I know what you mean, I end up using it that way too, but really I have usually *not* laughed out loud, so not only is it a silly thing to write anyway, but it's also a LIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!
That's it. I'm going to try to stop using it so kick me if you see me say it, d'accord?!

I think I will write *chuckle* at the end of my sentances which make me chuckle instead of laugh out loud! But I do sometimes laugh very loudly!

I bet you laugh like a demented parrot, Donna!
I like your *chuckle*, it makes me chuckle! Really! I'm not just faking it!

I love the word chuckle - it's one of those words that really aptly describes the action.
LOL is driving me a bit mad - I find myself writing it constantly now and even caught myself about to use it in a conversation recently - that is just not good. Maybe we should have a competition to see who can avoid using it the longest!

I would lose instantly. I even use a lot of English words in my conversation, because that's the language I use most in a day

Fair play but I'm in! I feel my usage of exclamation marks will be increasing until I find other coping mechanisms...! *thinks*

My automatic response to this? I'll let you guess. ;)
Although I really did *chuckle*, hehe. I do use rofl, lmao, pmsl, and lol way too often. I shall join Treen's cause; how long do we abstain? 40 days?
As for emoticons, sometimes they are handy. There have been times when I would have taken things people have said in a negative way, (being a somewhat impulsive person) but a simple smiley face would just take the edge off, and remind me it was meant in a friendly way.
I prefer using just the straight symbols, as in here. :p The ones I really can't stand, are the 'bouncy' one, and the 'strutting' one. Horrors! :C

If we have a contest to see who can avoid using the short term for ''laughing out loud'' I think I'd win. I don't think I've used it once in the entire 22 months I've been on this forum. But I do like smilies! Sometimes I use the laughing one if I think somethings funny, because I'm not actually laughing out loud. Usually something someone said just made me smile.
