It has been so humid the last few weeks, with rain and t-storms every day and sometimes all night, that I haven't been able to wash the carpet in the piggy room. I use Lysol sanitizing wipes to clean the piggy area, and they work really well, short-term, to get the pee stains out of the carpet. However, I usually did the carpet weekly. With all the rain, it's been about three weeks of humidity since I washed the carpet. It's still raining, and since the humidity isn't suppose to break this week, I finally broke down and washed the carpet. Since it's so humid, and the carpet isn't going to dry anytime soon, on its own, I set up fans in different places around the room, to blow the carpet dry. The kids waited until I had the carpet all clean, then came out to see what had changed. They got so buffetted by the wind from the fans, they looked like they were fighting against a gale force wind, lol. They lasted a couple of minutes, then ran back up the ramp into the cage. They milled around the cage giving evil piggy looks until I gave them a treat. Then they decided to forgive me. Food, the way to a piggy's heart. So my carpet is finally clean. It may even dry sometime this week, lol. Once it's dry to the touch, I'll turn off the fans so the kids can come out and mess up the carpet again, lol.

I can just see them trying to grab the floor with their piggy feet against the wind LOL. Hopefully it will dry soon.

aw i can just imagine them! katie i'm in the same boat as you, I live in a small rented flat and I too would love to let patches roam around all day but it just wouldn't be fair on the next tenants if the carpet were to get into a state!
Patches does love having an adventure though, she never hides under anything when i let her out onto the ground, she sniffs and jumbles around in everything!

Lol shame there sren't photos of the mini indoor gale!!! Such a funny image!! ha ha that is funny! Who'd of thought gale force winds could be indoors! lol lol lol Is it all dry now Laurie? Ever thought of putting down a painters canvas cloth to cover your carpeting when your piggies are out roaming? A painter's canvas has plastic on the backside that would prevent moisture from seeping down into the carpeting and your piggies feet would still be on something nice and soft. That way when you need you clean you just pick up the canvas cloth and squirt it off with the hose! Hey you could even draw pretty designs or scenery on the canvas cloth too and make it amazingly attractive. Sounds like fun to me!

Hehehe, yes, Val, the carpet dried in a couple of hours. It couldn't resist the gale force winds, either. We have a big, round fan we bought to move the air in the attic. It's really strong, and it was the biggest culprit in creating the gale. It dried the rug, though, so it wasn't such a bad idea.
I have a carpet cleaning machine I bought a few years ago. It's Hoover Steam Vac. It's heavy and bulky, but man does it clean carpet. Instead of using the carpet cleaning solution in the machine, I spray the soiled parts of the carpet with Woolite Pet Stain & Odor Remover + Oxygen. I let it set long enough to set up the machine, fill the rinse tank if I have to, get it plugged in, etc., then I rinse the carpet and suck out all the dirt, stain and odor. After over a year of free-ranging, the carpet is cleaner than it was when we moved in. It's also an ucky olive green color, so it reminds me of grass, lol. I'm surprised the kids haven't tried to eat it. When daughter moved into her first apartment, the coat closet carpeting stunk of cat urine. We had to clean it a couple of times to get out all the smell, but it worked. The only problem is you have to go over the washed area a few times until the amount of water being sucked out of the carpet is down to a trickle. Hub didn't do that in the family room, and the stain from the rockers on the chairs came off on the carpet. So much for cleaning the carpet.
