Licking and stimulating the blood flow probably also made it bother Harley, so he considered it an invasion. Not surprised he chewed it off, though hope it doesn't get infected. Does the vet still need to remove the root to keep it from regrowing, or just sterilize that spot?

Harley is doing well after his procedure. They did need to remove the base and apparently it was fairly deep. He has a line of stitches almost 2 inches long. Poor guy is slamming around the house with that darn lampshade collar. Luckily he has a laid back personality or I can't imagine how much it would bother him. He's knocked all the kids' pictures and magnets off the fridge too many times to count. By Saturday, Sunday at the latest I think he can probably take the collar off.

We call them satellite dishes, lol. I don't think the animals find that as funny as we do. Actually, I know they don't. Too bad they don't know not to bother those places, but it's like telling kids not to scratch an itch. Hope Harley got free this weekend!

Guess you didn't see my fb post last weekend! Harley got the collar mostly off and ripped out his stitches while we were at a movie with the kids. I ended up taking him to the emergency clinic and they put staples in and gave him a much more durable collar. I gave him a break from it Sunday night and hub was supposed to be watching him. Well, he got 2 of the staples out before I caught him. Hub got an earful for that one! Back to the vet the next morning for 2 replacement staples. They can come out this coming Monday and we are all counting the days! I can't tell you how many times I've been rammed in the rear by that collar! He doesn't have any idea of depth perception, etc. with it on. Ahh, it's been a long week!

You and Harley have had a bit of a time of it! I was in the pet shop yesterday buying hay and saw some proper sturdy stiffened fabric 'lampshades' and thought of you!
Fingers crossed for you both until Monday...

I could have used a new one, weesilvie. Harley's crashed into so much stuff with his, that one part of it splintered into about 7 pieces, but I was able to tape it together. Now he looks really funny! Thank goodness tomorrow's the day. Not sure if he'll be happier or I will!

Ahhhh! I stupidly let Harley take a little break from his lampshade collar on Sunday, because he hates the thing. Staples were to come out the next day, so I figured how much damage could he do if I didn't catch him in time? Well, apparently a lot. Sure enough, he licked all but 2 staples out and opened up his wound again. Since it was close to being healed, I didn't take him to the emergency clinic again, just closed it with some butterfly bandages and took him in Monday morning to have the vet look at it. He said to leave it open and let it heal on its own, but 7 more days with the collar (which is taped in about a million places by now). NOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I can't wait for this to be over! Poor Harley, all he wants to do is lick his plushy baby!

We've been talking about getting another golden retriever puppy, but since I work with a rescue group I wanted to adopt, not go to a breeder. I found a sweet little 16 week golden/shepherd mix who was found out in the country off the highway when she was 8 weeks. She's lucky a good samaritan found her and got her to a vet's office. She looks pretty much like a golden, with a bit of black on her nose, ears, back and tail. We took the dogs out to meet her Friday to make sure everyone got along, and then a lady from this rescue group (different than mine) brought her to us on Saturday. Technically we're her fosters until she's spayed at 6 months and then they'll release her to us. We named her Jessie and she is the cutest thing. I almost forgot how much fun (and work) a puppy is. I had to bring the baby gate back out because she loves the kids' toys, of course! Here are a few pictures from this weekend:

Well, the Fowler household continues to expand! One of the animal shelters put a plea on facebook, needing to find homes for 4 cats. Usually people step in and take them when these sort of things pop up, but no one had volunteered and no rescue groups had stepped in yet. I saw a little 2 year old tortie girl, only 6 lbs (itty, bitty like my sweet Crystal who passed in February), and I knew I had to get her. Luckily hub said okay, I really thought he'd put up more of a fight than he did I went to go get her Monday, but she wasn't spayed so I couldn't take her yet - big let down. They did the surgery yesterday and I'll go get her this afternoon. We're going to name her Sophie. Ellis, our 13 year old cat, is so laid back he won't be bothered by having another cat. Kasey, the 6 year old we adopted in March, will definitely be happy to have someone around who still has lots of energy (Ellis is rather lazy these days). I ordered a new cat tower that's much bigger than the others I have, and plan to put it in the living room by a window looking out on the backyard. Might look a bit funny in the living room, but whatever makes the furkids happy, right?! I will post pics this weekend...

Things are moving very slowly with Sophie. She's the 6th cat I've had and have never had much of an issue with introducing new cats to each other and the dogs. Sophie's a bit different, must be the "tortitude" I've read about, lol! Since she was just spayed, she had to stay in a room by herself to heal, but now she has the run of the upstairs and isn't too sure about coming downstairs. If she even sees the other cats, she puffs up and starts hissing. Ellis went upstairs to check things out and she really went after him, poor guy! We normally keep the litter boxes in the garage so I'd like to get her comfortable with the downstairs soon so I can remove the litter box I have upstairs for her. It's only a matter of time before one of the kids knocks it over, I'm sure. Will try to post pics later today...

Aw, sounds as if she's a bit unsure of her new home. if you don't know her history, she may have reason to be fearful of other cats. I hope the others show her it's okay to join their family, and she can relax.
Yep, that upstairs litter box is an accident waiting to happen!!! Don't blame you for wanting to move it to the garage with the others.

If it is any help love, I have introduced new kitties to my house hold in the past, not so long ago actually, a poor little puss was brought by a neighbor from Lomdon because she couldnt find a home for him. Anyway, will tell you about that another time but first of all there were a few spats but now they just get on with each other.
