Hi,
I’m happy to say I’ve adopted two new members of the family. I have many concerns about their well being, and I know it’s A combination of a healthy diet of hay, a variety of veggies , and a decent enclosure that gives them freedom to move around but also feel safe. My first question is: how much hay and veggies should I give them? Second; how quickly do they grow? I was Told Tim and Oscar are males and only 2 months old. The enclosure seems fine for now, however, I would love some feedback!

Hello and welcome to Wheekers! Congratulations on your new additions. I find that guinea pigs tent to reach their full length by about 8-9 months, but then carry on filling out until 14-18 months (these figures are vague!). So yours will have a lot of growing to do yet! This is an excellent website on cages - it tells you how much space they need and how to make your own for very little money (compared to store bought cages). The more space the better, especially for boys! My feeding schedule is unlimited hay (they can't have too much, it's the most important part of their diet, and they love to play in it too), a small amount of pellets (for adult pigs, baby pigs can have more and while a timothy based pellet is best for adult pigs, an alfalfa one is best for growing pigs) and a handful of veg a day. I offer a small amount of several veg each day for variety in taste and nutrients. Quite often it's just trimmed bits from stuff I've cooked for us rather than anything special. This is a great page on diet. The page mentions vitamin C - some people supplement but I never have. There's vitamin C in the pellets they have and I know they get a decent amount from the fresh veg and fruits too. Hope your boys are settling in nicely - I like their names!

Hello and welcome I second everything Bean said. The diet ratio is listed as 80% hay, 20% pellets. Unlimited fresh water, of course. Fruits and veggies are treats, not meals, and make great bribes for lap time or when you have to clip their nails
