You are so right newpig. I've thought about that issue as well. I still have ill feelings about letting a cat go outside after mine were poisoned by a cat hater. Also I live on a canyon and there are coyotes and I would worry if I let them go outside that they would become fair game. Years ago when I owned my cats, it was unheard of to keep cats as "indoor only" pets, but now I guess it is done a lot? Which could also be an issue to take into account, given the safety of my precious piggy's. So, here I sit, on top of the fence and wondering which way to fall. I would only want to give a kitty the very best home without having to compromise any of my pets happiness. Does that make sense? I do love cats though and their "stuck up" little attitudes...maybe I'll let you pet me or maybe I'll rip you to shreds...who knows?

There are a lot of people who have their cats in full time. Personally it would drive me nuts but that is because I have 4 of them. Mine run around all day and then come in at night for the night. However, I close them in the utility room when we go to bed as I don't want them going into the kids bedrooms at night and I leave their bedroom doors opened so that I can listen out for them.
EDIT: sorry didn't say got the test results back - all negative so great that there is nothing wrong but means don't really know how to treat them now. My vet thinks either IBS or some other dietary issue. They are being treated with steriods for a couple of days and then going to try out some prescription foods from vet for sensitive stomachs.

Good news that all the tests are clear newpig! I hope that time and a couple of dietary tweeks can sort their tummies out soon!
Val, all my cats are 'apartment' cats purely because we don't have outdoor access from our flat. They do however have two balconies to go out onto so they get to lay in the sun and watch the world go by and watch birds in the tree opposite etc. I do think its a shame to have them housebound but I think if its done from kittens they adapt to it fine on the most part. Having said that, a lot of cats will never be happy always having the door shut on them and our first cat Inka always slipped through the door on any oppotunity which ultimatly led to her going missing. (another reason why we couldn't keep Flor as she still has that wild streak in her that needs to be out and about rather than happy indoors.)
Sometimes you wouldn't know there were any cats about but other times it is like a herd of fat elephants playing basketball as they storm around the house playing chase like only cats can. I can't wait to see how they react when we eventually move somewhere with a garden over the next year or so but another part of me will be nervous of that first time they stray out of sight...! I also have to say that mine really don't take any notice of the pigs. They were all a little curious when Elmo first came into the house but after a couple of days they gave up even sniffing his cage bars. I also had cages of mice in the house a few times when I had some pregnant females come my way and although they would sit for hours watching 'mouse tv' they never tried to do anything awful. I would obviously NEVER leave my piggies unprotected in their presence though!
Ooops..sorry for thread stealing H&H!

still no photos but will try soon. Steroids seem to be settling their stomachs down so fingers crossed won't start up again with changes in diet. H&H got out into garden again today for 15 mins supervised play and Dino came to join in. Was lovely watching them race around garden and Huxley and Scrumpy had a little cat/piggie chat.
Linda I think our threads are being overrun and will have to launch a counter-attack!

well we may just be making some progress with Heidi and Huxley. They finish their steroids today but I also tried them with some Royal Canine for Sensitive Stomachs. Their tummies had settled down and assumed it was down to the steroids. Last night I had very little of the Royal Canine left and had to put more of the Nutro food into their bowls that had been using for last few days and less RC. Upset tummies again today so looks like food made the biggest difference and not the steroids. Went out this morning and bought a bigger bag of the RC. Will still have to keep feeding some Nutro as some to use up and also have to switch Bronte and Dino over to new food as cannot keep them out of each others bowls. Hopefully we are on home straight at last.

Well, I haven't got the whole story as yet, still have to talk to my son about it. My daughter in-law just this morning sent me this picture of the Kitty in a text message from her cel phone and said that my son had brought the cat home from his work. From what I gathered, this adorable cat has been living in the construction supply yard / office, my son is a licensed electrician & supervisor and would always see this cat there in the yard. He inquired about it in the office and the big boss told my son that if he wanted to take the cat to go ahead because they had been feeding it for a while now since it wandered into the yard. So my son took the cat home...and the boss even gave my son some extra money to have the cat neutered too!! Once the cat was home with my son's family they discovered it was VERY good with the kids...who can be a bit wild at times...I mean the kids are wild, not the cat ....anyway they named the kitty "ROCKY"!! which was my son's favorite movie while growing up...and while playing football...because "ROCKY" can take a hit and still be a nice guy afterward! So far that is how kitty Rocky has been with the kids...just takes a hit and does not scratch.....like Flor did beckee! LOL As I find out more I will certainly let you know. I think the kitty is sooo pretty..I'll ask her to snap another picture of him to post. See beckee & newpig...you were aiming at me but you got my son instead!!!! HA HA

YAY for VAL! What wonderful news! It's a shame I can't get a cat or dog! But hey, I bet God knew that you would be best with one so one just 'dropped out of the sky'! ;D Oooh! Can't wait for more news and pictures! He is a lovely cat! Is he already an adult cat? Oh! I'm so excited myself even though it's not me getting a cat! So you must be even more excited than me! But then I've got to admit, Beckee and Newpig, you two are BAD AIMERS!
