Mia hasn't eaten since last night. No bloat. No signs of URI. No problem moving around. She just isn't comfortable or happy. I tried feeding her a pellet and orange juice mash, but she only took a tiny bit, then wouldn't refused any more. She let me pet her way too long, so I know she's not feeling well.I'm thinking teeth or heart, hoping it's teeth, or some other easily treatable problem. 3 p.m. vet appointment. I'll take the meds left over from Momo, which are Baytril and a painkiller, in case she gets those prescribed for her. Might as well save a little money. I'll post about the vet visit, when I get home. I took both pigs to the vet, though I made pockets for them, so Mia wouldn't be bothered. The vet took X-rays, and her temp. The X-rays showed major fluid build up and advanced heart problems. Her temp was already starting to drop, 90.5F, and she was showing signs of shutting down. When the vet brought her back from the X-ray, she wanted to be held, and held, and held, which is totally unlike badassbosspig. Morty was on the fleece pad with her, and we all spent time together saying our goodbyes. I'm having her cremated. Down to one, lonely and lost guinea guy. First thing he did was the check the whole cage for her, just in case. I will get him a friend or two as soon as possible, but for now, it's just Morty and me. I've done a lot of crying, and I'm sure I have a lot more to do, but I know in my head that I did what was best for her. My heart has other opinions, but we'll get through that. Mia Coppola 2015

Oh no! I'm so sorry 3piggles. What a shock - I didn't even realise Mia was poorly as I didn't get back on here yesterday. It sounds like it was a pretty rapid onset of symptoms which hopefully means Mia had little awareness that anything was going on - avoiding any prolonged illness is always a blessing.
You must be gutted though, I'm really sorry, and so soon after losing Momo too. Hope Morty is okay - I'm sure he'll be getting lots of extra cuddles and attention from you, and in turn helping you get your head around it all.
Sleep tight Mia xx

You have my deepest sympathy and my heart goes out to Morty, who must be devastated by the loss of his friend. Special cuddles heading his way.

Thank you all Morty is not doing well emotionally, though I believe he's doing well physically. We are spending as much time as possible in the family room with him, and I rearrange the cage a few times a day, just to entertain him. He didn't understand what was happening, yesterday. I had him on the fleece pad with her, and she wasn't strong enough to even respond to him. I'm having a hard time, and want to be in the right frame of mind to welcome new ladies to the family. Losing two pigs so close together has left me a bit numb. He does have an abscess on his left elbow, but the vet checked it while we were there, and said to leave it. It's not hurting him or bothering him in any way, and there's too much chance of infection if we express it. He gets a reprieve from being bothered. He will get a bath later, as he's letting his hygiene go a bit, so I hope that will perk him up. If nothing else, he can be mad at me. Sorry not to be on right now. I just need some time to adjust.

Sorry Morty is not doing well, that must be tough. Sorry about his abscess too - has it been there long? I hope it doesn't cause him any bother. Hope his bath didn't put his nose out of joint too much, and don't be hard on yourself thinking you need to rush into making any decisions about his long term companionship. You'll know when the time is right for you both.
Take care. xxx

I am so sorry to hear about Morty darling, it is is very hard when one pet dies and leaves the other not knowing what has happened. We all fully understand your not wanting to get another piggy just yet and whilst we miss you, we understand fully why you are not posting at the moment. Lots of love to Morty, please tell him his Auntie Jo Jo loves hjm. Lots of love to you to sweetheart, at this very sad time.

I admit to wanting to get Morty some friends, because I know how lonely he is, and I feel guilty that I can't be with him all the time. Watching the weather, which is flipping between hot and dry, and hot and very humid, I'm going to call the rescue tomorrow, and see if they have time to do a meet and greet. I don't want a repeat of the Momo/Mia problem, and that started once they were both in with Morty. If the rescue can't do anything tomorrow, I will wait until Tuesday, as Friday is supposed to be steamy hot, weekends are a madhouse at the rescue, and they are closed on Mondays. Either way, he will get some new lady friends. I'm doing a bit better, but just wish I could be the friend Morty needs right now.

I'll keep everything crossed for the rescue to have in some suitable new chums for Morty - it's so good of you to put his needs first, even when it's a difficult time for you. Hope they can squeeze you in. Hopefully it'll all be easier to arrange with hub being around at the moment. Please keep us posted with any news and give Morty a cuddle from me. xx

Two new beautiful young girls, 6 months old and a bonded pair. The nice thing is that hubby seems really interested in these girls, as he was interested in Morty. He named them, and he's been paying attention to them even when I'm not around Pigloo City is a happy place, once again
