I have no idea how she did it- Natalie cut the top of her foot pretty bad this morning. I was mopping, so she went out on the back deck- there's a gate that keeps her on, the deck is completely bare except a water bucket incase she gets thirsty and a rug she lays on (it's not a very big deck) and later, when she came in, I saw blood spots on my clean floor. She acted fine- was bleeding moderately, but acting like nothing was wrong. I cannot explain how she cut it- I searched all over for a loose nail or anything sharp sticking out- nothing that I could find. Anyway, she just sort of fileted a piece of skin back on the top to one side. The vet said hte skin was too thin to bother stitching that it wouldn't hold- and it would have been impossible to shave it- the way it is in between tnedons- in order to glue it, so it just got cleaned nad dressed. We are to change the dressing twice a day- clean and put a clean bandage- and take her back Monday to have it rechecked. I shall be crawling around on the deck later trying to find anything sharp. Please do not drive by my house while I am on all fours. Nattie's boo boo-

Aww I am sorry! I always keep Styptic powder or a large pencil around for bleeding wounds or toenails! It stops the bleeding pronto. Also, my vet said if I didnt have any just use a little plain white flour (the stuff you cook with) until I can get my pets in if it's bad.

Poor Natalie! Do you suppose she chewed it open herself? Or a squirrel got her?!
Everytime I cut Bordy's nails I always get ONE of them too short and she bleeds. I tried the flour trick and just got a bunch of bloody flour-yuk! I FINALLy found a styptic pencil after long search; I guess people don't use them much any more.
Hope Nat's boo-boo gets better soon! Looks like she's milking it for all she can get!

I think we have decided that she jumped the gat- adn in her hurry to get back over before she got caught- she either scraped it on the rough-end edge of the deck-floor planks OR on the tension cable on the gate. of course, I can't test my theory while she's ailing, but I';ve seen her jump the sofa when she got ecited wnough so I bet she could jump the gate- just never considered it before.
Luckily, she was very good and allowed us to keep pressure on the cut until it stopped bleeeding- meanwhile eating a half-doen baby carrots to keep her occupied.
Thanks for the well wishes!
BTW- funny aside- she wanted to pick at her bandage, so we all put on one sock and now she thinks it's a game. LOL
