We had a little snow here today. It came down pretty heavily but didn't stick. I wanted it to stick and look pretty, but it was a little too warm.

I totally understand. I love snow, especially just after it snowed, before the snow is disturbed or dirty. We still have some, despite over 1.6" of rain, and temps around 40F. The ground is still frozen in most places, though, and even the ice in the pathways didn't all melt. I hope you get some good snow, Seffy

We're just getting rained on constantly here, Storm Christoph has caused a lot of disruption over the country. Lots of flood alerts with the rain and all the melted snow. I think today will see the worst of it behind us.
Looking forward to spring! I was looking up a plant I like yesterday, so have some nice colourful and inspiring ads on here at least!

Had to work (from home, at least for now) yesterday, but kept an eye on the inauguration festivities throughout the day. What a huge feeling of relief that it went off without a hitch.

I didn't watch the inauguration, just because I'm very rarely around a TV long enough to watch anything, during the day. I'm still hoping former president Dumpster will be brought up on criminal charges regarding the insurgency at the Capitol building. That man needs to be restrained from inciting any more riots, and from continuing to use taxpayer funds for his lifestyle. Ugh to Christoph, I hope some of the Brits I know who live where it always floods, aren't getting flooded out, again Seffy, are you going to be allowed to work from home for a longer period? I know you were worried about being forced to go back to the office, when your husband was at high risk for the virus. Any word on being able to continue to work from home?

First up is his second impeachment trial, then probably the Southern District of New York will come after him for numerous financial crimes. Let's not forget E. Jean Carroll and her rape accusation against tRump; she has DNA that allegedly belongs to him and I'd love to see that trial happen. He's heading for a world of hurt soon.

I certainly hope he is. With a democratic majority in the senate, I think his impeachment will go through, this time. Last time, the republican majority basically refused to impeach one of their own. It was a power play, politics, not an impeachment trial. They didn't even have a trial, and Mitch McConnell made it very clear he didn't intend to even recognize the democrats attempts to smear republicans, because he didn't have to! Mitt Romney and a couple of other republicans spoke out in favor of impeachment, and I'm sure they paid for it. I just hope, if he's impeached, even without any other charges succeeding against him, his supporters will get the message that it's not safe for them to continue with their idiotic rampage, and I think they have many other bad things planned

Agree---they really need to hold trump accountable for once in his life.
As far as work, my boss said they were going to extend my WFH status for another 30 days, so that would be Feb. 1. Husband is scheduled to get his vaccine on Feb. 3, but who knows if it will be available when we show up. Like everything else under the previous administration, the roll-out has been spotty at best.
I'm just so burned out right now that I wish I could take early retirement and be done with it.

Sorry you're feeling so exhausted, Seffy. It would be great if you could work from home until your husband's been vaccinated, given that even if it's delayed, it will probably only be a matter of another month or so. It'd be some peace of mind for you going back. I really hope this year doesn't take too long to start turning around for you.

Sorry this mess is getting to you. I'm not surprised, trying to get through a pandemic with a government that didn't care or even really acknowledge there was a problem 😢 I hope, since you have as date for hubby's shot, your boss will extend you remote status until hubby gets his booster. All things considered, I'm surprised your boss isn't more accommodating, but he did extend it for another 30 days. Keeping all digits crossed 🤞 I bought this jacket when daughter was in high school, and she graduated from high school in 2000. I've kept it all these years, hoping to lose enough weight to where it again 🤗 It's very warm 🤗

Oh it looks very cosy indeed, and great that you can wear it again! That's a long time to keep hold of it - I bet you'll have that in mind when you have a clear out and it'll make it harder for you to move stuff on because you know they can become useful again after a couple of decades!

Thank you both. Having a piggy illness on top of everything else, especially after losing my special boy Harold just two months ago, is not helping.
People around here still don't take the virus seriously (this is heavily trump country, and my boss is a huge supporter even after everything that has happened). We actually had to close the lobbies of two of our branches last week---not because of the community spread, but because we have so many frontline staff either sick with Covid or exposed right now, that there aren't enough people to take care of customers!
ETA: Love the jacket!!

That's awful, Seffy, especially that people don't learn when the problem is inconveniencing them. I'm in Trump Central, too, so I know what you mean. We won't go in any business in this or two surrounding towns, as they refuse to wear masks or enforce the ordinance All the big Trump flags are still flying from flag poles around here, and the signs are still out on lawns Having a sick loved one is always hard, and losing one, especially that special one, is even harder. I'm lucky that, after losing Oodles, I found the baby girls, and could give Noodles some cage mates to enjoy. But my Zippy was that special pig. He died years ago, and I still get teary when I think about him. Huge hugs. I know how you feel

Hello all, I know...i am dropping by once in a blue moon. After spending 2 weeks back home with my husband i am since the 2nd January back up north. It was nice to spend a few a few days home, even though i was extremely busy during those days. I think i had only 5 days of actually relaxing, all the other days were loooong studying days. I had my last exam on the 8th of January, and I have passed it. The project that I was working on (the one with hydrogels for tissue engineering), even though I didn't managed to reach the final goal, was graded with a top mark. There was a lot of work invested in that project, many weekends and long 12h-days in the lab. I have today started my thesis...a 6 months long project, continuing my previous work on hydrogels. A few things were improved, for example I have now an additional supervisor that is in the office most of the time and he is there in case that I have any day-to-day questions. We will also focus on only one type of PVA and only 3 PVA-gelatin ratios...so, hopefully all the goals will be reached now. They have to be reached actually I am both hopeful and overwhelmed and scared about the amount of work ahead of me. The very good news, is that I will be done (including my defense) by middle of August.

That is wonderful about the test score and about being done by mid August! You have worked extremely hard, and I'm glad it's recognized. It's also great that you now have a second supervisor who is actually available, and that the field of study for your thesis has been reduced to a workable amount. I hope this all pays off in a very big way, once you finish your studies! It's great to hear from you. I wish you could have spent more time relaxing, enjoying the city and your husband, but it's great that you won't have too many more visits that are spent studying. Congratulations on the great grade

Great to see you Amber, and hear how you're getting on! Congratulations on passing your last exam and it sounds like you're in the final stretch now, so hopefully that thought of finishing in August will power you through all the graft. I'm glad you have access to another supervisor, not just the rubbish one. Good luck with it all and don't forget to look after yourself and take some down time too - sometimes brains need to breathe a little to do their best work!
