Oooh I like your strawberry planter! That'd solve my problem of big fat birds and squirrels nicking mine! You had quite the jungle of veg last year, didn't you - more space for you and hub this year!

Lovely! I have wild strawberries loose in the garden, but all the wildlife seems to get to fruit long before me!!!

I posted one pic last year of hub sort of lost in the foliage! Yes, it was an incredible garden for a back porch. Nothing like that this year, but the planters are still doing a great job!

We're getting some strawberries now - apparently they're delicious but I haven't managed to get to them before the kids yet!
Overall we're not getting nearly as good crops of anything fruit and veg-wise as last year - last month was just too cool to get everything going, but we can always hope that sun is on the way....

Strawberries are ripening here but they are so tiny.

Growing your own strawberries must be lovely. We buy a punnet for the little ones and if we are lucky we may get a few, but I have to say that the last punnet bought, the strawberries were tiny, but tasted wonderful.

The strawberries are good, but we haven't gotten very many. Most seem to be shriveling and dying??? Not sure if we need to turn the planter around regularly, or what we're doing wrong. At least it did produce after over-wintering in the cold basement, so we did that part right!!!
We're also starting to get cherry tomatoes, though so far not enough to do anything but eat as a snack. Works for me!

Cherry tomatoes - lovely!
Just picked my first courgette (that's zucchini for you funny Americans!) and lots more are coming along - with all the rain we've had, I think they're one thing that will do well as they seem more bothered about getting loads of water than they are about full sun!

I ate my forst home grown yellow cherry tomato yesterday! Got a few others starting to turn colour and some chillies coming along nicely. I have a fancy squash plant, grown little flat yellow ones, think its called sunburst or similar - they're starting to grow and have big flowers on. Big brother butternut is taking his time setting fruit but looking promising.
Got the veg box this morning - baby beets with their tops and a couple of tiny fennel bulbs with loads of fronds on - plenty treats for the pigs there!

Ooh, sounds great!! Piggies love the fronds. Give big brother butternut some time. It's more a fall veggie than a summer one!
You're growing chili's! Cool! We debated on the yellow cherries, and might do both, next summer.
Our strawberry went by for this year, but the cherry tomatoes are ripening by the handful! I love to snack on them, so I just leave them on the kitchen counter and pick at them!

I've been gorging on beets, patty pan squash, baby carrots and zucchini now for a few weeks. I grill them all in a pan on the barbeque with a little olive oil and seasoning. I can't get enough! I don't have a garden myself, but I get a big bag of local veggies delivered to work once a week. They're just fabulous!

Runner beans and French beans have finally come in to their own - getting lots in the freezer as well as to eat. And my courgettes have gone bananas - I've only got two plants, but we're eating loads and giving loads away, but I still constantly have half a fridgeful! My mangetout have finished now, but the tomatoes are kicking off.

We have a last hurrah strawberry! Just one, almost ripe, on the almost dormant plant. Getting to the end of the cherry tomatoes, too. No longer getting handfuls each day, just a few. Seems the start of the new school year tends to herald the end of the summer bounty. Next year hope to have more tomato plants, if we can!
I remember the years our garden was coming in so fast, I was canning, freezing, cooking and still giving away as much as possible. Hub would take bags of veggies to work daily, for people without gardens. We used to share with the neighbors, until the year we all got so much, we couldn't give it away! Not up to that kind of gardening or preserving anymore, but it was so much fun, and so rewarding, when I could do it!

This is my piggie garden... I am waiting on hubby to set up my larger vege garden for us... It's the first day of spring here in the land down under! So the perfect time to start! I have parsley and mint and basil and lettuce and strawberries and wheatgrass ready now... And I just planted a capsicum (bell pepper) and a cherry tomato as well! After a few stressful and yucky years I have rediscovered my love for ferreting in the garden and also my love of piggies! I am the happiest I have been in a long time! Yay for the love of piggies! Heheh

Haha yes... I sometimes take them for a wander and set them in the pot to have a wee nibble before bed... Separately of course... Ulyssis goes straight for the mint! Wayne has a weakness for mummy's fresh parsley... This is our new human vege garden! Though I snuck in a cucumber plant for the piggies... I have a broccoli, button squash, zucchini, snow peas and some Dutch carrots! Does anyone use their piggy poops as mulch? I have been collecting a bag of their poops and hay mess and now I'm wondering if it would be any good for the garden? What are your thoughts?

I used to compost mine - I wouldn't use it before it had been rotted down but it balanced out all the veg peelings etc in my compost bin perfectly! It's good when two things you love doing (gardening and piggies) can work so well together!
3piggles, it is so nice to be able to share the fruits of your labour isn't it. I'm not so great with the preserving side of it all - I can just about manage to stew and freeze fruit for winter crumbles though.
I'm still drowning in courgettes here - anyone want some?!
