Well, January went by quite quickly? We have another month (at least) of lockdown ahead of us here! I'm looking forward to the weather getting a bit milder. And to pancake day!

It seems the older we get, the faster time goes by. It's already been a year since the pandemic hit!

It does. When I was little, every day seemed so long, especially when waiting for a birthday or Christmas. That changed to never being able to keep up with everything we needed to do. We're retired, and can finally fit everything we need or want to do into the time we have, but time is still passing quickly.
We got 6-8" of snow. The wind was strong enough that we had a foot on the windward side of the house, and bare ground on the leeward side. So glad it wasn't concrete snow like some of the storms.
Happy February, everyone 🤗

No, sorry My back hasn't been cooperating for days, but I'll try to make one before the snow is all gone. More snow Friday afternoon, but I don't think we're supposed to get too much. Our temps are back in the 30sF, which is nice after the bitter cold. It's also nice to have gotten some snow, and to be forecast to get more, after an almost snowless January. We've had severe drought conditions for the last 3 summers, so we really need the snow

We're retired, and can finally fit everything we need or want to do into the time we have, but time is still passing quickly. I thought about this last night around 1:30 am (I usually wake up for about 2 hours every night, so I have time to reflect) and if you asked me how long my childhood lasted, I would have said about twenty years. I know it was only about 6 or 7 years (I'm counting as far back as I remember to the time I stopped getting toys for Christmas) but it seemed there was no end to the summers, and the weekends lasted four or five days. I'm not complaining, either. I also can't believe my daughter just turned 15. She's not as nearly as much fun as she used to be, now that Mom & Dad aren't cool to hang out with anymore. I'm complaining about that!

Hope your daughter had a good birthday.
With our restrictions, our teenagers have hardly been able to go out and see friends over the last year, so they're stuck with our company, like it or not!
Hope your back is feeling better soon, 3piggles, snowman or no!

Peanut isn't as much fun as she used to be, either, and she's going to be 11 at the end of May. I think it has a lot to do with their friends, and what their friends consider cool. Our daughter didn't care if we were cool. We had the money, so if she wanted to eat out or get some clothes, she needed us. I guess I was cool, though, now that I think of it. I had the Jeep Wrangler, and her friends thought that was the coolest vehicle I also covered for one of her friends, whose mother wouldn't let her leave the town, so the girls could all go to the next town and get burgers Bean, I don't think your kids would shun you, even if there hadn't been any lockdowns and a pandemic. Your kids seem to feel fulfilled with the things that are really important to them, so even if they'd like more computer or gaming time, it's not a terrible loss when they don't get it. You definitely did parenting right

Hope your daughter had a good birthday. Meh, she's had better. Last year was a trip to some outrageous ice cream parlor called The Sugar Factory, where kids are served a $35 gallon drink filled with gummy candy. This year she just talked on the phone with friends, and relatives dropped off presents and left quickly, as she was quarantining for the trumpvirus at the time!

Lockdown birthdays are definitely much quieter and less sociable. Most of us have loads more birthdays to come, and I know I'm not the only one who's stopped desiring any kind of fuss about it now anyway. But I know when you're at that age, it's harder to see the grand scheme of things over what you're missing out on there and then.
Thanks 3piggles, I'm going to tell my kids you said that and wait for the list of complaints they want to feed back to you haha! Sounds like you did pretty well by your daughter as a teen!

My husband turned 70 last August. It was a very quiet day; his son called and they chatted for a bit. In the past, I would take him to his favorite seafood restaurant out of town---our one big treat for the year. Instead, I ordered lobster bisque and crabcakes from a company in Maine, and cooked them myself. Didn't turn out too badly, but it was definitely not the same. I guess it was the thought that counted. He got his first Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday. So far, he has only had a mild headache and a little soreness in that arm that went away the next day. I can't get mine for a while yet.

Glad your husband's jab went to plan, it must be a weight off your minds knowing he'll soon be far less vulnerable.
I imagine he was very happy with the effort you made for his birthday, even if he couldn't do what he usually does. I think those kinds of thoughtful gestures are the things that really show people they matter (not that you won't be delighted to hopefully be able to return to his favourite restaurant for his next birthday!).

My hubby turned 70 this past August, too We had daughter and family up for a cookout, outside. Vic burned the short ribs he was cooking. I have no idea what got into him. I bought him a couple of really nice string art pictures to make, as he really likes those, and it gives him something fun to do. My birthday was in October, and it was just another day. I don't really like to go out, so we ordered Chinese take out. At our age, birthdays aren't a big deal. I'll turn 70 this October, but I doubt we'll do anything. I might have him make those bbq short ribs over again, and do them right this time Glad you hubby got his first shot, and I hope it won't be too long before he gets his second one.

We are getting clobbered with snow at the moment. Predictions are calling for up to a foot of the fluffy white stuff.
And what the heck is going on in Texas? "Austin in lock-down...worst winter storm in a generation," one news source reported. (Climate change, much?)

One of the things I like most about they lunar new year is that the NHL is always on the sports channel. Or maybe this is the only time I really watch TV It's not a sport I really follow but I enjoy watching it. I learnt this year that Las Vegas and Florida have ice hockey teams. It is surprising for me that these places would consider this sport. I presume there aren't many local players. And it can't be much fun for the fans in Florida having to dress for the cold rink when it's not so cold outside. Or maybe the fan comfort in the US rinks is way above other countries.

Yesterday i was in the basement lab for the whole 12h, except a short lunch break, which i again spent actually searching for information. When i finally left the lab, i was surprised to wake up in a winter wonderland...some good 5cm of fresh snow covering the campus. Couldn't even see where the sidewalk was ending and the street was starting. The weather was mild, so after a horrible monday i decided to have a walk around.

I'm a snow lover, so love when it snows, even if I have to get out and shovel. Driving isn't always very good, but it's as if someone placed a blanket over the earth, and everything is so clean and white I said the same thing, Shades. The ice hockey is indoors, as it never gets cold enough to have it outdoors, but in all fairness to the southern states, ice hockey is played indoors here, too. We do have a pond hockey league that plays in a flooded parking lot, so players and spectators get the real, freeze their tuckuses off experience. All the major and minor league hockey teams play indoors, even in Canada, so the paying spectators don't have to freeze. It's also a lot easier to run a Zamboni around a flat rink than a pond. Enjoy your snow, Amber

We had several inches of snow, possibly even a foot or two last night! When I got into work, there were only a few of us everywhere in the building, so the workload was a bit thin today. I had to cover a lot more ground, but the pace was relatively easy. I imagine the snow kept most of my co-workers at home today, although the sun shone in the afternoon and melted much of the roads clear for driving.

Snow for you lot, but ours has gone and we've even been seeing double figures in the temperatures. I'm glad we had some snow this year, it was fun. But I'm also really happy it's getting nicer to hang about outside! I'm thinking about getting my veggie seeds going inside so I'm ready to plant out in April.

The snow is almost gone here...wherever it is left it's actually that slush... a horror to walk through. We are back to "normal" danish winter, meaning constant wind from all directions and very fine constant rain. Over the weekend we are expecting around 10-11C during the day.
Another cold spell is expected though at the beginning of March here
