Have you tried it without the red chilis? I only ask because it's not something I normally have on hand, and doubt I would use again if there's any left over. Oh yes, I didn't have any dried red chillis in either so just used (a slightly smaller amount of) chilli powder instead. I always seem to be missing an ingredient or two, but there's usually something similar around! dd - if you've got a favourite chocolate cake recipe, please post it for us!

I think I'll try that - I'm sure I've heard of the coke thing before but never tried it! Does it have any similarities in taste to my gran's ham recipe as a few of the ingrediemts are the same?

I think I might have posted the chocolate and banana cake recipe before - I'll have a rummage when I get and check, and if not then I'll post it.
I got a veg box which was meant for someone else at the weekend and they weren't able to collect and redeliver it, so I got to keep it. This now means I'm overrun with potatoes! And I've already filled all my little plastic boxes for the freezer with other stuff. So, any bright ideas for potato recipes which I can freeze but don't need boxes?

Oooh nice one with the free veg box! I'd probably make up a batch of rosti and stick them in the freezer to reheat in the oven - simple to make and very tasty. And how about rustling up some bombay potatoes (you can serve them with cheese?!) - think that should freeze okay, and you can freeze it in bags!

You can bury them in a box of sand in a cool dry place, and use it like a root cellar. The potatoes should keep as long as you need them to. Carrots and other roots/tubers, too.
Pureed potato is sometimes used as a stew/chowder thickener. That might use some. I make a baked casserole of sausages, potatoes, onions and bell peppers which is easy and really good. Again, you'll have a lot leftover, so more in the fridge or freezer!
A quick add-in: We did a roasting chicken in the slow cooker the past weekend. We brined it in a mix of water, salt and sugar for a day, then marinated it in a store-bought balsamic vinaigrette for 4 days, flipping it over daily. Roasted on low for about 5-6 hours, until the meat started to pull away from the leg bones and the juices ran clear. It was fabulous. Tasty and moist, and incredibly easy to make.

The chicken sounds lovely, Laurie - I don't think I'm ever organised enough to put that much preparation in to a meal though - I'd probably forget about it halfway through the week! Our latest, and so far the best, beef chuck roast marinated in store bought light balsamic vinaigrette for a week, slow cooked, and to die for. The long marinating is the key to getting the flavor all the way through, and tenderizing the meat. Hub has decided it's his new favorite.
I think I will do it again for Thanksgiving or Christmas, as daughter tried it and loved it, too. I added a bit of the vinaigrette to the mushroom gravy, too.

My friend has a really good chocolate brownie recipe...which of course I have tried and tested and my own friends love it when I bake them. Dawn’s Chocolate Brownie Recipe. Ingredients: 300g Milk chocolate (chopped) 125g Plain flour (sifted) 230g Granulated sugar 175g Butter (plus extra for greasing the tray) 2 Eggs 40g Cocoa Powder Method: 1. Preheat oven to 160*c. Cover a baking tray with foil and butter thoroughly spread on the foil. 2. Put 200g of the chocolate and the butter into a glass (pyrex) bowl and melt over a saucepan of boiling water (no more than 1/3 full) and stir until the chocolate has completely melted. Once melted, take chocolate/butter mixture off the heat and set aside to cool slightly. 3. Beat the eggs and the sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. 4. Sift the flour and cocoa powder into the egg/sugar mixture and gently fold mixture together until flour and cocoa powder have been completely blended in. 5. Fold in the chocolate/butter mixture into the mixture and then add the rest of the chopped up milk chocolate. 6. Pour brownie mixture onto the pre-greased baking tray, making sure the mixture is spread evenly as possible in the corners. 7. Place in middle of the pre-heated oven for about 30 minutes, or until top has gone crackly and middle is soft and gooey. Other variations: White chocolate (don’t add cocoa powder and cook for a little while longer). Add 50g cherries and/or 50g walnuts to the mixture instead of the extra chopped chocolate. Add ½ teaspoon of cinnamon or all spice powder for an extra festive feel at Christmas. Enjoy x
