Much better picture of the Pizzagaina. Yes, it's like a busy quiche. It's supposed to be made much thicker, so cutting a slice would fill a typical sandwich. I don't have space in my fridge for that, so made a deep dish pie. I have s lot of the filling left, so I'm going to try cooking it some other ways, bite/mini muffins, and maybe hand pies. Pizzagaina bites. They're in the freezer for an hour. Then I'll bag the and keep them frozen. I skipped the pie crust this time. Life isn't long enough to cut 48 all those little circles of crust for each bite.

Okay, Baz, I totally envy you being able to eat like a 20 year old. I can't even eat like a 50 year old anymore lol 🍽 It's going to be difficult for me to adjust again when or if I switch jobs again- for all the pain and aggravation I'm going through the benefits of eating whatever I like are hard to give up. I'm going to enjoy this as long as I can.

Is it the types of food rather than the quantity that you're appreciating being able to go wild on?
What type of pie crust did you use for the big pie, 3piggles? I was just wondering if you made one with almond flour or something, so keep the GI rating down. The mini ones will be great to have in the freezer for lunches and snacks, it's a meal that will keep on giving!

I used store-bought pie crust, so typical white flour. I have since gotten recipes for Cassava flour, almond flour, spelt flour and soy flour pastas, and was going to look for other recipes, especially things like pie crusts and pizza doughs, using those flours. I think the big difference in the flours is the toothsomeness. Pastas and doughs have a certain tooth using white and semolina flours. The chickpea and lentil pastas all worked, but didn't have the right tooth. I'm willing to experiment making pasta with the other flowers, and even breads, cookies, cakes, etc.

Is it the types of food rather than the quantity that you're appreciating being able to go wild on? Oh, both- really. I can eat lots of stuff that I should realistically take in small quantities (like pizza or hamburgers) because I'm going to burn off those calories the very next day! Also, with no opportunity to eat lunch at work, that means I have to eat more to make up for the deficit when I get home- although as soon as I get home, I eat an apple and an orange to get back water first. Usually I have an hour or so before dinner, so my appetite isn't spoiled.

If only there were some way to get the benefits of all that exercise, without doing all that exercise I couldn't possibly do your job, but I do love to eat junk, a bit too much. My weight is holding, with me exercise regimen, but I'm not losing anymore. I really need to eat a whole lot less junk, and TV time at night is my downfall.

My weight is holding, with me exercise regimen, but I'm not losing anymore. I really need to eat a whole lot less junk, and TV time at night is my downfall. My mother mentioned my younger brother's sister-in-law lost 80 pounds with something called the Noom diet. Not sure how it works, since I don't need to lose weight. On a side note, I mentioned it to my wife and she immediately dismissed it without bothering to try it, which is typical for her. (I don't care if she wants to lose weight, but she constantly complains about it, which is why I mentioned it to her.) I wonder how I'll adapt if I get to the point of not working at UPS anymore. I've been considering options, one of which would be to skip lunch. I really don't mind being lighter right now, but having to work out at least five hours a day is simply unrealistic once I'm employed elsewhere. I imagine a smaller dinner, with my regular exercise routine with no lunch might do it. But I'll really concentrate on that once I actually come to that bridge.

I bet half the reason you're so hungry is because your body's working so hard anyway - there'll probably be some element of the quantity you actually want tapering off as your energy demands fall. The ice cream parties might take a little will power though!
Are you generally happy with your weight as it is now, 3piggles, or are you keen to lose a significant amount more? You're certainly so much more active and healthier than before you started, and will definitely have gained a lot of muscle. Whatever you want to do next, you should continue to feel proud of what you've achieved.

I'm not satisfied with my weight, but I'm not upset that I haven't lost more. I am physically much better than I was when I started, and am able to do things I haven't been able to do in since the early for 20 years. I'm also very aware of how much more easily I swim now, than when I started at the Y. Back then, I swim to the other end of the pool, and have to rest and catch my breath. Now I can do all 30 laps without stopping. My eating habits are, in general, much better, and while I would like to lose more weight, I finally ordered some new jeans for the 60 pounds I've lost. I'll enjoy them for a while, assuming they fit. I don't have much luck with online clothes shopping. Keep your fingers crossed.
I think Bean is right about a change in the demands on your body fueling your ability to cut back on your food intake. You're also physically exhausted, now, and your body is not just accepting more food, but demanding it. If your body doesn't require as much fuel, you won't feel compelled to fuel it.
I've found we can continue to eat just about anything, as long as we eat less of it.

I remember trying to eat a little less last year (or maybe the year before) in the evenings and ending up being hungry around bedtime. I figure if that happens again, I'll see about increasing the portion just a little more without overindulging. Right now it doesn't matter. On a related note regarding food, my father made cheesecake for Easter, and it has always been a favorite of mine. I was able to take home a few slices, and no one else in the house seems to enjoy it as much as I do, so I'm getting a rich dessert for the next few days!

Oh that's a bonus - enjoy! I don't have much of a sweet tooth but enjoy a bit of cheesecake now and then. All the desserts I enjoy tend to be creamy ones (creme brulee and panna cotta are my favourites).
It's wonderful you are feeling so much better, 3piggles. Fingers crossed the new jeans fit!

Remember that always hungry feeling? That's when your metabolism was messed up. You had lots of stored fuel but the body couldn't see it. By changing your eating habits, you've reset your metabolism and your body isn't demanding fuel every few hours. You can go for a long time without reaching for the snack tin. 👍

I can definitely go much longer without a snack. I also try to make my snacks count. I have a sweet tooth, especially for chocolate, and often over indulge. It's a matter of willpower, which can be in short supply, sometimes I've been over indulging, lately, and it's beating me up, so my willpower is getting a whole lot stronger

Might as well revel in the freedom of eating whatever I want while I can- the latest dessert is salted caramel ice cream with tiny chocolate truffles here and there in the mix. Yes, it's as delicious as it sounds.

It does sound good! I still haven't finished my one small Easter egg yet though, so won't be lining up at your door with my bowl yet!

I didn't get an easter egg or bunny this year. Hubby forgot, so I don't get to brag about my will power in not just snarfing down the whole thing in one bite, lol If he gets me milk chocolate, I can take forever to eat it, because it's so sweet. Dark chocolate is another story, and a cream filled egg is a goner Enjoy, Baz. You never know. UPS might get themselves sorted, and make the job decent, again! Can't always hope

Some friends were raving about this series of recipe books, so I borrowed a couple from the library and will be trying a couple of recipes this week. There seems to be heavy use of aubergines, sweet potato and squash, all of which I love, but that don't all go down too well with all the others.... So I might have to try a few for some sociable lunches!

Cool! If you substitute veggies they also like, of the same texture, the recipe should still work.

I'm pretty decent at making minor swaps, I have to change something in most recipes I try whether it's onions, meat or aubergines! But there were some dishes I liked the look of, that if I swapped out everything people wouldn't be keen on, I'd have a completely different dish! Not to worry, I have some friends who are only too happy to join me when I'm making stuff that won't be appreciated in-house, and I enjoy eating those meals more with people who will also tuck in rather than eyeing the dish suspiciously!
There's a coffee and Baileys cake in one that I will simply have to try.

The coffee and Baileys cake was really nice when I made it, but the day after the taste of Baileys was gone and it was underwhelming. I could always make extra icing to add on as I serve it (there was Baileys in the cake and then more in the icing), but for how little I eat it, there are other cakes I like more, so I probably won't bother.
We had a couple of curries that were really good (one dahl, one with spicy roasted veg) and a couple of roasted gnocchi dishes that were really tasty. One was with peppers, tomatoes, herbs, chilli and ricotta, the other was with root veg and pesto. I made quite a few swaps with those so haven't copied the recipes, but they will definitely inspire some new meals. There was a pasta bake that was pretty good too, although we'll make a few more tweaks to suit our tastes. So it's been a nice little experiment to mix up our meals a bit, and I've still got a few bookmarks sticking out for other things I want to try.
