I put together the new cage and it's huge!!! With the shelf underneath, the whole thing's taller than I am. Hub had a good laugh at that - wanted to know what exactly I planned to keep in it or maybe it could be a time-out spot for the kids. He was just kidding, of course! Sometime down the road, when the kids are much older, I'd like to have a pair of ferrets, so this cage would be perfect. Of course, after having rats in it, it will seem too small for ferrets, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. It will get a lot of use over the years, I'm sure. I waited to introduce Mocha to Bella and Rory until I had the cage put together, so I could put all 3 in at once and it would be new for all of them. There was a bit of establishing dominance, but not too much, and the girls all seem to get along well. I love the hinged doors on the front - very easy to clean the cage and to get the ratties out. i947.photobucket.com/albums/ad312/rfowler17/ratties/IMG_5247copy.jpg[/IMG]Harley's very serious about helping me fold the piggy laundry ;D

That's a great cage! Are all the levels accessible, or is it more than one cage. I saw a ramp, but wasn't sure if it went through.
Those are adorable rat faces, and Harley was adorable, too!!! Glad you have help with the piggy laundry. I miss my goose and bunny laundry helpers!

The cage is actually 2 separate pieces. You can buy the bottom or both pieces, which I did. There are 3 ramps (you can see 2 in the picture). The one you can't really see goes between the top and bottom parts of the cage. It can be hooked up, so that it will close off the top cage section, creating 2 separate cages, rather than one huge one. You could keep males in the top and females in the bottom, for instance. I think it will be helpful for cage cleaning, because I can put them in one section and close it off while I clean the other. This cage is called Critter Nation. It's similar to the Ferret Nation cage, but the bar spacing is smaller so rats, etc. can't escape. The Ferret Nation has a third level you can buy, but I don't think Critter Nation does because samller animals wouldn't need that much room.

Ellis, one of my cats, has to have his teeth cleaned tomorrow and I'm really nervous about the anesthesia. He's almost 13 and also has hyperthyroidism. The vet has reassured me more than once that he'll be fine, but I can't help but be nervous - he's my baby! Just the sweetest, most affectionate cat ever.

Ellis made it through just fine, but had to have 4 teeth pulled. I feel so bad for him! He's always had bad teeth, so I knew as he got older he'd probably have to lose some. He's still pretty doped up and has big saucer eyes, but ate some canned food, which he'll need to be on for a couple of days until his mouth isn't quite so sore. He has pain meds and an antibiotic, so I'm sure he'll be up to his old antics before long.

Aw, so glad Ellis came through it all okay. We had a similar situation with Dementacat. He was losing weight so we took him to the vet to find he had broken some teeth. Had to stop giving him the dry food and just go with canned. Hope Ellis is back to his old self soon!!!

I am so pleased love, the stress we mums are under when a little one has to have anything done. Please keep us posted as to how he gets on. I bet he has more treats than usual for being a brave little boy. My little kitties love tuna.

Crystal is our 18 year old cat and this morning I noticed that she can't lift her neck more than a bit; she's just sort of hanging her head, but there is some control still left. She can walk and has even gotten out of her bed to get a drink and eat a little food.
The 1st thing I thought was stroke, but that would affect more than her neck, so I don't know if she pulled a muscle or something like that. We're headed to the vet in a bit, so hopefully it's nothing serious. I'm really worried about her; it's hard when they get to be so old.

Crystal's doing okay, but she looks so miserable. The vet said it's similar to a pinched nerve or slipped disc. She has pain meds to take and the vet said to give her 1/2 a baby asprin to help with any swelling there might be.
A scary thing happened, though. As soon as I got home, I gave Bean her meds - the directions said 2 pills twice a day. The pills seemed awfully big for a cat, and they were hard to get in down her, especially since I was trying to be careful of her neck. Not 2 minutes after she'd taken them, the vet called and said she had Crystal's pills in her pocket and she was so sorry. There had been another Fowler in the waiting room and she had given me the wrong medication. Luckily, it was just an anitibiotic, but it was for a Lab, not a 4 lb iitty, bitty cat. The vet said they wouldn't hurt her and Crystal actually ended up throwing up. How stressful this day has been!

Wow, so sorry you had to go through that. Glad the big pill didn't hurt her any, and hope the lab got his/her pills as needed. When Dementacat started aging rapidly, as the aging process seems to accelerate toward the end, more and more things went wrong, he moved more and more slowly. He had some incontinence problems, could only manage canned food, etc. I just gave him as much attention as possible, and created a warm, snuggly place for him. I had a guinea pig hutch from the firt store bought cage, and I made a cushy bed in it with a heating pad on Low. He made it a week shy of his 20th birthday

Oh wow, I'm sure its sore for Crystal and it must be so worrying for you but it does at least sound like something which she can hopefully recover from. I hope you're all ok x
