So, I haven't updated you in a long time. The skinny pig is doing well, but unfortunately Cosmo passed away on Monday. He got up to a healthy weight and maintained it for a few months, but then it started dropping again. He kind of plateaued for a while and then he started losing weight again. I took him to the vet a couple of times. Once he had a head tilt and the vet thought he had an inner ear infection, so he was on meds for 2 weeks. It did help, but he kept losing weight. He ate well, but the last couple of weeks it really went downhill and Sunday night he was very weak. I checked on him during the night, but in the morning he was very weak and wouldn't eat, so I made the decision to have him put to sleep that afternoon. It absolutely broke my heart, but I knew it was the right thing to do. I have no idea how old he was, but I know he lived the last 9 months of his life being happy and spoiled. I will really miss him.

The picture is taking of him lying on his back. Those are his testicles and bum, with the hole on the right side. I’m not sure what she gave him, but she’s trying her best. I’m currently fostering 5 guinea pigs, so it’s hard for me to take him too, but I will if she thinks it’s best. I wonder if the holes could be a bite since the owner said he was fighting with her other guinea pigs? The owner just dropped him off at a pet store, didn’t say anything about the infection, his name, age or anything....just that she couldn’t take the fighting anymore. The pet store called the sanctuary and was hoping she could help him. I’ll do an update in the other thread about all the pigs I have. I just don’t have much time with taking care of them all, work and what else goes on.

A guinea pig was just surrendered today, when I was at the sanctuary, where I help out. He has two small holes just above his anus and there's pus and a little blood coming out when you squeeze it. The middle part seems swollen (is that bump the penis??). I have never seen anything like it and I'm wondering what it could be. We flushed out the holes and the sanctuary owner gave him some anti biotics. She will keep an eye on him and take him to the vet if the penicillin doesn't work. I tried taking a picture. It's his bum and just above you can see a hole on the right side. There's a smaller hole on the left as well.

Interesting. I'm in BC, so I don't know if buying hay from Ontario will work for me, but it's good to have all this information.

Nice products and very reasonable prices. I would also love to see some piggy pictures 😀

The barrier was broken down when I got home, but they were both fine, so I guess somebody was just overly anxious to visit the other. There's a lot of squeeling from the skinny pig, but Cosmo isn't hurting him. I think he's just excited to have a friend.

I just decided to separate them while I'm at work. I just don't want to worry while being away for 8 hours. They can still see each other, so hopefully they will be fine.

There were no problems overnight. Skinny loves his snuggle bag and Cosmo even joined him there. There's no aggression, so I'll leave them together while I'm at work. They have a 2x4 grid c&c cage with houses and stuff. It's the biggest I can have in my apartment.

The lady at the rescue got a skinny pig in last week, so I decided to knit him a sweater. I went out there today and he modelled a couple of different ones..haha. It's my first time making something like this and although there's room for improvement, I'm pretty happy with the outcome. It's minus 12 degrees C here today, so although he is inside, he still needs some extra warmth. Merry Christmas to everybody!!! Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted

I named him Cosmo. Yesterday was his first day weighing over 900 grams!!! How do you foster and not get so attached you don't really want to give them back? It's so hard, but when it's time, it's time and then I can help another little one.

You're right. You need some rules, but sometimes they just seem so unreasonable.

It's similar in Canada, but there's lots of rules about the inside of your condo as well. It really is ridiculous. If you're not bothering anybody else, then who cares what you do in your own home. He's ok in the snuggle bag, but for some reason he was a little spooked when I came home from work. He got better later on though and he's hanging out with me right now. Here's a couple of pictures from last night <3 Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Unfortunately it's very common here to have strata bylaws/rules for apartment buildings. Some make sense - like the size limit of a dog or how many cats you can have, but some are stupid. I'm on the strata (not sure what it's called in other countries) council and knew I would have a hard time getting the bylaw changed, which is why it took me a long time to even bring it up. We have huge problems in my city with pet friendly rentals. It's very hard to find and since the house prices have skyrocketed it's impossible for most people to buy a house. They then depend on renting and many landlords won't allow any pets. Some people have to surrender their pets to find a place to live. It's really bad, but there's a good advocacy group working on changing it and I think the provincial government is looking at it. We will see. Most rules apply to cats and dogs, but when you have people on councils that don't love animals, it's a struggle to make changes with any type of pet.
On a happy note. The little guy snuggled with me in his little bag for two hours last night! It was very cute.

It's a ridiculous rule, but not that uncommon here. You should have heard what one person said. She basically was afraid that people were going to bring in dogs (in particular pit bulls), because they're mammals and people could interpret the new bylaw as them being small caged mammals!! It was an insane argument. Even at the meeting a couple of people were ok with guinea pigs and hamsters, but rats and mice are pests in their mind, so they're not welcome. What can you say?? They actually were afraid that a rat or mouse would escape their cage and roam the building. The whole thing was bizarre and it was because of those kinds of reactions, that I was worried if it would be a yes vote and I worked hard to convince people of how harmless guinea pigs are. I own my apartment and feel that whatever I do here is nobody's business if it doesn't affect them or their lives. Me having a guinea pig will not affect anybody else but me in this building. I've lost sleep over this whole thing and even last night I had a hard time sleeping. I was just so happy and relieved.
