I really hope your tummy settles down soon, so you can at least enjoy some meals again. It must be hard to have those aromas around you, and not have the tummy to enjoy the food. Do you still have a meal out planned for next week? If so, I really hope your tummy is totally better by then. Bean, it seems as if Scotland has had a large enough percentage of the population that wants independence, that it's going to stay an issue. If being part of a productive UK/EU kept the independence referendums from passing before, knowing all they will lose by having the UK leave the EU might be all that's needed to push the independence referendum through. Depending on how quickly and how well Britain makes the change from EU to non-EU, I can't help but wonder if this is going to be an excuse for Wales to pull out of the UK, too. Would Northern Ireland leave the UK, if they could? Not trying to commandeer your thread, Jo

It's OK Piggles hunni It is feeling better thank you and we are planning a lunch out next week. We are going to look at the Motability Cars for next year at Audi and will have something on the way back. I am being very careful what I eat between now and then as I don't want to spoil it. Hugs JO xx

Cool program! I never heard of motability, so I googled it. I hope you find something you can use to help you get around much more easily. Definitely let us know how the search and the meal went

It is a great system Piggles love. As I am on the higher rate disability I have to sacrifice one part of my grant to the motability scheme and we get a new car every three years. There is usually something to put down but if the car goes back in good condition, you get it refunded. Up until now we have always had Focuses. I would like a BMW but you have to put about £3,000 down. We are not sure about Audis yet but it isn't as nearly as much as for the BM's. Anyway, we shall see on Thursday. We will probably end up having a Focus again lol! Some are a nil down payment but that is for the very basic models.

Audis and BMWs are way out of my price range, but Focuses are definitely in my price range. How did you like the Focus. Was it reliable? We want something that is going to run for the next 10+ years without a whole lot of service needs. We won't be driving it around the country, but I really want something comfortable and reliable. American cars don't usually qualify for either of those categories, unless we get the really expensive ones, and they only qualify in the comfort category. I hope you are feeling a whole lot better

They are out of ours now Piggles hun although we used to have a BMW which has spoilt me really for any other car. It was a dream. We have had Focuses for the past 10 years or so and I have to say they are very reliable. We are only looking into the possibility of having an Audi but if the down payment is too much it won't be happening. Going to see a friend on Thursday now anyway so the trip to the Audi garage is on hold until the following week. Please tell me about your cars Piggles love. I know the Lincoln Continental used to be expensive but I am not sure if they still make them. I loved the ones of the 50's and 60's with the huge wings on the back. I remember seeing a beautiful pink cadillac which Buddy Holly drove I believe.

Glad you are feeling better Jo, and hope you get on well looking at cars. An Audi would be snazzy! The Focus is a nice reliable car though, if you do have to pay down a bit too much to get the Audi. It's good to look and see what's out there - hope you don't end up falling for one that's out of budget!
As for the independence - as you know, the Scottish referendum debate has come up again because they voted to stay in the EU, and now the UK is leaving the EU, it might be people vote to stay part of Europe and dump us instead.
I don't hear as much serious talk about Wales wanting independence from the UK, and they (like England) voted to leave the EU, so are presumably happy on that front (well 52.5 of them anyway!). It's a beautiful country but has much higher rates of poverty in many areas, so benefits from being part of a team. They stand to lose loads of EU subsidies that benefit them and help tourism. It seems like although there are some people who want independence, most are happy with just gaining more powers to govern themselves, which is happening, slowly.
Northern Ireland voted to stay in the EU, and of course their position is confused by the fact Ireland (Eire) will still be in the EU. Maybe this will help toward reuniting the country? Again, I haven't heard loads about that - I bet everyone's looking to see what happens with Scotland as they're the big player most likely to make it on their own, and if they go, I think others will look to see if their countries want to follow.
All I know for sure is that we've got a short break in Europe planned, the the exchange rate is ruddy awful because of all the uncertainty. When we went away last year, we were getting 1.5 EURO to the £, now it's barely 1. Gah!

I think the economic issues are going to outweigh just about all of the others. Our retirement fund is down, thanks to the upcoming election. Question is will it improve if Trump is elected? It definitely will improve if Clinton is elected, though if we get another democrat president, and a republican congress, we'll have another 8 years of stalemates. Politics! Yours or ours, they're not doing us any good. I hope the exchange rate doesn't put too big a damper in your vacation plans in Europe, Bean. I had wondered if Northern Ireland would reunite with the south. It will be interesting to follow. Daughter has had a couple of Audis, and while nice, they are awfully pricey. She bought both of hers used, actually very used, yet the Jeep she bought has had many more problems than the Audi. We just want reliability, and to not use up more than our car fund allows. We only get one chance to get a good car, so I'm gathering as much info as possible. Sorry the Audi outing had to be postponed, Jo I hope you still get to eat out The Lincoln Continental is still made, as are several other brands of Lincoln. They are all still pricey, as is the whole Cadillac series, and still prone to problems. It costs much more to repair them than to repair a regularly Ford or General motors car, so while very comfy, we'll pass. We have a lot of the same cars you have, from the Land Rovers and Mercedes, to the Fords, but you have slightly different Fords than we have. We also have a lot of Asian cars available, from Toyota to Hyundai to Kia, etc. Hyundai and Kia are two of the best buys(most included for the money), and the Kia Sorento rated very highly in reliability as well as value, in Consumer Report, so we're thinking about one of those. I also really like the Kia Soul, but I think it's meant for the younger people, so I don't know if comfort is much of a consideration. www.motortrend.com/cars/kia/We also have a lot of trucks over here, 4x4s of every size and power. We've discussed it, but unless we bought a really used one, I don't think it makes much sense to get another truck. I love them, but I don't think I can get in and out of one very easily any longer, so it's probably less expensive to have items delivered, than to have a truck we can use. I think it will only be a few years of getting this house the way we want it, and we can always get a small utility trailer and have a trailer hitch put on whatever vehicle we buy, so we can transport bushes and things.

Thank you ladies. It was my only chance to see my friend so the lunch can wait until the next week or week after, depending on finances. Yes Piggles love, I remember hearing that Cadillacs are also expensive but I had the impression that the Lincolns were the top cars. Knowing me Bean hunni falling for an expensive one is exactly what I will do lol Hugs Jo xx

Hope you have fun with your friend, Jo - the restaurant will still be open next week! I hope the exchange rate doesn't put too big a damper in your vacation plans in Europe, Bean. Definitely not - we've got the money now so will forget what it cost! We just switched power companies and got a refund from a credit balance from the last one, so that will bridge the gap!

Ooh, excellent! I'm glad you got a windfall from the old utility company. Also glad the change in the exchange rate won't put a damper on your trip. I hope you have a really safe trip when you go. Jo, sometimes lunch is even better when you get to anticipate it longer. You'll get there. I hope you have a great visit with your friend

There has been a change of plan, we are going out to lunch with our friend so that is really great. I just hope I don't get sick or a desperate urge to go to the loo. It is hard to look forward to anything when this is always a distinct possibility. Here's hoping.

It was really nice, Piggles love and I really enjoyed my meal. The trouble is I had to go twice before setting of for home but luckily I was alright for the journey. When I reached home though it was a different story. I wonder what is causing this whenever I go out. I also managed to knock a drink all over the place, can't take me anywhere lol!

Thank you Bean hunni, it was lovely despite a couple of the problems we had. I had a lovely meal of sirloin steak, chips, onions and mushrooms and it was only £8. This goes to show that the other places we have visited have definitely been on the expensive side. Mind you this was Devon and not Cornwall, I think they tend to be a bit cheaper.

Lots of food for a very reasonable price! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Definitely a place you can afford to go to again I think, when we know we tend to have problems, we stress over having those problems, and the stress makes the problems worse. I also think we have some instinctive triggers that can work against us sometimes. I know I've gone to the bathroom when it wasn't an emergency, only to suddenly really have to go, just because I was there? I always try to go as much as possible before I go out, and I still have to use the restrooms in the store. Hubby does, too. We think that's mostly an age issue. We're just not as young as we used to be. I was dropping or knocking over everything, yesterday. Vic kept asking me if I were okay, I was dropping so many things. I've never had great eye-hand coordination, but I'm not usually that bad. In restaurants, I always moved the drinks away from my hands, so I didn't knock over any glasses I was a real menace to wine glasses

Thank you Piggles hunni, it was really nice. Some people may have complained about the portion sizes but for me they were just enough. Yes you are right, I would love to know what triggers these naughty tummy problems I have. I can eat and drink at home and be fine. The drink I have is pineapple and lemonade so that can't be it; it is just a mystery but it happens every time. You are right, I think something triggers it but I don't know what and the annoying thing is I feel fine before I leave the house. If ever I feel slightly off, I just wouldn't go. Paul says I am clumsy, calls me a clumsy-clutz whatever that is, nice isn't it? Hugs Jo xx

I doubt you're clumsy at all I have terrible eye-hand coordination. Too bad we never did a home movie of me trying to play tennis. I have hole in the racket syndrome, otherwise known as not even getting close to the ball. I always thought I was right on it, too, but nope. So my hands/arms often don't go exactly where I think they're going to go. I really do move the water/liquids glasses farther away, so they are out of my way on the table, and I don't knock them over as often. Vic even moves things I'm about to knock over, so I don't cause any casualties Also, my back problems often make it hard to put my feet exactly where I thought they were going to go, either. Again, not clumsy, just have conditions that make it hard to always be exact. You are far from the only one, and you need to stop beating on yourself about it.
