Oooh they sound really good, I will definitely give them a try! I'd make them now if I had any chocolate in, but it's not something that lasts very long in this house...
Nice to see you btw Mweekie - how's tricks?

Ooh, those brownies sound fabulous!!! I used to make mine from scratch, and make a huge batch. Haven't done that for a long time!

Haven't made any tray bakes for a while - those brownie's have put me in the mood for baking some.
Kids came home with a note from school to say our PTA wants to produce a cookbook for Christmas - all families have been asked to submit a recipe (original to avoid any copyright issues) so trying to think what to do.

Sorry Treen, I'm bad Chocolate and Banana Cake (from Nigella's Domestic Goddess, the 'variation' at the bottom of the Banana Bread page) 150g plain flour 25g cocoa powder 2 tsps baking powder 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda 1/2 tsp salt 125g butter, melted 150g sugar 2 large eggs 4 small very ripe bananas (about 300g without skin), mashed 100g dark chocolate, chopped into small chunks (or chocolate chips) 1 tsp vanilla extract (although I don't put this in as I never have any) Preheat oven to 170 degrees C/gas mark 3. Put flour, cocoa, baking powder, bicarb and salt in a medium bowl and mix well. In a large bowl, mix melted butter and sugar and beat until blended. Beat in eggs one at a time then bananas. Stir in chocolate. Add flour mixture, a third at a time, stirring well after each. Scrape into a lined loaf tin and bake in the middle of the oven for 1 to 1 and a quarter hours. Skewer-test to see if it's done. Cool on a rack in its tin.

Oooh thanks for posting it, it sounds lovely! I shall print it off and try my best to keep 3 bananas away from the kids for long enough for them to become very ripe!

So, footie friends, particularly American ones - got a recipe for a nice looking cake which uses all purpose flour. Is that plain flour in UK speak?
Also got a couple of recipes using ground almonds. I seriously don't like almonds. Anyone know a conversion for ordinary flour?

Oooh I love ground almonds in cakes! Especially as I have to make mine wheat-free and ground almonds really help keep it moist. Feel free to post those recipes, won't you!
Bad luck with the banana-eating husband, Laurie! I bought a ridiculous amount of bananas when I went shopping on Friday, so I feel quite confident I will get to make the cake in a few days.

It was very nice (the recipe and the smell of it cooking...) - think I would use milk chocolate instead of plain if I made it again as it was rather rich and I prefer the sweetness of milk chocolate. (Plus I would also check I had eggs before making it as, unusually, I only had one egg in so had to nip out to buy more halfway through the mix!) I made that yesterday - it was really nice (I was very dubious about the coke). I still prefer my gran's ham recipe but it made a nice change. Mweekie's brownies are next on my list (if I can manage not to eat all the chocolate before I get round to it!).

Dawn’s Chocolate Brownie Recipe. Ingredients: 300g Milk chocolate (chopped) 125g Plain flour (sifted) 230g Granulated sugar 175g Butter (plus extra for greasing the tray) 2 Eggs 40g Cocoa Powder Method: 1. Preheat oven to 160*c. Cover a baking tray with foil and butter thoroughly spread on the foil. 2. Put 200g of the chocolate and the butter into a glass (pyrex) bowl and melt over a saucepan of boiling water (no more than 1/3 full) and stir until the chocolate has completely melted. Once melted, take chocolate/butter mixture off the heat and set aside to cool slightly. 3. Beat the eggs and the sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. 4. Sift the flour and cocoa powder into the egg/sugar mixture and gently fold mixture together until flour and cocoa powder have been completely blended in. 5. Fold in the chocolate/butter mixture into the mixture and then add the rest of the chopped up milk chocolate. 6. Pour brownie mixture onto the pre-greased baking tray, making sure the mixture is spread evenly as possible in the corners. 7. Place in middle of the pre-heated oven for about 30 minutes, or until top has gone crackly and middle is soft and gooey. Can heartily recommend this recipe - deeelicious! I had a feeling they would be tasty as me and the kids were making them - basically adding butter and sugar to loads of chocolate with a bit of egg and flour thrown in! We had them warm from the oven with double cream - it made a lovely pudding and I expect they will still be very tasty once cooled (I'll find ouit later, I'm sure...) - thanks Mweekie!

I've made some double chocolate shortbreads this morning - pure decadence (how much butter?!) but fabulous! www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1272633/double-chocolate-shortbreadsGlad you liked the choc/banana cake 3piggles! That's what I love about recipes - you can mess about with them a bit to make them just how you like them
