Hi! I am wondering if any of you would be willing to send me little video clips of your piggies running for cover. You know when you open the door and they instinctively get under something or into something in case you are a predator?
It’s a difficult assignment to explain, but I am going to dash under things in public like a guinea pig would. I need videos of piggies diving for cover for it to work, though, and my last piggie died (at an old age, after a happily spoiled life), so I cannot film her. I can’t access the laptop with all of my videos of her, either.
I don’t know if you can post video clips here, if you can’t, does anyone know of any videos like that posted somewhere online? My googling has been unsuccessful, since most videos are of the pigs after they’ve realized they’re not being hunted and come back out.
Thank you in advance for anyone willing to help!

Hi, and welcome to Wheekers - your video sounds fun!
I recently posted a time lapse of my pigs outdoors, and there are a couple of points where they all dash for cover at the same time, so I assume something spooked them (or spooked one of them and the rest of them followed suit!). But yes, as with the clips you've found, if they are relaxed domestic pigs, it probably won't take them long to come back out!
I'd have thought there'd be plenty of people posting fairly long videos on youtube, where at some point, a pig's been startled. But I appreciate this may be time consuming to search for!
Also, I hope you can manage to access your laptop at some point, so you can enjoy the videos of your much loved girl.

Thank you, Bean! So much! I need videos by Sunday morning, and I’m getting worried. I’m so relieved to have at least one!
Anyone else willing to film their piggies as they walk into the room? I would think it’d only take a minute and would really help so I can do this project.

Hello and welcome to Wheekers I don't have any videos, and mine rarely run for cover. I hope you get at least another video before the Sunday deadline

I would but mine don't skitter much either - they're more likely to rush out when someone comes in the room, hoping for treats! I love that. Mine did too, but I swear, even when one would be making that "come play with me" noise, I'd go over and sometimes she'd instinctively run for cover, then come back out right away because she remembered it was just me. The first place we lived they didn't have a separate room, so no door. I moved and the one that lived the longest (I think at least 9 years, maybe 10?) spent the last 2 years in a room with a noisy door that I had to keep closed because of severe household allergies. It took her a little while to get used to it, and she'd scatter every time I opened it... and then immediately run back to say hi since she realized it was me.

I keep my guinea pigs outside in a hutch with run there still young and hide when my neighbours are mowing the lawn, building something or whenever there cat comes to watch or hearing a siren, motorbike,A few mins after they must realise it’s normal sounds as they come out within a few mins

I've never kept my pigs outside, so they're used to indoor noises. I should think, just as it is with indoor pigs, outdoor pigs get used to the sights and sounds that happen regularly, and after a few flights to safety, realizing nothing happened to them, will stop getting spooked by those sounds, or even by the cat. Might not be as calm around a different cat coming over to check them out, but they should get used to the regular cat.
