Has anyone seen any good films lately?
We saw 'Behind the Candelabra' last week, a film recounting Liberace's life during one of his relationships (from the perspective of the other guy, not Liberace's who always denied he was gay). I must confess that although I'd heard of Liberace I didn't know a whole lot about him and hadn't seen any of his performances (he was a pianist for anyone who hasn't heard of him!), but it was a really enjoyable (and very kitsch!) film and had a fantastic cast - Micheal Douglas was brilliant as the extremely flamboyant Liberace and Matt Damon was great too. Rob Lowe's character got a lot of laughs!
Has anyone seen The Great Gatsby? Can't figure out if I want to see it or not - might wait for DVD!

Haven't seen either of these movies but they look good. Don't get the chance to watch many movies and not until they are out on netflix. I did recently watch "Get Low" which started Robert Duvall and Bill Murray. A lot different than I thought it would be but still good.

I am the queen of wanting and planning to see a movie, but never actually doing it. We have a very large TV and a great on demand movie selection, so for $4.99 we can watch most of the new movies very shortly after they hit the theaters. I never remember to watch?

We recently watched 'the angels share', it's made in Scotland and about a group of wild youths who are doing community service. If you know about whisky you'll know that the angels share is the small amount that evaporates. Anyway it's worth watching, and the main actor was actually a real prisoner at one point and the incident that led to him being jailed in the film was true, I believe. Worth watching as not well promoted so not many people knew about it. Maybe I liked it because of the true scenic bits of Scotland . Xxx I also watched the Muppets the weekend with my grand daughter, she loved it but it got a No from me. Never liked them years ago either. Oh I saw the 'hunger games (or something like that)' it was good but it I thought the principle behind it was frightening. Anyway I enjoy films so keep the names coming.
Hey I watched the bridesmaids with my 83 yr old motherinlaw........forgot about all the bonking at the beginning..........I couldn't just turn it off so just laughed xxxx

I just looked it up and it's one of the films you can watch online (for free) with LoveFilm so I've stuck it on my list of things to watch! Have also added 'Get Low' to my rental list.
I read The Hunger Games books are really liked them - I enjoyed the film more than I expected to (and having seen Battle Royale which is an earlier film with a similar premise, The Hunger Games seemed like a candy floss version of it!). We just saw the main actress from that (Jennifer Lawrence) in a film called The Silver Linings Playbook which was really good - a comedy but one with a bit of a dark edge which I like, keeps it more interesting!
I thought the Muppets film was okay but not really my thing either. We took the kids to see Despicable Me 2 this weekend which was really good - love the minions! Looking forward to Monsters Inc 2 starting soon.
3piggles, you must be too busy to get round to sitting on your bum watching tv - that's got to be a good thing, right?!

I want to see "behind the candelabra" ohun, I have always liked Librace. I think am I right in thiinking that Mat Damon plays his lover.
He did always deny being gay, in fact, someone suggested this in ether the 1950's or 1960's or so I believe and he sued them, but they were right all along.

There were some really funny moments with his character, Scott, and Liberace - especially around the hot tub! I really hadn't heard much about Liberace before we saw it, so it was all news to me. It did have about him suing the papers who'd implied he was gay though, and he did rather well out of the damages/settlements.

Didn't Rock Hudson also deny being gay, though he definitely was? He played leading man parts in TV and movies, too.
We want to see Despicable Me 2. We're highly enjoying the promos!
Bean, I can't sit very long, so I keep getting up and moving around. Makes it hard to watch a movie in a theater, and if we watch at home, hubby's always offering to pause the movie. Makes me feel like a bother, so I tend to avoid them. I'm catching a few on the movie channels,so I'll see them, eventually!

Yes 3 piggles, I think you are right, Rock Hudson did deny being gay. I know you cannot believe everything you hear or read but I heard that James Dean was gay too.

Seems to be a lot written about James Dean, Marlon Brando and Clifton Webb being gay, as well as a number of directors and producers at the time. Never understood why it was acceptable for performers, but not for anyone else?

You are right 3piggles, in other walks of life even in these so called enlightened times, they are nt accepted.

I'm looking forward to seeing 'Alpha Papa' next month - the Alan Partridge film. I really hope it's good - films of sitcoms/ tv series so often aren't but it looks reasonably promising!

Saw The Intouchables at the weekend - a French film about a (very) wealthy bloke who's a quadriplegic hiring what everyone else sees to be a rather unsuitable young man to be his PA. It's very funny but also also a really lovely story about the relationship between two blokes from completely different walks of life.
The trailer for it is here:

I really want to see The Worlds End, with Simon Pegg. We laughed so hard through Shaun of the Dead, and this one looks just as funny. I know, no redeeming intellectual value! Oh well

I don't think I've seen Mulan. I'm a major fan of the Ice Age series, though why they ever trust Sid to do anything right, I don't know

I haven't seen any of the Ice Ages yet, but they are on the list. I also want to see "Cars" I think it is called and a few others. I think they are brilliant.
Has anyone seen the film "Joe's Apartment" with the animated cockroaches, it is a classic (Not if bugs freak you out though LOL!)?

I started Joe's apartment, but got a bit grossed out by the moving walls of animated cockroaches. They were really cute in some scenes, but not in others. I saw the first Cars, but haven't seen the others. They are the same basic plot, just changing a few of the details. There is a movie out now, Turbo, that looks cute. Snails as racers

It's the balloon fiesta here in Bristol at the moment - saw a minion one floating past earlier today! Minions from Despicable Me, by the way. Haven't seen either movie yet but they seem to come recommended.

We all enjoyed them both, the minion balloon sounds fun! Hope no one gets their roof tiles knocked off this year...
I've not heard of Joe's Apartment - will watch the trailer when the kids are out of the way (it's a 12).
