I solved the long commutes with books on tape, sermons or great music that I can sing along too...speaking of which, I am so animated when I sing, makes me wonder if people see me from their cars and think, "that lady is crazy" hehehe
When I've visited Chicago and New York, the public transportation was amazing (especially in Chicago). Then I think about where I live and think that it just wouldn't work that well here. We do have a bus system, but we also have a lot of rain. I just can't imagine having to walk in the rain or grocery shop that way unless income demanded it. I mean, if it where raining, I'd be a mess by the time I arrived at my destination.
My sister-in-law is from Switzerland. I have often wanted to visit there after hearing about it and seeing the pictures. They moved to Wyoming as it has the beauty that reminded them of Switzerland.

We have inner city buses and buses to Boston, all a drive from me. We have to gp into Massachusetts to get a train to Boston, and into Boston to get a train to any other place. New England states have no public transportation between cities and towns. Didn't when I lived in NY state, either. Most of Nre Hampshire is also very rural, so no going anywhere without a car. We used to have an extensive rail system. Every toen had a depot. But the advent of cars and the national highway system killed it. Any recent attempts to restart it meet with endless delays and budget discussions.

I don't blame her Bean love I should cover my ears when hubby gets stuck behind a caravan or similar. I don't though, I just get cross with him, it is a nightmare.

Daughter takes after hubby in that regard. I'm much more reserved in what I'll actually say out loud, but that doesn't stilop me from thinking a blue streak

Ha! It's funny to see the direction in which this thread has gone!
I'm married to a US Marine so he's got a very colorful vocabulary at times!

Silamb we don't really look at it as a sacrifice, its just our way of life! He has less than 3 years left. Life will be very different without the Marine Corps.

We know we want to open our own homebrew supply store but we will also have to have other jobs until the store gets off the ground. There are a lot of civilian positions avaliable working along side the USMC doing just about the same thing he does now. So thats an option. We have a little while yet before we need to start thinking seriously about our life after the USMC.

Interesting that you haven't looked for part time work at a similar store or microbrewery. Most places probably don't want another full time employee, but someone to cover lunch breaks and such might be just the ticket!

Most places probably don't want another full time employee, but someone to cover lunch breaks and such might be just the ticket! Most Microbreweries here are only open a few hours each evening, besides their product is below standards IMHO. I don't think I could sell a product that I didn't like. There are 2 small Homebrew Supply Stores here. They are ran by Owner and Wife. They are both too small for extra help. It was actually the first place that I looked for work, thinking that it would be great to learn a few things before we ventured out on our own.

How long had you been brewing for before you started making stuff you thought was *really* good, or did it happen almost straight away?

We have a friend who makes wine, same home brew idea. The wines aren't bad at all. Not much of a beer drinker, so haven't availed myself of any microbrews. We keep talking about it, but haven't visited any of them.
