Okay I was using a toothbrush to brush him...he hates being brushed...also what type of bedding works best for the long coated Peruvian? He really doesn't may except around his rear area and I was wondering if the bedding cold be adding to the problem. I am using Carefresh

I've not had any long haireds myself, so don't have much advice to offer - I have had a couple with a sort of long pelmet at their bum end but I just trimmed it off as it got dirty and knotted and they hated having it combed. Long hair on guinea pigs isn't something they tend to enjoy so I'm all for haircuts!

Me neither hun, I have no experience of them but I think they are gorgeous. I have heard that they want brushing daily though.

One of our members had long haired pigs, and she kept them on fleece or VetBed. She also trimmed the hair back regularly, so it didn't collect a lot of junk along the way, and combed them regularly. She said she just combed them during lap time, and kept the hair trimmed to just above the bedding. I remember a discussion about hair trimming scissors, and while there was one brand everyone seemed to prefer, any pet or human hair cutting scissors seemed better than other types of scissors. Also, a fine-tooth comb for combing out the hair and picking it up for clipping seemed to be important. I have bought both at Walmart for very little money, as hubby trims my hair for me. Basically, being able to see where you're cutting, so you don't cut the pig, was the more important than getting a perfect cut.Again, I'm pulling this out of memory, from a several years ago. GuineaLynx has this section on grooming: www.guinealynx.info/grooming.html It doesn't say a lot about hair trimming, but it gives some good, basic info.

That's probably what I will be doing. At age 6 months, Ziggy is already quite long haired. He is beautiful though.

I'll try. The pictures are on my smartphone. I have not done it before so it will be a learning experience!
