Oh that confused me, I've only just got onto the 28th of Feb here! Still, good to see you back on the case!
The Beast from the East has taken a bit of a tighter hold of us now, so I've got one kid on his way back from school as they decided to close it 15 minute before it was due to open... The other one still has to go into their school (which is much closer) so is grumpy about missing out on snow fun. My husband managed to get to work before the snow started coming down heavily, but is now wondering if he'll be able to make it home.
We're so bad at coping with snow in this country!

I keep thinking today was the first too hunni. We are due snow here, it is freezing cold and they say we will have some by 11 o'clock. I hope you are alright Bean sweetie, just stay nice and warm. True, we get a smattering of snow and there is panic. I wonder what these countries think who have to cope with it all the time.

We've had a snowball fight and been sledging. It was fun although the snow is too powdery for snowman building. We came back in before we got too cold as we'll probably be doing a second run when my daughter gets back from school. I feel sorry for her missing out!
I suppose if you have snow all the time, then it's worth investing in the equipment, supplies and staff to keep the roads clear. It happens so rarely here that having everything on standby each winter would probably be a huge waste of money!

We apparently have a dreadful storm heading our way and it is going t be here by 11 this morning Bean sweetie, I feel so sorry for people in other parts of the country who are experiencing real difficulties because of it. I quite agree, we just don't have it often enough to invest in certain things.

Hope you stay warm and safe in the storm, Jo. It's brutal out there, especially for those who are more vulnerable.
I'm glad to see my older neighbours are staying inside and warm. I was so sad to hear that a lady in her 70s was found dead on the street this morning. Nothing suspicious, they think she just got very cold and confused, and couldn't make it back to her house.
The kids are all enjoying it though. Most of the local schools have remained closed, so the parks have been full of sledges!

I am fine thank you Bean hunni and I am glad you are alright too. Well, I spoke too soon. Everything is at a standstill here. Paul has walked to Morrisons where there is hardly anything on the shelves. I am so sorry to hear about the lady bless her, I hope this isn't what we have to look forward to. Yes, there have been happy kiddies playing aru8nd here and I can imagine there are many sleighs in the parks.

Glad you are staying warm, and hope you have enough food left to see you through until the supermarkets can get deliveries again.
We were due a supermarket delivery shop today, but I was prepared for it to not come, so I picked up a couple of things while we were out yesterday. It's a good job as the supermarket the deliveries are done from (which is based in an out of town store) is completely shut at the moment as staff can't get in. Because all the snow's been compacted, it's much harder to get about safely today, so I'm glad I don't have to go out. Hopefully the weekend will see everything clearing up.
Glad the local kids are enjoying the snow. My kids have had two days of sledging but have opted to stay home as the snow's more like ice now and we've had really bad winds which have made it feel much colder and more horrid!

Thank you Bean hunni, it is easing up now. Paul managed to go to the supermarket in the car but the shelves were empty. I was hoping for a nice roast beef dinner tomorrow - teach me to be greedy lol! It is lovely to see the kiddies enjoy themselves but it hasn't lasted very long for them. When I was a kiddie, the deeper the snow the better, of course, we don't think of practicalities at that age.

Oh I think a roast meal sounds perfect after a cold, grim week - not greedy at all! I hope you can have it later in the week.
Things are due to improve here from lunchtime. At the moment it's freezing, foggy and the surfaces are all covered with thick ice.

Paul went again to Morrisons Bean sweetie and the situation hasn't changed. They are having problems up the line and of course, fruit and veg has not been able to be farmed because it is all frozen. Never mind, we have enough in, we will just have to make do. We are still very lucky having food at all, I always think that when situations like this arise in the UK. We will enjoy our roast beef next week, it is something to look forward to. Today it will be sausages and roast potatoes which is absolutely delicious.

I'm glad you still have some food in to see you through until the delivery trucks can make it down to you. Sausages and roast potatoes sound great in the meantime!
I've just had my regular supermarket delivery (the vans couldn't get out last week - not that the staff could get to work to even have a go!) so it's back to normal here!
I was just reading about how thousands of homes in London have been affected by issues with the water supply, so have had no water, and many supermarket shelves are bare of bottled water too. It just makes you realise how close we are to things grinding to a halt when our usual conveniences don't run smoothly.

Thank you Bean sweetie, Paul has just come back and apparently, the shelves are restocked so we will be having ur roast beef dinner tomorrow. I said to Paul, you wait, when you go in the morning all the beef will be gone LOL! He would have bought it today but we are lacking in funds.
I feel that the people who are going short of something as basic as water in the UK must have a taste of what it is like for these countries who have to go without constantly. I feel so sorry for them. I drink a lot of water so I don't know what I would be doing now. This is why I try not to take these things for granted Bean hunni but I know how easy it is to do so.

Although I think it's good to generally be appreciative of the good things we have in our lives, I don't think we all have time to appreciate every minute detail of how convenient our lives are - we've made everything far too complicated! Times like this do make you appreciate things that you'd usually take for granted a lot more though.
The water board are apparently working hard to fix the burst water mains which have caused the disruption in supply for so many. I hope they're all sorted out soon - they're giving out bottled water but it's the toilets I worry about ha!

I think it went off just as everything had thawed, but it's a plan! I was thinking people with water butts in their garden would be better off.
My in-laws had severe flooding in their area a few years back and the water went off for a few days. But because they have a basement and that was a few feet deep in water, they were able to get buckets of water from there for the loo (and share with their neighbours). Not exactly lucky given how much stuff was destroyed, but it meant one other aspect of the situation wasn't so bad.

You are right Bean love, we are spoilt and forget it all too often.
Good idea Shades hunni, I don't know if anyone actually did it.
I think any relief in a situation like that is really appreciated Bean sweetie but I feel so sorry for people when their homes are ruined. It must be devastating.

I know what you mean, although if people and pets were all safe, I'd definitely be very grateful for that. In the areas which are frequently flooded, it's really hard or prohibitive expensive to get insurance, so I can only imagine how gutting it must be to lose it all and not even be able to replace everything you've so hard worked for.
Does anyone want to come and help me clean my house, change the pets and do all my washing this morning? I was supposed to be going out doing something more entertaining, but plans have changed and I decided to make use of the time to get my house in order, but am already bored!

So would I Bean hunni. I have always wanted a house overlooking the sea but I know insurance would be a problem and the cost would probably go through the roof (literally), that is if they will insure you at all.
Oh, sweetie, what were you supposed to be doing that was so much better than housework (mind you, most things are aren't they?) I am sorry you were disappointed.

It was a shopping trip with my mum (more window shopping than buying anything!), so would have been much more fun, but we'll do it another time and my house is very grateful for the attention! I've now got a plumber round fixing a few bits and pieces we've been putting off getting sorted for a while, so a productive day! And a child-free evening tonight, so woo hoo to that!
