I've wanted to get a hedgie for ages, and a few weeks ago I emailed someone I found online to see if he had any for sale - and he has one sweet little lady who needs a new home She's two and a half years old; he said he's having to rehome a few of his hedgies because he and his wife have just had a baby and don't have time to give them all the attention they need. We should be picking her up next Sunday, I can't wait ;D Here's a photo of her that he sent me:

Aww she's gorgeous Izzy, I've never thought of them as pets, they are very gentle little animals aren't they. Are you going to call her Miss Tiggywinkle

The hedgehogs that live in the wild in the UK aren't kept as pets, but these are African Pygmy Hedgehogs - they're much smaller and lots of people keep them as pets lol I haven't thought about names I think she's called Blossom, so we'll probably just stick with that...although my mum wants to call her Hetty lol.

Are they spikey to hold them? If they are, how can you hold them? I have always wanted to know this

Definitely ;D I think they only poke you if they're annoyed or scared - most of the time their quills lie quite flat

She is isn't she, I can't wait to get her home ;D She's going to be living in a cage in my room. African pygmy hedgies have to stay warm, otherwise they try to hibernate and then they can go into a coma and die. I bought a microwave heatpad yesterday (just need a microwave now lol) for at night when the heating's off. I just need a wheel, litter tray and some fleece blankets to make cage liners and I'll have everything she needs - other than some toys of course

She's here! She is so cute She was really friendly when we went to get her, she didn't ball up or anything at all when I picked her up, but she's understandably nervous now and hasn't come out of her hedgiebag yet. Hopefully she'll be ready to come out to meet me properly and have a little photo shoot tomorrow evening ;D
