Threepiggles I was just saying to hubby this morning that I should try stuffing the zucchini flowers! They are a bit bigger and more tube like! I saw a recipe for a minced beef and veggie stuffing for them where you bake it. Does anyone know the cure for squishy strawberries? Mine have nice flavor but the flesh is kind of mushy... I am about 0-15 in the orchid stakes so don't feel too bad! Hehe I've tried love I've tried neglect I've tried it all! And have lost them all after just one season!

Very green, Jo! One fell off and another couple were very loose, so with the nights getting so cold, I've brought them in and have put them on a sunny windowledge in the hope they will ripen slightly!
My son grew parsnips this year and they look like they have grown well - I understand I have to wait for the frost to kill off the leaves and when they die back the parsnips will be ready - nice and sweet.

I am not very imaginative with squash recipes! I prefer to just steam them with some zucchini and pop a wee dot of butter over them! Mmmmmm My cucumbers have started fruiting now! They look like the tiny cocktail ones you buy pickled in the jars... It's terrible once the fruit shows! It's like an agonizing wait until you can harvest it! I have been waiting for my capsicums for weeks!!!!

Ha ha Treen, perhaps that is what they are waiting for, to be brought inside LOL!! I really hope they do ripen for you, I love tomatoes and if I were able, they would be one of the things I would grow. I also love parsnips with a roast or in stews, unfortunatley Paul realy dislikes them.

I used to can mine, as we had them ripening by the bushel after a while. I did stewed tomatoes, whole tomatoes, etc. Put them up in jars and used them for sauces all winter.
One reason I like cherry tomatoes is so I can eat them as snacks. I just picked them off the plants all summer, and ate them. Rarely had enough left to make a salad!

Great idea to bottle them for sauces etc - my crop this year was too poor to do that though, think I might get a couple of inches at the bottom of one jar at best!
Have your cucumbers ripened yet, monkeyandchimp?

Bottling sounds like hard work! haha I may google bottling for dummies... My cucumbers most certainly did ripen! I only got four really good sized ones! There are some more babies coming through now. But my gosh they were good! So tasty I just popped them on a cracker with a little salt and pepper! YUM! Also have been snacking on my sugar snap peas! They have been quite accommodating and there are just enough for a snack ready every couple of days! I'm pleased! We had a run of lovely humid days last week (lovely for the garden not so much for us) so everything has had a burst of growth! My capsicums have finally started to turn red too! I never thought they would! Am wondering if because they took so long the flavour will be a little bitter? Fingers crossed!

Gosh that all sounds very nice! Where are you? I'm quite envious of this weather you're having and am quite sure you're not in England! It's just cold and damp here now...

I'm in Australia! So we are having summer now! It's going to be a scorcher by all accounts... Today we got up to 36 Celsius. The puppies and I were huddled under the air conditioning and the piggies were pancaking over their ice bricks... We were all wishing we could join the turtles in their tanks! But the vegetables and herbs are most pleased with the weather!

Your garden sounds wonderful love, I would lpve to grow the things you are producing. Over here though, a heated green house is usually required for many things as we all know about English weather.

Australia, aaah it all makes sense now! 36 degrees - that's pretty warm! Glad you managed to keep the furries cool - it's a shame it's not so easy to do for people!
My tomatoes finally turned red anyway and they were very nice - my meagre crop only lasted a couple of days though!

Whoo hoo! At least the few you got we're tasty!!! Yes Jo I am beyond pleased on the success of my veges! I have never tried it before, except for herbs and they never lasted very long! It must've the country air and my new attitude to life or something! I have become quite nurturing... Maybe I'm just getting old... heheh My cherry tomatoes are about to be ripe! Looks like ill have a constant supply for a few weeks at least! I have loaded my Dad up with zucchini and squash, there was a burst of ripe ones and I could not have consumed them all myself!

Not a bad crop for your first year - I'm impressed! It's so nice to be able to share your produce with family and friends too - I bet your dad is a happy man!

It's almost nicer to give them away than eat them myself I must say! Kind of Like Christmas when it's always more fun watching others open their gifts!

We are totally at the other end of our growing season here in New England. Temps down in the 20s F for the next several nights. Should take the hardy Fall plants. Days are getting short, so we aren't going to cover the plants and try to save them. We'll put them out for the animals, and start again in the spring. Time for the bird and suet feeders to go up for the winter.
I am so glad you are having a great time with your veggie garden. I love gardening, and love giving fresh veggies to friends and neighbors. The one thing I miss about having my own yard!
