not wanting to get too excited too soon but looks like new meds are working although they detest them and very difficult to get them to take it. Yay you are right Val everyone seems to be going to vets lately - hope that after this spell no-one is going to vet

Oh its all or nothing vet wise isn't it! We are so pally with ours now that cat one went to a party Boyf was holding at his bar saturday night after we'd been in with Kitty in the morning and he has swapped business cards and brochures with Guinea one so they can advertise each other!! lol
Glad new meds seem to be doing the trick..How much longer do you have to wrestle them in? I do feel for you!!

They still have a dose to go tonight and then 2 more days. Unfortunatley Huxley has returned to very runny poop (worse than before) although he is not going too often. As far as I can make out I think Heidi is fine now so am hoping that means it is just the move, change of diet etc and that Huxley will settle down in time as well. Oh and here are some pics of Heidi and Huxley supplied by sister-in-law and her man - Heidi is being held in one of them by sister-in-law

Oh they are so pretty!! Heidi's face reminds me of the colorings of my hamster, Lil' Hammie has! I'm sure Heidi would love to see Lil' Hammie to make sure though! But I think that would be a bad idea so Heidi will just have to take my word! I love to see pictures newpig, thanks for sharing yours! !!!!

I had posted about his tummy on the cat forum I just joined and quite a few of the members said the fact that it settled and then started up again makes them think its the antibiotics - apparently this is a very common reaction as they kill all those beneficial bacteria that cats harbour in the digestive tract. They recommended starting him on a course of probiotics after his antibiotics finish. He has just finished them so if no improvement by Monday will call vet and see if they can get me some. H&H are settling in really well, Dino is fine with them now and lets them right up beside him etc. Bronte still being really funny with them but she and Dino actually both got up with me last night - him on my knee and her at my feet on a stool so that is a break through for them I have asked hubby if we can fit a cat flap in our back door and once that is done will start letting Bronte out again and the kittens will be able to go out in just over a week. Has anybody seen this petporte cat flap - it reads their microchip to allow them access so no other cat can get in. Am seriously considering it but price is a bit scary. www.petporte.com/

aw! all the best newpig! glad they are all doing well now!
wow, 95 pound! flip thats like 300 NZD!
you could always just got for a magnetic one, that'll be cheaper, but they do require collars...

It is a bit scary isn't it I have had the magnetic ones before and they also now have infrared ones. The trouble is my cats are horrendous for losing collars - that will mean replacing collars, tags and magnets or with the infrared ones collars and tags. Also I have 4 cats and all the flaps only come with either 2 magnets or 2 collars. The magnets are something like £6.00 each and the infrared collars are about £15.00 each. Thinking in the long term might actually be less expensive to go for this microchip reader flap

so back to the vets this evening as antibiotics finished on Friday and little tums are still very unsettled. Vet is bit stumped as they are putting on weight, perfect body temp, healthy shiny coats and in high spirits. Poo sample been sent off so will get result back in about a week. In meantime she suggested I try feeding them some plain natural yoghurt as has lots of probiotics in it - so far they will not touch it.

Ooo fun! Trying to get more stuff down the necks of unwilling cats! lol
Have you tried just letting them lick the yoghurt pot themselves? Sid always wails for some yogu¡hurt when you have a pot as Boyf thought it was cute to let him lick the lid when he was ickle but if you put a splat in his bowl he won't even sniff it!
Hopefully it will be good news in the poo results but I hope they get to the bottom of it all soon.

Hopefully it will be good news in the poo results but I hope they get to the bottom of it all soon. no pun intended there then I bought one of the huge tubs of natural yoghurt as hubby likes it as well and thought if cats don't eat it he will!! Maybe I could spoon one into kids empty fromage frais pots - go through so many of them in a day there are always plenty to use. Good tip and worth a try.

newpig I stumbled upon this bit of information on the web and thought you may like to read it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When to Use Probiotics
At Birth, the intestinal tract of newborns is basically sterile, which provides the best opportunity for introducing the beneficial bacteria found in Probiotics. At Weaning, a young animal's digestive system is not fully developed to efficiently change from (mother's) milk.
Handling (shipping, vaccinations, grooming, weather changes and extremes, surgery and other situations) can put stress on the animal. This results in reduced appetite and feed intake, which leads to possible weight loss.
Antibiotic Treatment often lowers the number or growth of Lactobacillus and other beneficial microbes in the digestive tract.
Probiotics assist in the replenishing of these beneficial bacteria, resulting in a quicker return to a balanced intestinal microflora.
Since many stressful situations can not be anticipated, daily feeding of a Probiotic is recommended as a preventative measure.
Pets with large amounts of beneficial bacteria are better equipped to fight the growth of unhealthy organisms. So, if pets are to maintain a healthy body, they need large quantities of friendly bacteria. Supplement a well-balanced diet with a high quality pet probiotic and give your pet the health that he most certainly deserves. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also, I recall something about yogurt too but it must be "live culture" yogurt for it to be beneficial.
Anyway, just thought I'd toss in my two cents. Hope it helps.

Thanks for this Val. The big tub I bought is organic natural live yoghurt and it specifically mentions the probiotics that are in it. Pleased to say Huxley ate some last night at bedtime and both he and Heidi have tucked into it this morning.

Oh good!! I was concerned after reading about that feline leukemia virus is associated with enteritis. So that really is good news that the tests were negative.

well I have certificates for each of them to say they are vaccinated but I guess most vaccines don't 100% remove chance of disease so still a worry. I don't know what tests they are going to run - vet just said getting them all done. Vet still hopes nothing too serious as they are both affected and both so healthy in every other way. Have decided to splash out on this petporte cat flap for them but will keep them in until have all results back. Bronte is getting really fat with being in all the time so as soon as get it will programme her chip into it and let her out.

Well just got word to say test results are all back and I have to go in to vets this evening to chat to them about them and find out what to do next. Please keep fingers crossed. These 2 are so much in our hearts already and praying that nothing too badly wrong.
Val I have just seen your note in the petition thread about getting a cat. I am very biased as I adore my cats but I would so have one. Only things is as you know my piggies are outside in very secure hutches that the cats cannot get into - would your girls be ok inside with a cat - in saying that Beckee has 3 cats and Flor and they are all inside with her piggies. My cats are all so affectionate and I love it when they come in and curl up on my knee or lap. The kids are nuts about them and Heidi and Huxley love to play with them although Bronte and Dino are 5 and 4 now and disinterested in playing - they just want to cuddle up, be stroked and sleep.
