My older brother is part of a mowing service, so just to help him out we use his company. They're not the most diligent unfortunately, and if it weren't fro my brother we'd use someone else.
I miss that custom cord. When I was working in the city, my workplace was tossing it out because they had no interest in repairing it- I fixed it myself and used it to mow my lawn- and it was so long, I never had to employ extra cords strung together- this baby let me mow my entire yard without having to unplug and look for power closer to the area I was mowing.
That all came to a crashing halt when my wife tried to be helpful and slaughtered that cord. Fixing one end is easy, but once the middle is shredded, it's not worth it.
The latest casualty is just a regular cord, luckily.
I think screwing up must be a spouse thing.

Starting to get more from the garden than just beans. Hubby needs to leave the eggplants longer. I like them young, but not babies. A chipmunk ate our other ripe tomato, so we're going to try netting the plants.

Fantastic! I love the shapes of home grown peppers. But yes, it does look like hub's got a bit overexcited and picked the aubergine a little prematurely!

He said the aubergine was out there for quite a while, and wasn't getting any bigger. I wonder if we planted a variety that gave us small eggplants? I know we looked for just that. We may have forgotten we got it. The plant tag is buried in all the leaves and vines for the cukes, so we won't find that until Fall. I like eggplants with more flesh than seeds. They survive a good grilling better than the regular, bulbous purple ones. We planted four eggplant plants, but I think the cukes took over, and the eggplants aren't producing very much.

Speaking of aubergines, I think I'm making moussaka tonight - with one I bought from the supermarket, I haven't tried to grow them as I suspect our climate would be too cool for them to do well most years. Especially up north.
Hope you enjoy your aubergines, whatever their size!
I should be swimming in courgettes soon though, my family will be delighted (not really, I'm the only courgette lover!).

Once we found tasty ways to cook both eggplants and zucchini on the grill, we could easily keep up with the garden. My mother didn't use either, so I didn't grow up eating them. I also don't cook much indoors during the summer, so we do simple things with them, on the grill. Our first corn of the summer. The corn plants are very happy, this year, as we don't usually get corn to eat until August.

Excellent. I bet the girls are delighted to be getting their mitts on all those husks too!

The white, hanging plants are Rios we've had for 4 years, now. They love heat and humidity, and are blooming like crazy 🤗🤗 I may not like high heat and humidity, but the flowers and veggies definitely do🤗 Yes, the girls loved the corn husks. I put the husks in Pigloo City at bedtime, and there are only a few little pieces left the next morning 🤗

They're really pretty. Our garden loved the weather yesterday. Boiling hot all day and then a heavy downpour in the evening.
Oh and I've just realised it's August!
