etc. Though Eli is the oldest, and I put a LOT of time into him- he has always resisted being held- so some I think are predisposed to being more friendly and some aren't. Rats, on the other hand, are a lot more confident, so it is easier to make friends with them. If you can get past the constant pee smell and the dry skin on the tails that needs constant maintence and the nails scratching your neck and shoulders constantly, rats make excellent pets. Owen and Chester are completely free-range when we are home. They are lazy and hardly move, but they COULD go anywhere they wanted if they chose to. Usually they just go steal stuff to destroy. My Possum (dwarf hamster) was much sweeter when she was smaller. She's gotten pretty codgy in the last few months- and I attribute it to her diabetes. She's always prefered that you sit and talk to her and she likes to play and show out for you- to being held. She knows she has to give up a kiss every day, though- and she USUALLY will stand for it.

I didn't know that about mice, not that I thought they were like Stuart Little Like hamsters, they don't have a very long life span do they. They are gorgeous and I really do like rats. I've been bitten by a hamster, so I'm a little more afraid of them, but they do look adorable. Does your little hamster need treatment for her diabetes? I know guinea pigs can get diabetes to can't they.

I test her urine once a week and add some pedialite to her water if her glucose of keytones are high. Other than that, she gets some extra fat and protien fod mixed in. Of course, avoid all other sugars- using the pedialite to regulate if necessary. Not really a big deal, but she doesn't like being held much- so testing her urine can always result in an injury. As a rule, you don't give dwarves anything with sugar- to hopefully avoid them developing diabetes in the first place- though that is no guarantee.

Your a great hamster mum Jenna I know sometimes getting a urine sample from a piggy can be hard, so I bet a little hamster only does a tiny puddle lol. I remember once waiting 70 minutes for Sweetpea to do a sample, when she finally decided to, there was more than enough. I love all the close up photo's of the rats and hamsters, you should win photo competitions ;D
