This morning I got up to go to the bathroom so when I came back my dog named buster was in the room and Lucy (gourgous is her other name) was not in her box but then she went in the box and my dog couldn't see her so he started crying it was really cute! He tryed to get to the other side of the cage so he could see into her box.

Is this really Alfalfa posting? It is really IMPORTANT that Lucy be totally protected from your dog or Lucy might not be around any more. The cage needs to be totally secured with a top on at all times and the cage up off the floor if that is where it is located. Guinea pigs are animals of prey and dogs are predators and I'd hate to read a post where something happened to your cute little Lucy. It is best if Buster is NOT in the area where Lucy is located since it is not fair to LUcy. She needs to settle in and be in a safe environment.

I know all of this it was just cute so I thought I would post it. I am keeping him out of my room. I just forgot to close the door. When he actually can see her hes not even interested. I might buy a little table for her cage but prices are adding up since we bought a cage. By the way what kind of cage do you have?
Oh and her cage has a lid and the lid can't come off.

Hello Alfalfa Maybe you could put a.ka. Alfalfa at the bottom of your posts. Please listen to Skipperdoo. My Betsy is fascinated with Rocky and Lucky but they just can't be together. I love them all too much to allow the possibility of something happening that is just Betsy's nature.

I will I forgot for a sec I changed my name at wheekers. I am listening to her. I know they can't be together and I sat in my room while my dog was in there letting him sit in my lap to see if she would come out but I didn't let him go at the cage I was afraid if he tried anything the cage might break. I have a quick question, I have been keeping lucy on a towel when I hold her and a few times I have heard a noise like shes ripping a thread. Swallowing one wouldn't hurt her right?

It is NOT cute. So far it's a setup for disaster and this is what the folks on the other forum where trying to get you to understand ... you needed to be prepared for properly caring for a guinea pig. Lucy's life depends on it. You need to immediately place Lucy in a location where she will be safe. That means getting her off of the floor and keeping Buster out of the room. If things cost too much, then now perhaps was not the right time to get a pig. You need to focus on the safety of the pig that you just acquired.

It doesn't cost too much but a table could be a bit expensive. He didn't hurt her or try to hurt her so I found it cute. I do not let him in my room but when you first wake up you can be a bit delerious. Oh wait..... He he lucy tried to eat the computer desk (its wood). I know something could happen to her and he will not be in my room. It was just sort of sweet that he started crying. He wasn't being mean or anything. He is probably scared of her anyway.

You could always buy one of those plastic children tables for now....Wal-mart has them or even a card table (like a fold out poker table) or even an end table. They run from about $15-$30...And I know you may be pressed for space and money, but these are one of the many things a guinea pig needs. I have read reports on placing cages on the floor and in my opinion I would rather have them at eye or waist level. I know some members place the C&C cages on the floor. For one the cage you have is just like mine, and I know it wont take much to get the top off. For two being on the floor the cage could get bumped or crushed if some one had an accidental fall. For three guinea pigs are very susceptible to vibrations...so any noise like heavy walking or tv or music can vibrate along the floor and irritate the guinea pig. And four drafts can happen worse on the floor than at a higher lever. (temperature changes occur more at floor level) And last, but not least, five...the fact that Buster di dget in your room. Even if it was an accident. It may happen again, and you may not be home the next time it does. I understand you think the crying was cute..but do you realy know what your dog was thinking? NO and neither do we...he could have been thinking that there is food..or along the lines of the natural predator "What is this and I want to get closer" so when the guinea pig went inside the cage he may of got upset because he couldnt study it any more. I made the mistake of thinking my dogs whining was cute whenever he whined to see my ducks. So I let him in the fence with me thinking he just wanted to see them ....he killed 2 before I could get him away. Never underestimate a natural preditory animal even if you have known them for years. PLease know that we have yours and your guinea pigs best interest at heart. We want what is best for both of you. YOU may think that we are nagging, but we really do care..GOOD LUCK!
PS...as for Buster being scared...thats when they are more likely to try and attack. We arent saying Buster will hurt her, you know him more than we do...we just have heard or experienced so many horror stories of good dogs gone bad when it comes to smaller pets!

Samnbud I do not think you are nagging I have been to many forums and thsi is not how people whine I can tell you are just being nice. I will look into a table. Poor duckies. We had a duck and one time he hopped out of his box thing off our dining room table and my mom woke up to my dogs crying and the duck walking around the house. It was sort of funny that they were afraid especially since my one dog is very big. I know this isn't really funny but we found it to be sort of odd.

Did you remove the heater or fan from the vicinity of the cage? That might be something to look at also when you are relocating the cage.

I thought I saw something in one of the photos ... maybe it was someone else's photo .. will check later. It was upright and to the left of the cage. Maybe it wasn't a heater or a fan. EDIT: I didn't see the photo on a quick search ... will look later. Glad you're having fun with Lucy! Enjoy.

Okay. If she gets out and about in your room, you'll need to make sure that she does not have access to the cord. Any new photos? She's very cute.
