Hello there,
I’m new to this forum. I’m not new to owning Guinea pigs. I had a pair that passed away unexpectedly back when I was 16. I’m now 22 and as I l rent I had to wait for my landlord to give permission finally 3 months later she did. However. He wants them to be kept outside. Was able to get a pair earlier. Which is fine here in England .They have a very large hutch and are currently settling in there new enclosure
Trying to add a picture from my mobile but there’s no option to add attachments. Is there a way to add pictures as I want to show pictures

Hello and welcome to Wheekers I use Tapatalk. It's an app available on Play Store, and it's free. There is a premiere version that costs, but I haven't needed that in the several years I've used Tapatalk. You can access forums, so access Wheekers. Then you can upload pics to whatever thread you want. I hope it works. I'm not very technical, or probably good at explaining these things. We'd love to see your piggies

also if you guys are wondering where I got the name ideas from basically from my favourite tv show Doctor Who as Rusty is a good dalek ( into the dalek) and Pete is a short version of Peter (my favourite doctor is Peter Capaldi) Pete just sounds better than Peter for a Guinea pig. Also at the moment the white bit on Pete the Guinea pig. Kinda look like eyebrows.

I did start watching the newer episodes, but I only got as far as the first few episodes of David Tennant. So, I wouldn't have gotten the name connection.

There are 12 series just since 2005. I got into it in 2014 when Peter Capaldi was the doctor (I was still in school back then) and then I went back in 2016 to catch up on the past series 1-7 when there was no series aired that year and before the special and series 10 came out. So I remember Peter Capaldis era the most along with the recent series. Funny thing is I don’t mind David tenants era, he is my least favourite doctor but I didn’t name them after his era, I find David a way more common name compared to Pete. (Same with Chris & Matt and Jodie wouldn’t fit as it’s a female name)They are males). Anyway this is the hutch Pete and Rusty live in I do have a lot of hay and heat pads inside. For when it gets colder. (Meant to post it yesterday)

Welcome to Wheekers! Your new pigs are lovely and their names are great - I liked them straight away but even more so knowing the origin! I haven't really seen many of Peter Capaldi's episodes (I've mainly seen the Ecclestone and Tenant years), but I'm sure I'd like his portrayal.
I have Reginald and Bertie who have the first names of Jeeves & Wooster. The other two, Tissue and Biscuit, already had names when they came to us, but I know Tissue was so named as she's a white Abyssinian so was thought to look like a scrunched up Tissue!
Good call getting permission from your landlord too, so many people seem not to bother and then end up having to find them another home when they're discovered. Oh and hello from a fellow England-dweller - I'm up in Yorkshire.

Nice names for them all Yeah but it’s the right thing to do to get permission if you live in rented accommodation.

I have several friends in your area, and tend to get a lot of the local news for the Reading area Also, my husband has been there, many years ago, but he also brought home a lot about the Reading area Nice hutch. I have no idea what the weather is like for them, but I know some people who had outdoor hutches wrapped them in the winter, to block the cold wind from getting through. Basically just used a tarp or something as a windbreak, wrapped around the cage with enough open to let in the air. I'm sure, if you've had outdoor pigs before, you have your own ideas

That’s nice Weather isn’t that Bad to be fair here either I do have hutch covers and Fill the inside with hay, Rusty &Pete really like being together and snuggle together. I might Also pick up some heat pads. The only Thing is there not using the ramps. Are guinea pigs scared of ramps?

Guinea pigs need to feel safe on the ramps. I had one enclosed with these: THESE They come in two sizes, one for hamsters/gerbils, and one for ferrets/guinea pigs. Between the ridges in the tubes, the light coming through the plastic, and the air holes, they were perfect, and the pigs loved them. I did try some PVC pipe, but even with holes cut for light, it was too dark for them. They wouldn't use it. Back to the plastic tubes

I thought plastic wasn’t safe for rodents as they might end up chewing also the tubes don’t look big enough or is that just the picture?

Someone gave me a boxed set of Dr. Who DVDs, so I can try to catch up all the way to end of Capaldi when I get a chance. I have seen a little of Capaldi; he does seem like a lot of fun. I'm across the pond, so I'm unfamiliar with the weather in your area. Is it okay to have your guys outside all the time, even in winter? I know you mentioned heating pads, so they won't freeze. I have my own guys outside during nice weather, but our climate over here is not good for them to be outside all the time. It can get terribly cold or unbearably hot sometimes.

Just curios Are Jeeves & Woosters names from another tv show or film or a band?. P G Wodehouse wrote a series of comic novels set in the 1930s featuring Jeeves and Wooster - a loveable but gormless upper class twit who's always getting himself into sticky situations, and his highly intelligent (and cunning) valet who always saves the day. They were later made into a popular tv series starring Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry. Both have amused me no end!

You should defiantly if you want to when you have time. When you say across the pond i assume you mean America. Here in my part of U.K. we rarely get snow. The last time it snowed was 2012. It rarely gets under 0C. As long as they have tons of hay and each other and hutch covers etc...Here it’s autumn and it’s going to be inbetween 11-15C occasionally reaches 20C in autumn Isn’t the general rule with tempature if your cold your pigs are too cold, if your warm your pigs are too warm I

I think a big issue with guinea pigs is that they don't tolerate fluctuations in temperature very well. So as long as they have extra protection at night when the temperatures drop or if it gets really cold, you should be able to head off any issues with that.
Up my way it gets a lot colder than that!

I saw, in an earlier post, you said you thought plastic wouldn't be good for piggies. It's fine. Yes, they will chew on it, just as they chew on the plastic pigloos, but it doesn't seem to do them any harm. It's also very durable and washable. Inclosing the ramp in a way they can still see everything around them gives them a feeling of safety. Otherwise, taking that first step is too scary. I really liked the Dr. Who era with Rose and David Tennant. It wasn't that he was a better Dr. Who. It was the context of that series, addressing more about the his relationship with his traveling mates, rather than just what monsters they were going to fight, this time. Matt Smith was my least favorite, of those I saw. I never say Rowan Atkins. I also didn't even know Huge Grant played Dr. Who? Tom Baker was one of my favorites. I thought Peter Capaldi was one of the classiest Dr. Who's. I also liked John Simm as The Master, and for anyone who watches Midsomer Murders, Annette Badland played an alien in one series. I thought she was great Sadly, we no longer get Dr. Who, and haven't for years, so I haven't seen the newer Doctors. Jodie Foster was Dr. Who when we moved and lost that channel.

Thanks for giving me that information. To they get scared if they think there going to fall then as the ramps have no sides. ? Makes sense, all eras of any TV series or film has good and bad and great points. It’s impossible to have a perfect series or film. With Doctor Who the reason Peter Capaldi is my favourite was because of his overall character development throughout his three series. I also enjoyed his sarcasm and humour a lot especially with the companions. I also like how they tied back his appearance from when he appeared in tenants era (fires of Pompeii)At time of airing his doctor was very relatable as I was struggling a lot in my GCSEs years and then a little on college to). Your least favourite is the same as my mums. I can’t comment on Rowan Atkins. I didn’t even know who that was before. If you’ve seen up to Peter Capaldis era, the only doctor you’ve missed is Jodie Whitaker who’s the current Doctor. I didn’t get into the show myself till quite late due to living in diffenrent countries before moving to England . As for Rusty well Rusty was a unique dalek from 12s era as he was a good dalek and the guinea pig I called Rusty is like a ginger colour with a tiny white spot (not obvious on the photo) I don’t know technical colour names) with the Guinea pig Pete he’s got black brown and white eyebrows. He also looks like he’s got white eyebrows and looks like he has a crest although earlier I noticed he had fur growing out like spiky near the end of his body. I guess I won’t know there breeds till they get bigger. If you guys have any ideas feel free to mention. I thought Pete might be a crested till I saw the slightly spiky fur, I think the fur that looks like eyebrows are just part of his unique colour, Can crested guinea pigs be longhaired. ? As for the tubes and ramps I don’t have any plastic ones only wooden and other ones would they work? They’ve been eating veg confidently recently. Would veg Mabye help if it was left on the ramp. I’ve noticed Pete likes nibbling at the ramp, (Rusty goes for the toys that can be chewed) sometimes even though they do have other things to chew. Do guinea pigs teeth when there young? Like how puppies do sometimes)
