I am glad you find the heating pads helpful Piggles love, I must admit I have never tried them. I know all about some days being better than others, sometimes I can barely walk at all and others days it is not too bad. I think it depends how I have slept, if I have slept badly then I tend to be in more pain. That sounds wonderful, I think I should try that when I have bathed, sounds lovely and cosy lol!!

Weather changed in my favor, and I'm back on my feet. I had a miserably painful 3 days, but it's finally behind me. I got out for my walk today, which was really nice. More rain in this week, but hopefully not with such radical changes in barometric pressure. I hope Cadders is doing better, and he'll get completely better

Thanks. The meds took have taken a few days to kick back in properly (I assume it's a cumulative effect where there's inflammation to calm down) but I'm quite happy he's happy and comfortable.
Glad the weather has changed in your favour.

That's great news about Cadders. I hope he won't have to stay on a maintenance dose, but even if he does, at least you know he can be pain free enough to get about and be happy

Just an update on Cadders as he was back at the vets this week. The meds had kicked back in again and they're happy he's comfortable and generally well (his weight's stable etc). There was still slight inflammation in one of his legs (not the one he had the original problem with), so it is looking more like arthritis or something like that, although there's still the chance it's a more troublesome soft tissue injury.
I've got more anti-inflammatories for him and we're to continue on that for a while and then if he's had a longer period of seeming really well with no inflammation, try tapering it down very gradually so check he still needs it and if he's on the optimal dose. He's not on the full dose he can have, so it's great to know that if he does get worse in the future, we can tweak it that way too. She seemed to think that x-rays would be best left for if he wasn't doing as well, and that for now, this is working. I'm quite happy with that - no stress of anaesthetic for him and no hole in my pocket!
As he's taking his meds so well now, we can just offer him the syringe while he's pottering around. But Pops has started thinking she's missing out on something and keeps trying to get to it before him so he's getting a bit possessive and almost tugging it out of our hands! Not sure if he likes it or if he just knows it helps, as he didn't seem to like it too much at first.

I used to have that problem with the Bactrim, which all the pigs love. Whichever one wasn't getting it thought they were missing something They would pull the syringe out of another pigs mouth to get they're share I'm glad his doing well on the meds, and I agree with the vet that the x-rays probably won't show much, especially if it's a soft tissue problem. I can attest to the fact that there is no specific age when the old body starts having problems, so hopefully you'll be able to keep him on a minimal dose, if the problem doesn't clear up.

Just a quick update - Cads went back to looking totally fine again with his legs, so we gradually tapered down his meds every few days while looking out for any signs of a relapse. He's had no medicine for over a week now and seems completely fine, so although it may still be some long term joint condition which flares up now and then, for now he seems completely fine which is great!

Thanks, and yes, I still have some meds left so I can be right on it if there's any hint of a relapse.

I'm very happy for you, Bean! (especially since I'm so used to my piggies never recovering; it's great to hear they can bounce back.)

The pigs had their first outing on the lawn yesterday, just a shortish one to get their tums used to the grass (while I was cleaning out their cages), but they enjoyed it! It works well for me when they can spend the days outside too - less cleaning out to do and my lawn gets mown and fertilised for free! No photos this time but will get some next time!

Oh I wish! It takes me about an hour to mow which I quite enjoy enjoy normally, but not with a slightly dodgy back. I wish they'd take it down to the soil for me! Maybe I should get a goat?!

You need a tribe of piggies for that, Bean Glad they got out to graze. I'm hoping to get enough grass in at least some part of the lawn to get my girls out this year, but we'll see. Yes, a dodgy back makes it really hard to mow the lawn. Seems that back has been dodgy for a while now, and that means ride-on lawn mower
