So you all know about my guinea pigs. Because I forgot to add them my ferrets are holding my wallet hostage until I post about them. Here is Isis: She is a 3 year old, fix female who is very picky and loves to play in her water bowl (Kinda why I am thinking of changing it to a water bottle). Next we have Mr. Bean, also know as Beanie. He is a 2.5 year old fixed male who is a big mama suck. He us also deaf, but we still love him anyway. Here is their cage: Its a Ferret Nation cage I love making hammocks for them. They live in my room and no they don't stink

The Number one thing about ferrets is to make sure they are descented. Most will be if they are fixed as most vets will do it all at the same time. The other tricks to non smelly ferrets is clean their litter box and don't bath them more then 2 times a YEAR.
When you bath them more then that you strip them of their oils. These oils are what help make the scent of a ferret. When I got my ferrets I had spent months researching them and I knew that but I wanted to see if it was true... YUP it is! They are finally (after two months) going back to being not smelling. Oh, most people who don't clean their litter boxes are the ones that say they stink.
Lets put it this way, I have two ferrets which my in laws know nothing about. We have had ferrets since Nov. 2010. They have been over many times over the those months and they still do not know I own a ferret let alone two.
I clean my little box about every 2 to 4 days depending on how much poopies are there. Isis is very picky and once there is too many uses in her litter box she will poo outside of it, so I try to beat her to that point.

Wow, thats awesome, thanks! So to descent them, they need a vet trip? That sounds worth it... and they sound very similar to the pigs care-taking. I just love these guys... you have re-interested me in ferrets, hehe

They're beautiful!! Do they like to cause mischief and get into all sorts of things? I know ferrets are smart and like to explore.

They are so cute!!! I had heard that the stink, so was rather put off by that. Glad that's as much owner error as anything. You just had to test that bath theory, lol. I will definitely pass the info on to anyone I know with ferrets!!!

I will definitely pass the info on to anyone I know with ferrets!!! LOL Yes, like most myths about pets this one is human error. Let me know if they have any questions, I'd love to help. Gorgoeus i love their faces - just beyond cute. Mr Bean looks like a realy sweetheart. Thanks, he is very sweet. They're beautiful!! Do they like to cause mischief and get into all sorts of things? I know ferrets are smart and like to explore. OH gawd yes! Isis has a bag fixation, when out we have to make sure that all bags are put up. Beanie has his love affair with the mop bucket. Both love spilling drinks LOL. Wow, thats awesome, thanks! So to descent them, they need a vet trip? That sounds worth it... and they sound very similar to the pigs care-taking. I just love these guys... you have re-interested me in ferrets, hehe Most rescues will already do that if they aren't already done. Females MUST be spayed before their first heat. homepage.ntlworld.com/ferreter/neutering.htmThe pet stores here make sure both sexes are fixed and descented, so thats a plus. On top of that Ferrets, like cats and dogs, need to get shots. Rabies and a few others. But thankfully rabies is only once every 2 to 3 years. Also, it is highly suggested that you have $1000 in savings for an emergency vet visit. Ferrets get into lots of things and rubber bands are of huge interest for them. They will eat it and get very ill. Thus needing an emergency surgery. We don't have this but we do have a great credit card. If you have any questions let me know I love helping ;D

howdy cute fuzzbutts you have there i currently have 5 ferrets and have had ferrets since 1983 and only recently added piggies to the family i agree that ferrets don't smell like some people are lead to believe they do, and the ones that do are usually a result of both sing the wrong kinds of shampoos & a general lack of a properly cleaned environment. whereas you don't want to bath them to much in my personal experience more than twice a year is needed but not more than once every two weeks because of the oils mentioned in the earlier post. the best ferret shampoo Ive come across that not only doesn't strip their skin/coat of the needed oils but will add to them is Four Paws Ferret Glow followed as a close second by FerretSheen both are pretty inexpensive (both of which are under $10) as you would for piggies or any other small fuzzy loved on make sure to "Ferret Proof" your home/rooms they are gonna be in because if they can fit their ears through they can squeeze their bodies through. anything you think they might be able to get hurt by put away wether you think the can get to it or not cause these lil carpet sharks can climb a lot better than most would think. we've got one named Butters that if we don't watch her when shes out she will climb to the top of the curtains and since ferrets don't have depth perception will have no problem trying to jump back down!! if anyone does get a ferret as a pet that is not already fixed or neutered its best that you do get them fixed. the main reason is that when a Jill goes into heat her privates swell and if not bred within a certain time (and sometimes even if she does get bred) can get a infection that could easily cost her her life and in some cases the breeding act itself can lead to injury or death I love my lil piggies but my Woozles will always keep a special place in my family

I have the ferret sheen one, It came with Isis from her old owner. I also have a "conditioner" spray but I use it on their bedding LOL. I know odd but it smells so I spray their bedding and it rubs off on them.
Coldfire, I know what you mean about the special place.

I had 2 ferrets. They were both girls. One died, we still don't know why (I think she got into something.....she wasn't eating as much the day she died). The other died a few days later of depression....we think....unless she also got into something.
My dad was allergic...so he said 'no more after they pass'.
**Also...from what I experienced...if you don't use the right litter...the poop smells real bad.
Your ferrets are really cute!!! They make me want ferrets again. (I already have the Ferret Nation) Haha. We'll see....haha.

LOL Yes Ferret Poo stinks something bad. But with the wood stove pellets, this kitty litter deodorizer stuff that I add to it when I clean it, and cleaning it every 3 or so days. I am able to sleep right next to them, they are in my bedroom.
I've been busy sewing up new hammocks, cage liners and other interesting things for them, as well as the pigs LOL.

Isis, oh sweet Isis! "Hmmpf... what?"Umm Some of my friends would like to visit with you. "And?"Well they want to see you. "So? I'm sleeping go bug Beanie! *Grumbles*"*Sigh* Beanie, oh Beanie... Awww "Zzzz... Zzzz."Shhh... lets leave him sleeping. The cuddle cup was made by me for my pigs. I wanted to see if the ferrets would use one if I made them their own. Guess who needs to make some now. I also made a new cage liner. Its reversible, the other side is in the fleece fabric that you see in the pocket opening. I added the pocket in hopes of discouraging the ferrets from going under it. So far its worked. I attach it on the corners of the bottom of the cage. As some of you know I'll be getting a new sewing machine so I hope to have some new creations for you to see soon.

Love the pics and the cage liner. I never thought about incorporating the hiding place into the cage liner. I hope it works. Seems like a great idea!!!
They really are super cute, much cuter than I ever thought ferrets to be. Yep, they all control our wallets, lol!!!

They do, and apparently so does another ferret mama I know. She requested me to make some for her, (4 in fact) so I'm busy sewing away to make some for her. My first order for my sewing. Shes ordered a double FN cage set (two of them) and 4 cuddle cups for her pigs. Its a huge order and my first one so I'm super excited. Shes picking it all up on Tuesday!
