A belated Happy Independence Day to anyone celebrating! I'm so behind on what date it is at the moment, I totally missed it. (And nearly just posted this in the June chat thread too...)

Haven't seen Amber for a little while - hope your studies are going well.

Thanks for the 4th remembrance. We had a good time. I will admit we aren't flying our flag because flying it with a Confederate battle flag, a Don't Tread on Me flag, or something that turns it into a MAGA flag, is all the rage with his imbecilic supporters and I don't want to be connected to them. Sad we can't fly our flag without being tarred as one of them 😢

Oops, totally forgot about it myself! It being July and starting this thread, or Independence Day?! My laptop choked yesterday and wouldn't connect to the internet. I ran quite a few checks/ fixes and no cigar - it looked like it was something internal. But I've turned it on this morning and it's working fine again? Hope it stays that way!

It being July, actually. Over here, you can't ever forget Independence Day because an unfortunate number of yahoos always start celebrating as early as June with illegal fireworks.
They're legal in some states, so groups of ill-bred Cro-Magnons make their way across state lines and buy them in bulk, then come back home and litter the neighborhood and disrupt the peace with endless rounds of flashes and bangs. Some of them pay the price by ending up in the hospital, but never enough to dissuade the others.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a professional fireworks display- the key word being professional. Drunken morons firing bottle rockets in random directions don't qualify on any level, I'm afraid.

We're surrounded by the fireworks stores and the professional morons, so you can imagine what it's like here Fireworks aren't legal in Massachusetts, next to us, but I don't know how many Massholes buy fireworks here in New Hampshire, and take them home. They probably do get arrested, if the cops can find them.

Hope this link works- it's a squirrel begging for water! (don't worry, the squirrel gets what it needs and goes away happy!)

That is bizarre, I've been to parks where the squirrels will hover around people with food, and take it from their hands if offered. But never that kind of behaviour.

That squirrel looked as if it were really sickly, possibly totally dehydrated, and desperate for water 😢 They suffer the way people in 3rd world countries suffer during droughts. Can't just turn on the spigot, or buy a bottle at a convenience store. I've never lived far from drinkable water for the animals, but if I did, I would provide water for them.

Poor baby. I hope he got some 😪 Don't worry, he definitely got his fill. I wouldn't dream of posting something upsetting here (or anywhere else).
I got a chuckle out of a random comment on the site where it was originally posted: "You're going to freak when you find out that doing that one act of kindness got you into heaven."

I'm not a religious person, but I totally understand that sentiment 💝 Made a veggie salad with corn, peas, edamame, red onion, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes. I had some apple juice left over from another recipe, found a recipe for apple juice vinaigrette, so that's going on the salad. Low humidity but temps almost at 100F, so we're having cold, cooked shrimp with the salad, for dinner.

Doesn't look like there will be any more grazing for the guys this year- this is my wife's handiwork:
She manages to annihilate our lawn almost every year; she was too busy to do it last year so that was a plus. Unfortunately she's up to her old tricks again being stuck at home, so she can cause lots of damage again.
I don't understand what she does, but you'd think she would have learned after repeating this mistake year after year.
(also, if I knew she was doing this, I would stop her- but this happens when I'm not around.)

Oh crikey, it's been dry there hasn't it - the lawn would definitely benefit from having better coverage instead of being shorn!
Maybe you can just water a small area at the side and see if you can get it to bounce back a bit quicker?! I'm sure you'll make it up to the boys, but I can understand your disappointment.
Love the colourful salad, 3piggles, and it sounds perfect for your weather.

Baz, looks as if she's mowing it way too short Lawns go dormant in the heat of summer, unless they're watered. If they're cut too short, they go dormant even faster. Watering would help, if you're allowed to. Water at night after everyone has showered, etc. If you can, check the lawnmower, and raise the blade a good inch. Grass should be1.5-2" high. Give the lawn a chance. Otherwise, you have to wait until Autumn to get green grass, and then not for very long. Even if you only water a section for grazing, you'll get that.

We have a service that mows the lawn; my wife never mows. In fact, she attempted it once and managed to cut a custom-made extension cord in half, so I forbid her to ever mow again.
We've been getting plenty of rain and the lawn was fine- until she got out a seed spreader and put something in it that destroys grass. One day the lawn was healthy and fine and 24 hours later it looked like the Apocalypse.
On a side note, my wife managed to cut another extension cord in half this past weekend when she tried to use an electric branch trimmer.

It doesn't sound like she's getting put off by her garden massacres, it sounds more like she's determined to keep trying until she nails it! I hope she can return to work soon, while your house is still in one piece!

Garden massacres! Love it! Sorry, Baz, but it's a great description 🤗
Ah, didn't know you had a lawn service. What was she trying to kill, and did she kill that, or everything else? Sounds as if you need to check for anything she can use against your poor lawn 😢
I hope the latest extension cord casualty wasn't a custom cord. Those are expensive to replace.
In the same vein, hubby mowed the lawn one time, and the mower threw a rock through the car window. Got that replaced. Week later, he did it again. Our insurance agent asked him if he'd ever considered moving the car before he moved. I told him too, but somehow the idea never took root. We laugh about it now, but back then, I didn't find it at all funny.
