June is the sixth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendar and is 30 days long. It is the month that has the most amount of daylight hours of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shortest amount of daylight hours in the Southern hemisphere.
Many celebrations take place in the month of June, especially marriages. According to one etymology, June is named after the Roman goddess Juno who is the goddess of marriage and a married couple’s household. It is considered good luck to get married in this month.
June and May are the only two months that doesn’t start on the same day of the week as any other month. June ends on the same day of the week as March every year.

It is considered good luck to get married in this month. Oooh thanks for the reminder! (I mean, I already have - it's not enough notice to get a divorce and do it again.) If I can just hold it in my head for a week or so, I can claim moral victory for remembering (unless the fella's cheated and put it in his phone calendar...). I certainly love the longer days anyway! And the warmer weather (although it was a bit humid yesterday, I felt like the air was pressing in on me when I was mowing the lawn).

I totally forgot to even check the June thread We didn't get married in June, either. October, which turns out to be a great time to get married, as the temps have cooled, the rains have stopped, and the leaves are changing color.

Ooh yes, longer days for the win. I would really like to travel somewhere more north, like Tallinn, and take part in the midsummer night celebrations.
I was a few years back on an island next to Tallinn and at midnight there was still enough light for us to have a walk through the forest. At 1 AM the sky still had some sun rays at the horizon.
We also didn't get married in June...we went for second half of August. June here can still be rainy and chilly.

Unfortunately the days have gotten much cooler and shorter here in Australia.

I hear some of you had snow this week, misspiggy?
I didn't realise Tallinn was far enough north to get that much more daylight, Amber - that must have been great!

Ooh, Tallinn looks beautiful! Must be gorgeous under the Northern Lights! We got snow this week, too, lol The top of Mount Washington got about 6 inches. The rest of us just got a lot of rain and cold weather. I have friends in Australia, and they say it gets pretty cold in some places, in the winter. Part of that is probably to do with it being the opposite of pretty hot in the summer, but it's definitely something people talk about. I don't know if it gets as cold everywhere in Australia, though. Does it, MissPiggy? Either way, stay warm!

Also here, in the Alps there is still snow in the mountains...so much that our farmer from which we get our hay can't offer us anything. I had to buy some hay from Germany and bring it to Vienna.. We didn't really had a spring here...it was just 2 weeks in March and then back to 5 degrees C in the night until a week a go. Since Monday though, we have over 20 degrees C in the night and up to 30 during the day... I don't know...but the climate is getting crazy..
Stay warm, misspiggy!

Our spring was similar, not with more snow, but with lots of rain and sub normal cold. Now it's a bit above normal for heat, which will continue through next week, but compared to some past years, it's not hot at all. Overnight, temps drop enough to open windows and turn off the a/c. MissPiggy, one of our neighbors recently returned from Tasmania. His girlfriend lives there. He spends your summers there, and our summers here. I don't think he's a cold lover

Well, I'm completely over rain! We've had a couple of month's worth in the last week.

We're supposed to get 1.5 inches tomorrow, so we'll know how level the front yard is, now that hubby's put so much dirt and effort into getting it level. I know what you mean. No sun. We're extremely dependent on sun to be happy and healthy. Long periods of rain just don't work for us. So far, it's been a cool June, which is how it normally is, but hasn't been for several years. Probably El Nino v La Nina, but either way, it's nice to still have the windows open for most of the day, and the a/c on only for a few hours. That will change, but I'm liking it while I've got it Now to get rid of the pollen!!!

Rain arrived early, so no getting out to bike this morning. It's a great, soaking rain, so everything is getting a great watering. This is what June used to be, cooler than May, rainy. Temp is all the way up to 55F, so I'm loving it. All windows open

12c is a bit park for me to have my windows open! I'd have them closed and an extra jumper on. We've only got a couple of degrees on you at the moment.
It's been either drizzling or raining all day, but we have had a bit of garden appreciation earlier, as in addition to our usual regular birds (sparrows, blackbirds, dunocks and bluetits) we had a pair of woodpeckers and some goldfinches visit us during tea!

We've had so many birds, nothing unusual, just large quantities, since hubby has been working on the front lawn. He has it almost leveled, and the birds are loving all the worms in the exposed dirt We had a Northern Flicker here a few days ago. Woodpecker family. Bigger than most. Smaller than a pileated woodpecker. Cold yesterday. High around 80F today, back into the 70s tomorrow. Welcome to New England, lol You and hubby, Bean. I'm in a tank top and shorts. He's in jeans and hoodies with the hood up, lol Great sleeping night last night, because it was cold enough for me I've been looking at those bedsheets that pull heat away. They are so expensive, I'm reluctant to try them and find they don't work. One review site said they have to go over a cooling mattress pad, to work right, which none of the ads for those sheets ever mentions. I think I'll get the mattress pad first, see if that makes any different, then maybe get the sheets.

My husband's much softer than me when it comes to temperature and wants the heating on way before I do (so I have to listen to myself saying things like 'Put a jumper on!' and feel like I'm 20 years older than I am!) but I'm not as hardy as you, for sure!
We bought a mattress topper this winter (we're just putting off forking out for a new mattress!) which is two sided and one side is supposed to generate heat and the other is just normal. Even in winter, the fleecy side created a right sweat box - I turned it over after a couple of nights and that's been fine!

I'm talking about sheets called Sheex, that are supposed to wick heat and perspiration way from the body. They are made of Under Armor fabric, which does the same for clothing. I get hot under the covers, even when it's cold out. Only my toes get cold. No idea why. So I think these would really reduce the overheating effects in the worst heat of the summer. According to reviews I've read, these, and all such sheets, have to have a heat absorbing mattress pad underneath, of the sheets don't wick heat and perspiration. I need a new mattress cover, anyway, so I'll get that, first. Hehehe, I know exactly what you mean. The first time I heard myself tell daughter to close the fridge door, turn out the lights, etc., I sounded exactly like my parents Hub and I are definitely from Venus and Mars. We would live in totally different climates, given the chance. I'd go to San Francisco, and he'd head back to Florida.
