Ha ha, we will be a couple of moaning minnies together Piggles love lol! Yes I agree, early in the morning is the best time to get things done when you have a heatwave. I have to rest between jobs so if I do not get up early (not known for doing that ha ha!) I just keep resting in between and I have my fan on full blast.
Yes hun, you can eat snackie bits during summer and even I, who loves food, lose my appetite when it is really hot, all I really want is fluids. You can eat lots of various salads and fish and tend to leave the more stodgy dinners until winter. Of course there are the lovely summer fruits too like strawberries and peaches. They will be out soon and the little ones love them.

See, there are actually a lot of things you like about summer. Just focus on those things, and not on the sad things.
I managed to cut up a strawberry for my smoothie, without the girls getting all excited, but not the kiwi. They were practically climbing out to get their pieces. They don't get very big pieces. Just enough to have a treat.
The ham came out great, so we have a whole lot of cold ham to eat. I have so many options for cold meals, I haven't decided which one to use tonight.
Temp is already at 81 degrees F, when it was only supposed to reach 77F. Tomorrow was supposed to be the hot day, over 80F, so I'm totally not looking forward to that. I planned to get out to walk around 11:30 a.m., when it was supposed to be about 70F, but the temps warmed up so fast, I closed up the house and turned on all the fans I have. Trying not to use the a/c so early in the year, as it's really expensive.
I am going to make Jello, as I have some Cool Whip, so we can have some cold desserts and snacks that don't have many calories. Even ice cream can get a bit heavy for me, when it's hot. So far, I'm managing to keep the house at 65/66F, which even in summer clothes is making me perspire. Definitely cold foods today and tomorrow!

Apparently the strawberries are in the shops here but you can literally count them and they are about £3 a punnet. I am glad your ham turned out well hunni but I knew it would. A nice piece of ham is really hard to beat as long as it isn't fatty, you know me and fat on meat lol! Jelly (Jello) is a favourite here in summer and for kiddies' parties. Paul loves it with ice cream.

You would have trouble in the states calling Jello jelly, as jelly is something else over here. Jelly is jam or preserves that have been strained so there's no obvious fruit or veg in them. Jello is actually a brand name, so the end product, regarless of who makes it, is now called Jello. Same as all tissues for blowing noses being called Kleanex, although Kleanex is only one brand. I also had to look up punnet. Cool word, but again, not used in the US. It's apparently a 19th century English word stemming from shortening the word pound to pun. Sorry, my family had been here for a really long time by them, so didn't bring that word with them They brought a lot of others, though We watched another episode of Vera last night, and enjoyed it more this time. We didn't get all of the words, but we got a lot more, so kept up with the story line a lot more easily. The first episode had a lot of lower income characters in it, and I think their dialect was stronger and harder to understand. Last nights episode had a lot of white collar characters in it, so while they did use colloquialisms, we understood most of it. I do like that who dunnit is not obvious by half way through the show. I have to wait until the end to know for sure. I was wrong with the first episode, and right with last nights. I like having to pay attention to all the clues, and sorting out which ones mean something. Strawberries are on sale in most supermarkets right now, but we have to be really careful, as some stores put fruits and veggies on sales because the fruits and veggies are almost at their end. We buy them, get them home, and they all rot in a couple of days. If we get a good sale, strawberries are usually about $2/pound. All other berries are really expensive, so I use those in moderation. I love how the nutrition sites say to eat a cup of blueberries, blackberries or raspberries daily. Have they priced a cup of those berries lately? Found Kiwis at Walmart for a whole lot less. The Walmart nearest to us has a great produce department. I think hubby is more attracted to them than to the regular supermarkets with limited selections and higher prices.

Thanks for that piggles love, you learn something new every day. I find it really interesting when we have different words for things. Punnet is just a small square box which holds the strawberries. I have never thought about its origins but it is only used as far as I am aware, for a box of strawbs.

We're always keeping an eye out for things we can all watch as a family - something appropriate for them that we won't be bored by! We're currently working our way through Malcolm in the Middle - I love it just as much now as I did when it was on tv and the kids think it's hilarious (hope they're not getting too many ideas on pranks to play!). It's great to see Bryan Cranston in such a goofy role again, after having accepted him as the meth king in Breaking Bad - he's such an ace actor!

I have never watched Malcolm in the middle hunni but I have heard other people say how good it is. I am looking forward to Jamestown and at the moment I am enjoying Hawaii Five-O.

Ooh, is Jamestown an historical version or a modern day version? We have a running fued with Virginia over who has been here the longest, and we'll vote for Plymouth, while Virginians insist it's Jamestown We're almost finished with this season of Hawaii 5-0, and will be going into the summer shows soon. Not sure what's going to be worth watching. We moved the TV antenna around, which was hubby walking around the outside with the antenna on a pole, and found that we can get 18 channels with the antenna outside. Not bad, even if 6 of them of Spanish language channels, and at least 3 are shopping channels. I'll stick to Overstock.com. They're great, so I don't watch shopping channels. Now we have to figure out how to hook up the antenna. We can run the wire down through the floor, but are not sure how to get it out. There's a whole lot of insulation and a cover over it, under the house, and we're not sure how to drill through that. So hubby will have to talk to our neighbor about it, as they've lived here a lot longer than we have, and should know those things. It does seem as if, with the antenna, Sling TV, Acorn TV and basic cable, we should have more than enough viewing choices, even if not in the way we're used to. It just gets a bit confusing switching between all the options, but I'll get used to it, I just have to do it enough to remember how.

By the clothes love I would say the old fashioned version. I am not sure what season of Hawaii Five-O I am watching but I know there are a lot I haven't seen. Hope your antenna was sorted out.

Now that you mention it, I remember Jamestown, vaguely. Isn't is a miniseries? I know it was on across from something else we watched, and then it was over. I hope it's good, though it seems the true story is rarely told. I think it would be exciting enough, but producers don't seem to agree.
Our neighbor came over today, and we totally forget to ask him about the running the antenna cable through the bottom of the house. Go figure!

I think it is Piggles love. It is about an place where men have been without women for 12 years and then a boat load of them arrive, from what I can make out. Well you can just imagine. They behave like monsters.

I wonder which Jamestown that's supposed to be? Jamestown II, maybe? Let me know if it's Jamestown I or II.

It doesn't say love, I will have to Google it and find out. It just advertises Jamestown.

We saw the new Alien film - Alien Covenant. It was quite entertaining, but a bit of a dragged out build up at the start, and nowhere close to the power or atmosphere of the original. They've upped the special effects and gore, but I get far more apprehensive and unsettled when I'm not really sure what's going on rather than it being in my face!
There were some interesting elements to the story of the aliens, but I'm sure part of me not finding this one as compelling as the original is that I'm not really following the whole story arc of all the Alien films - I only really remember the first one, I'm not really building up a sequence of 'Aha!' moments as a proper fan would. But still, it was a couple of hours of decent jumpy entertainment!
I don't think we've watched much else recently - aside from Malcolm in the Middle (on series 3 now) which is still keeping us all amused.

I will look out for that Bean hun as I love alien films. I am thoroughly enjoying Jamestown and Grantchester. It is a pity Harlots has finished, I thought it was great. Is anyone watching Versaille?

I've not heard of it - I haven't seen any of those shows you mentioned, we just don't have the tv on enough (it's usually DVDs or iPlayer) to notice when things are on so miss loads of good stuff!
We watched a bit of Jaws last night before we went to bed - there aren't many films I know well enough to be happy to dip in and watch a bit (I prefer to watch the whole thing or none of it) but Jaws is a classic! Such a great film, but I had a couple of odd dreams last night and that's probably why!

I love the film Jaws Bean hun, I love the music when sharky is approaching and everyone is oblivious. It made me laugh when someone in the film said that when there are lots of people splashing about it is like ringing the dinner gong for him lol!

I'm waiting for the new season of Grantchester to start. I enjoyed their crime solving exploits Haven't seen Jamestown or Harlots, though we haven't been on AcornTV for a while. Vera apparently ended on PBS. We have one episode recorded, so we will watch that. The Coroner is still airing, which we greatly enjoy. PBS has gone into its latest round of fund raising, when they show the same old shows they always show, as if we're still interested in seeing those for the 400th time, and airing those will get us to donate. We have to wait until their latest fundraiser is over, to see what shows will be aired. Our network shows have ended their Fall season, and the summer shows haven't started yet. We know what a couple of them will be, and they have promise. We like science fiction, and there are some promising new shows in that genre. Wynona Earp is returning to the Syfy channel. That premise is that Wyatt Earp was a demon hunter, and his specially made gun was really made to kill demons. Now it's passed down to his some number of greats granddaughter, Wynona, who is carrying on his work. Doc Holiday is back from what is probably Hell, and seems to be working both sides. It has promise, and doesn't take itself very seriously.

Such a great film, but I had a couple of odd dreams last night and that's probably why! I showed Vicki the movie Jaws a few months back- she was slowly easing herself into horror movies, and I figure she could handle that one. (She did very well.) That's about as strong as I will let her watch at this point; I would like her to see the movie Aliens (she's a Sigourney Weaver fan because of Ghostbusters) but she should see the original first... but I watched it recently to see if it was too strong, and I think it is far too much for her to handle right now. A few more years, at least. (It is rated R for a reason!)

Glad Vicki enjoyed Jaws! Getting it right in terms of what your kid's ready for is so important. One of my son's friends (who's quite anxious) watched Jaws aged 9 and was pretty freaked out by it! I think my son would enjoy it now, but my daughter would be a bit unsettled!
Flicking over after the news yesterday, we caught a bit of a film called Sharknado. I'd never heard of it before but my husband had and said it was an intentionally terrible film. I can do bad films that are funny or cheesy etc, but this was just awful - I couldn't find a redeeming quality about it, except for that it prompted me to go to bed early!
