[glow=orange,1,000]Anyway this morning my guinea pigs seemed really happy. Austin was actually hoping in his cage and when I rubbed him on his back he always does a purring sound. I did that after school and he was twitching again and flopped over on his side a few times. I take it he's happy? Has this every happpened to you? [/glow]

I would have thought he was happy, I was just wondering what he was trying to say

I had a piggie once who was flopping on his side a lot and when I checked him over later that day I found out he was very impacted, which was making it uncomfortable for him to stand upright. So yeah, what I'm saying is you might want to do a quick little botty check to be on the safe side.

Just turn him on his back - wrapping him up in a towel first will help him to relax - and gently separate the testicles. If you see a lump of poo it will need to be gently swabbed out with a most cotton swab. If he's too wiggly, have someone help you.

Is it not distressing for guinea pigs to be on their backs? I know thats true with rabbits because they try to get back over and can hurt their spine, but I wasent sure about pigs.

They can get fussy about it, but I have yet to hear of a piggie getting hurt because it was held on its back. If you have an especially fidgetty one giving it a veggie can help it to settle down.
