I knew it was going to happen eventually. That my precious boy Spud would succumb to his illness. I know that having a pregnant sow is traditionally frowned upon, but with spuds condition worsening it was all that I could have hoped for. Muffins ended up pregnant before Spud died. It was actually very stressful for me and my family, uncertain whether or not Spuds babies would be born, not just alive, but healthy. This morning, my husband heard tiny little squeaks, and lo and behold, Spuds daughter was born. Her name is McKenzie and she has her fathers personality. Shes so spunky for only being 12 hours old. Muffins is such a good mum, and with the loss of spud, I am certain the companionship between her and her daughter will be strong. I will be postig pictures soon. I really miss him guys at least McKenzie's birth helps ease some of the pain and brought joy into our lives

We're a pro-rescue forum, and it would certainly never be advised to breed from a guinea pig with serious health issues. But those points aside, I'm certainly glad mum and baby are both doing well and hope they continue to thrive.
We lost three of our older pigs in January, it was a tough month. Last month we adopted two new pigs, and their energy and different personalities are certainly a great addition to our home, for both pigs and people.

But those points aside, I'm certainly glad mum and baby are both doing well and hope they continue to thrive. We lost three of our older pigs in January, it was a tough month. Last month we adopted two new pigs, and their energy and different personalities are certainly a great addition to our home, for both pigs and people. I understand that guinea pig pregnancy ( as with any animal) is frowned upon) but the intentions were not there nor were they forced. As you know Spuds sickness had to do with his weak lungs and infections that were not contagious that were caused by his allergies. Muffins pregnancy came at a surprise since they were always supervised and kept separately. Its so easy for them to get pregnant. I am also not into the whole "lets get y pets pregnant" thing either and out of all the animals we ever had, which is ALOT, this is our first. I'd like to consider McKenzie as a blessing, more so because i know the tendencies of still births are extremely high with first time piggy moms. The little girl has definitely helped all of us through this sad time, moreso with Muffins. Her depression and her calling and crying for Spuds companionship has quieted down. It's always hard when losing a piggy. Spud was given to me to deal with my anxiety and stress, so I guess im taking it harder than anyone else. Spud was my unofficial emotional support companion, so there is no doubt that McKenzie's birth allowed me to have back a piece of him and thats such a comforting feeling to have. I never suggest or promote animal pregnancy and none of my animals were ever placed in that circumstance because its not right especially if it's done out of financial gain or ignorance, but i feel this one circumstance, is ok. Not sure if this makes sense.

Zippy was my emotional support pig, best friend, you name it, so I understand how you feel about losing Spud. I'm glad you have a new Spud, personality and all, to be your emotional support pig, and Muffins. It sounds as if Spud did his job for both of you. So hard to let them go, but I do think it helps to get another one. I'm so glad the pregnancy, as unplanned as it was, was a success, and that you are giving homes to both Muffin and McKenzie I hope the three of you become a really tight group Welcome, McKenzie

I'm sorry for your loss of Spud. It's always difficult to lose a beloved pet. However, it's heartwarming to hear that Muffins' pregnancy was successful, and that McKenzie is a healthy and spunky little piglet. It's amazing how new life can bring joy and hope during difficult times. Cherish your memories of Spud and enjoy watching McKenzie grow and thrive. Congratulations on your new addition to the family.
