My sweet, sweet Bean has crossed the bridge and I'm just devestated. She wasn't eating and seemed to be getting worse, so I got an appetite stimulant from the vet on Friday. By Saturday morning, she still wasn't eating so I took her in and got her a shot of IV fluids to help get some nutrients back into her, but she just continued to get worse. She couldn't even walk, poor thing. We had tickets to Monster Jam Saturday night so I sat with her for a long time before we left, just petting her and talking to her. My gut told me she would be gone when we got back and she was. I've been a mess the last 2 days and probably will be for some time. We were so blessed to have had her with us for 18 years, but it doesn't make it any easier. Buster (age 17) died in November, so poor Ellis has lost his big "brother" and "sister" in 3 short months. I know he's sad and confused right now, so he's obvioulsy getting extra cuddles. He's friends with one of our dogs, so he's been snuggling with him a bit. Once we've all grieved, I'll probably adopt an adult cat from a shelter so he can have a buddy again. Ugh, it's sooo hard to lose a fur kid.

Thanks, guys. Today was a bit easier - I just teared up rather than actually crying. I'm not a big cryer, so I'm about ready to drive myself crazy with all the crying I've been doing. Best to get it out, though.
Ellis has has always like to eat, but he's been going overboard since Crystal died. I've always let them free range, but will have to limit what I give him until he's ready to monitor himself again. He's already a big cat and certainly doesn't need to gain any more weight. I know he's missing his friends, too, poor guy.

I was worried about Ellis, so decided to start looking for cats to adopt so he could have a friend again. I wanted an orange shelter cat who was a bit older, since they have a harder time getting adopted. He also had to have the right personality - laid back and friendly, but also not so timid around dogs that he'd be too scared to swat at them if needed. Dallas and the surrounding areas have a ton of shelters and rescue groups, but there were actually only a few cats that seemed to be what I was looking for. I went to meet one this week and knew right away he was the one for us. It's a strange feeling to still be grieving for a pet you've lost, but also happy to give another a home. The cat I adopted is a 6 year old orange Tabby we named Kasey (after Kasey Kahne, my son's current favorite Nascar driver). He had been in a shelter in Oklahoma, but they ran out of room, so a shelter in the Dallas area took him in. He was so sweet and friendly, not to mention gorgeous, that they decided to take him to PetSmart to the adoption area in hopes he'd have a better chance of getting adopted. He's been moved around so many times, but he's settled in here pretty well. He and Ellis are getting to know each other without any major issues. I figured our corgi would be the one to chase him and I'd have to work with her, but it's or golden retriever who goes nuts every time he sees Kasey. That's going to take a bit of work, but he just wants to play with the cat. Kasey is very, very friendly and just loves people. Here are a few pics:

Kasey is quite the snuggler He's doesn't seem to like playing with toys - I'm not sure if he's never been exposed to them or just isn't quite ready to do that. He and Ellis are becoming more friendly. I actually saw Ellis race around the kitchen and then pounce on Kasey, which made me so happy! I'm making progress with Harley not trying to chase Kasey, so we're getting there.

You should send a pic to Kasey Kahne. He'd love it! He's on Twitter, if you have an account there. He'd probably put the picture on his dashboard!!! He looks like a really nice cat. So glad Ellis is warming to him so well. Everyone else will come around!

Our two kitties tolerate each other and have the occasional spat. The little girl to whom we are giving a place to sleep and food (we have called her Amy) is ignored by them most of the time. Truthfully, Felix is a little scared of her and Tilly has a swear if I am fussing Amy and not her LOL!!

Harley has a cyst on his back that was about the size of a thumb nail, so back in February I took him in to have it looked at. The vet biopsied it, said it wasn't cancerous and it didn't need to be removed. Harley didn't even know it was there until he discovered it about 2 weeks ago, so of course he's been licking it like crazy ever since. It started to get bigger and turn more red, so I took him back in. The vet said his licking has stimulated the blood flow, which is causing it to grow. Since he won't leave it alone, I decided to have it removed and made an appointment today. I called the vet yesterday to switch it to Monday because I've been sick and have D's birthday party this weekend and didn't want to add anything else to list until next week. Well, what did the crazy dog do today, the day he was supposed to have it removed??? He chewed the darn thing off!! If you knew my dog, you would know that is such a Harley thing to do. I called the vet to see if I needed to do anything and to see if I should cancel the appointment, but they said to still bring him in because it will grow back eventually.

Heh, they're no use, are they?! So what was the vet's verdict?
